Do we have a Jefferey Epstein thread?

It takes two to have a conspiracy but they do not have to be tried together so you have lost me. Epstein is dead, she can thank him for that but honestly, she is probably in better shape than if he were alive as I have little doubt a jury would have found her co-conspirator guilty. She is facing five years on any conspiracy count not some life sentence.

Epstein's deal was in Florida and was not a federal charge nor was it for conspiracy. Or do I have that wrong? One can't compare them as it isn't the same thing at all or even close to the same thing. In my opinion.
Do we know who the victims were in Florida? Two of the three victims in this case are from Florida also. Just wondering if they are the same. Only Annie is not from Florida and there is doubt about her because of the NM age of consent being 16 and because Epstein paid for her flight.

The case in Florida did not include Ghislaine Maxwell nor was there any conspiracy charges in the State of Florida case.

In 2007, Epstein was accused of recruiting dozens of girls, some as young as 13, for massages and sex at his mansion in Palm Beach, Fla. Under the terms of the 2008 deal, Epstein pleaded guilty to two counts of solicitation of prostitution (one with a minor under age 18) and was required to register as a sex offender. He was given immunity from federal prosecution, served 13 months in county jail and was allowed to spend his days on work release at his Palm Beach office.

That Florida case was the same time period though. I didn't know he was given federal immunity. So why wasn't Maxwell also given immunity if she was his co-conspirator? This really sounds dodgy.

The handling of Epstein's case was dodgy AF completely.

Maxwell wasn't included in the charges in 2008 so there was no conspiracy element. The immunity was negotiated by Alex Acosta & Epstein's legal team.

By 2008 Maxwell had left Epstein, so I guess it depends on who the victims were and when it actually occurred, if that is known. Did anyone on here follow the trial?

From the link, it was the same time frame as some of these Maxwell charges.

"Beginning in at least 2002 and continuing until 2005, Epstein is alleged to have abused dozens of victims by causing them to engage in sex acts with him at his mansion in New York and at his estate in Palm Beach, Florida."

There was no trial in 2008 because Epstein signed a plea agreement.

Looks like Maxwell will be spending Christmas in jail. Jury want to break for four days. It's going to be hard for them to not discuss this with anyone over Christmas. I don't think Judge Nathan should have made that their choice but should have stipulated they come in tomorrow if they have not come to a verdict yet. What do you all think? Time to get tough with the jury or let them have a 4 day break while the accused goes back to jail for Christmas. Personally I think they should sit tomorrow and Christmas Eve.

Judge Nathan: The response [on deliberating tomorrow] is No, thank you. [So it will break for four days - caused by earlier three day break? Stories later.]

Yesterday the jury asked for testimony of Jane, Annie and Carolyn - and not Kate. Today, Kate and Juan Alessi.

Didn't think they could use Kate's?

I don't believe they are deadlocked; that's probably just her opinion. Julie Brown is the author of the articles that exposed Epstein's crime to the world.
That's probably why she said "appears" . If they are deadlocked, don't they have to tell the judge anyway? If they cannot come to agreement with one more day, maybe they are deadlocked or heading for it.

Nathan also told lawyers to be safe, with what turned into a humorous moment. "I need all of you, well I don't need all of you, I need most of you here on Monday."

Just your routine reminder that a juror said during voir dire that she wasn't currently enrolled in grad school bc of the vaccination status requirement...

Nathan also announced that there would be new mask protocols come Monday, requiring N95s or similar, be worn by anyone in the courthouse. She also said jurors could also "take some home for the weekend."

Correct, they would have to inform Judge Nathan that they were deadlocked however it appears they requested additional transcripts so there is still active discussion taking place.
