A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

Unfortunately my brain goes somewhere much more sinister with one flipflop out the back of the van. Especially if I'm remembering correctly that this is the location he disposed of her body. I'd be interested in the forensic testing of the van because I think (IMO) she may have lost that flip flop as he's carrying her away.
I think that way too at times. I just wonder about his ability to dispose of her from the van on his own, unseen, and also his ability to clean it up well. LE did take it I am pretty sure, at a certain point. But maybe they did find something forensically in it...

It truly would make a difference to know if both shoes are outside or not... If only one is around in that general area, I lean towards how you are thinking more so... People were speculating on a spot they thought was one that was actually a bit closer to the road or path... If he was disposing of her and taking a body from the van, I don't see him walking the body towards the road and losing the other shoe. I can tell ya though the other spot people thought was a shoe, you sure couldn't have proved it by me, it was more unclear by far than the first one that is circled above.

IF that is her flip flop and phone it almost makes me wonder if he was actively concealing her body when the video was taken.

I wonder that too or her running. I believe this picture comes from the go pro cam mounted in that family's car doesn't it? If he heard or saw the car coming and they were outside fighting or she was hurt, he may have grabbed her and hauled her inside or around the van to conceal...?

That was my first and lasting impression as well.

I would like to know if the shoes were eventually found with her remains.

You know, there was something that struck me yesterday that I just saw again elsewhere today. It may be nothing at all.

I have seen the reservation sheet twice for the campground which shows the Laundries booked September 6 to 8th, the 8th being checkout. Everyone, however, reports they left the 7th. Why did they not stay the second night I wonder? I don't doubt it had to be paid for. Correct me if I am wrong but the 6th was Labor Day wasn't it? Not the oddest time to camp, tons do but the 7th and 8th most people would be gone by, at least those with children in school, etc. Labor Day as we know kind of marks the end of "summer vacation".

I am a former camper and without fail, MOST leave on the Labor Day Monday. I would picture this campground pretty full until then and on Tuesday, it was likely pretty quiet, one would think anyhow.

Thoughts?

Ok now this, it’s getting weird todayView attachment 12916
I just saw a post from a woman known to live in that area (I know this from another case). She commented on planes and helicopters busy over that area, she could hear them all day and all night long about a night before this past night, etc. I wonder if somehow Brian Entin heard something like this and thought it was current as of today?

Or as you say, it could be the Feds. Or perhaps some other activity for some other purpose?
