Katrina Baur, mother of Elijah Vue, releases 1st statement following her son's death

Katrina Baur, the mother of Elijah Vue, has released a statement through her attorney regarding her son's death, saying she is "devastated."

"Katrina Baur is devastated by the most recent news, identifying the remains found as Elijah," Baur's lawyer, Amber R. Gratz, told NBC 26's Preston Stober via email. "She had continued to have hope that her little boy would be found alive. At this time, she is mourning the loss of her son.
I’m shaking my head in disbelief. Where did she think he was? I’d like to see her crying. I want to see if they are crocodile tears or not.

Virtual candlelight vigil being held for Two Rivers' Elijah Vue after remains were found

A virtual candlelight vigil is planned for Elijah Vue, the 2-year-old boy that went missing from Manitowoc County in February.

On Friday, September 27 from 6-10 p.m., people can light a candle or a blue light to honor Elijah. People can also share pictures and their location for others to see.

Police express sadness but relief as investigation in Elijah Vue case continues
Nearly three weeks after Elijah Vue's remains were identified, the investigation into what happened to the toddler is moving forward.

"This is not the outcome that we hoped for," Two Rivers Police Chief Ben Meinnert said on Sept. 13. "The family is devastated, we're devastated, our community is devastated."

The announcement ended a lengthy and emotional search for the boy by the community that continues to remember him and the law enforcement agency that continues to investigate his death.

"I would say on a whole, the department, there's a sense of sadness but relief," Capt. Andrew Raatz told FOX 11's Emily Matesic on Thursday. "It's obviously not the outcome we wanted, but it does bring closure to finally finding Elijah and now just comes the part of talking about what happened and proving what happened."

Police wouldn't speak specifically about the ongoing investigation, but they did say they are determined to get justice for Elijah Vue.

"We already had an investigation we were working on based on the evidence we had," Raatz said. "So, obviously I can't speak to what this is; those details will be coming eventually. But yes, the investigation has been ongoing since. We've been collecting evidence, building the case, along those lines. You'll -- I'm not saying any more about that part."

Investigators are working daily on the case.

And they continue to partner with local, state and federal agencies, too.

Much like the public had helped search for Elijah Vue since February, police continue to encourage anyone with information on the case to speak up.

"If something were to come up, someone remembers something, someone sees something on a video, by all means bring it forward," Raatz said.

Baur has a status conference set for Oct. 22. The status of Jesse Vang's case will be reviewed again on Nov. 6.

CNN —
The mother of Wisconsin toddler Elijah Vue and her boyfriend face charges in the death of the boy who had gone missing for nearly seven months before his remains were discovered in early September, court records show.

The toddler’s remains were found on private property just over 3 miles northwest of where he was originally reported missing, as CNN previously reported.

Elijah’s caretaker at the time of his disappearance, Jesse Vang, the boyfriend of the boy’s mother, is facing charges of physical abuse of a child, repeated acts causing death; hiding a corpse; and obstructing an officer, court records show.

The 3-year-old’s mother, Katrina Baur, is facing charges of chronic neglect of a child, consequence is death; child neglect; and two counts of obstructing an officer, the court records show.

Vang and Baur had previously pleaded not guilty to felony child neglect and other charges stemming from alleged incidents before the toddler’s disappearance, court records show.

CNN has reached out to attorneys for Vang and Baur for comment regarding the new charges.

Vang’s cash bond was set Friday at $500,000 at his initial court appearance; Baur’s cash bond was set at $400,000. They remained in custody, according to online court records.

“Our priority has always been to ensure a fair and just process, and today’s announcement is a reflection of our commitment to upholding the law and seeking justice for Elijah,” Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacqueline Labrie said Thursday in a news conference announcing the charges.

Elijah would have celebrated his 4th birthday in August, according to the Two Rivers Police Department.

Vang, who reported the boy missing on February 20, told police he noticed Elijah was missing when he woke up from a nap at his home, according to the criminal complaint filed in Manitowoc County.

A hunter discovered Elijah’s remains in the woods on September 7, according to police.

Katrina Baur, Jesse Vang appear in court on new charges related to Elijah Vue’s death

Katrina B. Baur, mother to 3-year-old Elijah Vue, and Jesse Vang had their initial appearances Monday on new charges they were responsible for Elijah's death and hiding his body.

Baur was represented by attorney Amber Gratz and waived her right to a preliminary hearing. Her next court date is an arraignment Oct. 30.

Vang was represented temporarily by attorney Luke Harrison, but still awaits a public defender to be appointed to his case. His next court date is a preliminary hearing Oct. 24.

Both cases are being prosecuted by District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre and are presided over by Branch 4 Circuit Court Judge Anthony Lambrecht.

Baur and Vang were previously charged with child neglect in connection with Elijah's disappearance in February. Those charges were dismissed Monday before their court appearances.

According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement found a suitcase that Vang donated to St. Vincent de Paul on Feb. 19 that had Elijah's DNA in it. They also found Elijah's blanket in a wooded area near Johnston Drive and Goodwin Road near Two Rivers just a few days after Elijah was reported missing.

The complaint also stated Elijah's remains showed evidence of traumatic injuries to the head that had partially healed and had happened at least several weeks before Elijah died.

The Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner's Office determined Elijah's cause of death was "homicide by unspecified means," the complaint said.

Not going to read the link as I doubt it's in there anyhow but why again did they dismiss the neglect charges on both? Sure a big difference than just reading on Bigsby where they are now going after lesser charges after he gets 45 years, they aren't DROPPING them, just the opposite and KUDOS to those prosecutors.

Poor little guy! Sounds like he had a horrible short life.

Elijah Vue death: Mother pleads not guilty to charges

The mother of Elijah Vue, the 3-year-old boy whose skeletal remains were found months after he went missing, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to the charges she faces in Manitowoc County court.

Katina Baur, 31, is accused of two felonies, including chronic neglect of a child – consequence is death, and two misdemeanors in the case. Court records show she remains jailed on $400,000 bond.

Baur's boyfriend, 39-year-old Jesse Vang, is also charged in the case with physical abuse of a child, hiding a corpse and resisting/obstructing an officer. He is due in court on Nov. 6 and remains jailed on $500,000 bond.

A criminal complaint said, the night before Vue disappeared in February, Vang told investigators he was watching a movie at home. However, investigators recovered surveillance video from that night that showed Vang dropping off a suitcase near St. Vincent de Paul and then driving off around Manitowoc County. Detectives found DNA inside that suitcase that they say belonged to Vue.

Police said they recovered deleted Facebook messages that Baur sent Vang on Feb. 20 – the day Vue went missing – telling him to "say you guys were taking a nap and he left" and adding "the way you word things is very important."

Jesse Vang, charged in the death of 3-year-old Elijah Vue, has been bound over for trial

Jesse Vang, a 40-year-old Two Rivers man, has been bound over for trial on charges of causing a child's death through abuse and hiding the body.

Vang appeared at Manitowoc County Courthouse Nov. 6 for a preliminary hearing. He is accused of causing the death of 3-year-old Elijah Vue, whose remains were found in September after he was reported missing from a Two Rivers apartment Feb. 20.

After hearing testimony about the investigation process from the two witnesses, Judge Anthony Lambrecht ruled there was enough cause to move forward with the felony charges of physical abuse of a child causing death and hiding a corpse against Vang. The preliminary hearing is just one step in the court case, though, and Vang is still considered innocent until proven guilty.

Vang is being represented by attorneys Jeffrey Jensen and Joel Mogren. His next court date is an arraignment at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 18.

Ibegoodboy. Heartbreaking.

Manitowoc County prosecutor lays out evidence in Jesse Vang case

New information about the prosecution’s case against Jesse Vang in Manitowoc County. He’s the man accused of abusing 3-year-old Elijah Vue causing his death and disposing of his body.

In court this week prosecutors gave more information about a span of 5 days that they say is critical to this case.

Special Agent Justen Ragen with the State’s Division of Criminal Investigation took the stand during Jesse Vang’s contested preliminary hearing on Wednesday. Ragen responded to Two Rivers on February 20, for the Amber Alert.

Since that day, he says his team has worked backward, trying to determine when the last time 3-year-old Elijah Vue was seen in public.

It is believed these could be the last photos of Elijah Vue from an auto body shop on Friday, February 16. Early in the investigation, we saw this vehicle, a 1997, beige four-door Nissan Altima. Posted on social media police looking for surveillance video of it.

Special Agent Justen Ragen says Vang borrowed the vehicle from another person on February 19, one day before reporting Elijah missing from his apartment on Mishicot Road.

According to Ragen, Vang received the keys on February 19 between 2 and 3 p.m. Ragen says cell phone data helped investigators narrow down a time frame Vang’s cellphone showed no messaging activity for about an hour on February 19 at Vang’s apartment, it’s something investigators thought was abnormal.

With that time frame in mind, authorities set out to find video evidence of the Nissan Altima, with Vang driving. Investigators recovered a video they believe shows Vang returning from an area off of Kristy Bob Lane in Two Rivers, where Elijah Vue’s remains were found.

At 6:21 p.m. security footage from a business on Johnston Street captured the Nissan Ultima. 20 minutes later, the Ultima was viewed on Highway 310.

At 6:44 p.m., the Ultima is seen heading toward the city of Two Rivers on Hawthorne Avenue.

At 7:05 p.m., the Ultima is seen entering the parking lot of St. Vincent de Paul, investigators say Vang gets out and leaves a suitcase at the door. Investigators retrieved that black suitcase, saying crime lab testing revealed a positive DNA hit for Elijah Vue.

When Vue’s remains were found on Kristy Bob Lane authorities noticed an unusual gravel-sand-like substance.

Investigators connected that to the person who loaned the vehicle to Vang. The vehicle contained buckets of sand to use at Vang’s apartment complex during winter months.

In the hours before that vehicle movement on February 19, investigators found Vang’s Google Maps activity to be suspicious. The special agent said there was Google recorded information that was zoomed in, off of Kristy Bob Lane, very near where the remains were recovered.

The morning of February 20, Vang called the police to report Elijah Vue missing.

In court, the special agent said they were able to drive the route. They believe Vang took to dispose of Elijah Vue’s body, within an hour.

Vang is back in court in about 10 days.

Not sure of the time frame but searches were going on hours away from this area which never made sense to me. Ever.

Ibegoodboy. Ibegoodboy. He was THREE YOU SICK SOB. Three years OLD!

Two Rivers honors late Elijah Vue with toy drive for local kids in need
The Two Rivers community is honoring a child who died this year with a toy drive.

Members of the community are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys as part of the Operation Elijah Toy Drive.

Toys can be dropped off at the Two Rivers Police Department at 1717 E. Park Street by Dec. 15. The drive is also accepting cash or check donations.

We are part of Toys for Tots and our huge box was overflowing today. It had to be emptied to make room before they came and picked up. People are feeling generous and positive I think.

We also have added a huge food box, forget who sponsors that, but we did not have it last year, added just recently for food donations. Didn't get a chance to check that but sure we will see the same.

Last year I recall plenty of donations to the toy thing but never did I see the box overflowing like today. And not just cheap sh*t either, some very NICE gifts.

Anyhow, it warmed my heart.

RIP Elijah. So very unfair.
