A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

I feel so bad for Gabby's parents. What a classy bunch! To watch her mom crying in that interview made me cry as well.
I just don't feel much sympathy for the Laundries however. I'm sure the protesters are annoying but I wouldn't be renting them an inch of my property, and would call the cops if they put up signs in my yard. Puts me in mind of the protestors in the Anthony's case. Do any of them actually think what they're doing is helping?? Because it's not. All it does is make them angry and more determined to protect Brian. As for his sister, I don't really have an opinion one way or another.
and it makes neighbors really mad, too. It solves absolutely nothing.

It certainly was. There are sure a whole lot of people these days running dash cam and traveling, etc...

You know, in hindsight, if Brian or his parents, etc. had taken Gabby's family's calls and given them some "story" who knows how long they could have put things off...

If he hadn't come home with the van and used her cards... They would likely both be considered missing and she may have not been found yet...
I agree with you.....If he hadn't come home with the van. What a stupid thing to do from a criminal perspective but, he had to get home and he couldn't hike eventhough he's such a great hiker. Why was it so imperative that he get back home..was it back to his "safe place" because he can only be nomadic so long before he comes unraveled? Is this a pattern that his family is well aware of? How many weeks did it take on this trip...6? How many weeks has he been gone..4? So we have 2 maybe 3 weeks before this nomad statik (I think there's something in this name that alludes to his personality) comes undone and he has to get back to a safe place or find a new safe place to ride it out so-to-speak.

I'm pretty sure the phone logs will show that he called his parents first before he took off and I am also sure a plan was hatched at that time.

I worry about Gabby's family, they deserve to see justice done for her sake. I don't think I could go through with what they have and it amazes me how strong they are. It's wonderful to see how the 4 parents come together and support each other.

I wonder if Brian and his parents have ever considered what is proving to be a very long, hard road, and that he will have to stay alert at all times to avoid being caught.... for YEARS!! It would have to be very hard to live like this, looking over your shoulder and realizing one wrong move could be his downfall. Sure, there have been people who have done it, but few manage to succeed forever.

If he's still alive, one of them is bound to screw it up eventually.

His and Gabby's phones are most likely in pieces and scattered all the way between Wyoming and Florida. I can't imagine that he would have kept either one. IMO we will never know what was on them.

I wonder so many things about the Laundries. I wonder what kind of a relationship they had (if any) with Gabby's parents. I wonder if they have anyone in their family that is supporting their current position. I wonder what they say to each other inside their house. I wonder if they are really as calm as they appear. I wonder what kind of groceries they order and how they can possibly eat. I wonder if they cry.

there will still be logs of the calls from the provider(s).

It was stupid, not only does he take her van and cards but he heads right to where her parents will know at some point he came back with her things and without her.

It seems unless he just was not thinking things through, he had some reason for feeling the need to come home. The obvious guess is money and shelter...

It's anyone's guess how long he can keep it up... We know he loses control as he did with Gabby... I just don't see him in my mind as a very self sufficient type...

well, we know he evidently couldn't make it home on his own since he used her cards to fund that trip, so I sure don't see him being very self sufficient, either. He is a grown man that evidently didn't have his own funds.

What?? Why would he have to shave if they could check fingerprints??

I hope they are sure they have an actual copy of Brian's prints. I wonder where they got them...
