A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

I agree, i don’t think he carried or drug her there, I think they went for a late evening hike, and then whatever happened~happened, I suspect it was early on the 28th, hence the usage of a credit card and driving time
I can't disagree with any possibility but I guess I feel the van parked there is a bit odd. Unless this was somewhere they often parked and walked to the creek or went before of which I have no idea. I was thinking perhaps she ran from him and he followed her down there or he parked there and possibly walked her down there at gun point? I could be way off base but for some reason I just feel he went there to kill her. Not sure why. Couldn't do it too easily at a campground, etc.

On the other hand, just an escalating dispute that was not planned I guess might make more sense.

The fact people say it is her flip flops in one of the pics in two different spots by the van plays in my head... IF they are hers... I wonder about them coming off or being kicked off as she ran...

How does this strike you? They are driving along and are arguing or he is hitting her as he is driving it or he is losing it... He pulls over entirely angry and she knows it and she bolts... This is more what I picture...

The picture of the flips flops are facing the back of the van door that looks like they were taken off before getting it, I wonder if she had hiking boots on when she was found
The picture I saw I thought they pointed the shoes out quite a distance from each other. Maybe that's incorrect but thought it was what I saw. I do think as you say the argument continued or escalated but still think perhaps the pullover was due to the argument which had a bad ending at the creek but again, it's just a theory.

Maybe there is 2 pictures
Could be maybe. I have to honestly say I could barely tell they were flip flops but I will take the word of it from people who are better at enhancing pictures or blowing them up than I am. It seems to be accepted it was shoes... And then if the shoes were separated and/or not neatly put up, I thought of her claim she was OCD and thought it odd...

This is probably the one I saw too but it had more foreground of the pic and some thought another spot that we can't see that would be toward us if it could be seen was a second flip flop. Honestly the first one is hard to tell and what they thought was the second I could barely make out at all. That's how though I got the impression the shoes were in two different spots. I sure can't tell or see it well for myself though.

The way I remember the one I saw was the first shoe to the right of the ladder (the right circle) and then one the opposite direction from that shoe, not the direction of the 2nd circle but the other way coming towards us if we saw more ground in front of the first shoe. At least that's what people were speculating and I don't see that area here or enough ground to see it. That is the first I heard speculation that that other spot is a phone though.

Either way, to me if there is only one shoe and the other is elsewhere, it strikes me as she may have scrambled, lost them, kicked them off and ran, etc. Again I think of her stating she had OCD so I would expect to see a pair of shoes together.... Most likely anyhow. And now if that also is a phone, that even more lends to that thought, she wouldn't leave her phone on the ground...

And it's probably nothing also but could a person get the entire one side of the van any fully closer to the brush... And while he (or maybe they but I thought mainly him) possibly liked to go barefoot, the rocks there and grass etc. seem like an odd terrain to want to be barefoot in... I sure don't know...🤷‍♀️

Unfortunately my brain goes somewhere much more sinister with one flipflop out the back of the van. Especially if I'm remembering correctly that this is the location he disposed of her body. I'd be interested in the forensic testing of the van because I think (IMO) she may have lost that flip flop as he's carrying her away.
