A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

That Atty needs to shut his trap. He’s making his clients look even more cold hearted.
I totally agree. He looks and sounds stupid and they look totally uncaring.
My bff’s daughter was in an abusive marriage for eight years. It’s through her I’ve learned how horrifying the final confrontation can be. Fortunately she miraculously survived.

What started as a verbal dispute escalated and when she realized it had gone too far by the look in his eyes, she backed away and turned to run down the stairs. He ran after her and caught her just as she partially opened the sliding door. He slammed her on the ground in the family room and began strangling her. To speed things up, he attempted to cut off any additional air intake by biting her nose. It was at this point her dog came to her rescue. He attacked her husband until he stopped.

She knows he would have killed her. Now she knows. That night I think she was in shock.

There’s more to what happened that fateful day/night, but you get the point. The abuser can turn animal.

That's horrible. I have been there and the look in the eyes is one you don't forget nor are hands around your throat, your inability to breathe, knowing you are going to die and being unable to do a thing about it.

I pray she got out immediately after that and that she is doing better.

It is shocking to me how many in comments on this case that I see who have had it happen to them. I know it's not uncommon but the sheer numbers I see staggers me. Gabby wasn't saved but perhaps someone else will be.

Like everyone, I fail to see what they are doing in this reserve. Now with guns. This is getting ridiculous. If they think he is in there, flush him out and be done. If they think he is dead in there, you don't need guns. If he has any internet access, he knows they are there and knows they are looking there so what's the big secret? Just tell people why ya keep going back there, if there is even a reason...

I too understand that 'look' when you see the shadow in their eyes that no longer seem human. It's absolutely terrifying. Coming out of it, alive, made me stronger than I ever thought possible.

Gabby didn't have an out or escape when she needed it the most & I hope that if anything is learned from this it's trust your inner voice and don't turn back.

I'd like to know that too. Sadly I'd predict it's unlikely. Such isn't take all that seriously in most areas. Now if she was a man and he'd cracked a beer bottle over her head in a bar brawl, then one might see some serious charges... And it'd be called assault in that case most likely. Truth.

It’s a long story but he was arrested the next day and did serve a year. This was awhile ago and he’s out now. She’d already divorced him and sold everything so she’s done with him. He knows the police would love to throw him back in the slammer, so he’s left her alone since! Loser……..

fran

Ps…. A few months before the assault, the victim came home from work and her husband had dug a hole in the back yard and Was filling it with water and trying to drown her dog. That dog was the one who attacked him when he was trying to kill her.

Oh Lord. This triggers me. You are fortunate she is out of there. I too have been through animal/pet deaths... Not going to go into it but just know this doesn't surprise me and yet it does when one hears it...

A year for such a type. Yep, that's pretty typical and in fact, that's probably a lot compared to many cases... That's "domestics" for ya...

Hah! Karma!

  • Gabby Petito's father Joseph was seen leaving the Valley Mortuary in Jackson, Wyoming, on Saturday morning clutching the white box containing the ashes of the 22-year-old van life blogger
  • The grieving family traveled to Wyoming to collect her ashes from a local mortuary after her remains were finally released by the coroner's office earlier this week
  • Gabby's mother and stepfather Nichole and Jim Schmidt arriving in Jackson Wednesday afternoon
  • Their daughter's remains had been held at the Teton County Coroner's office since she was found last month as part of the ongoing investigation into her death
  • Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue - who earlier confirmed her death was ruled a homicide - on Tuesday revealed Gabby had died of manual strangulation
  • Blue said he could not determine the exact date she was killed but confirmed she was a victim of domestic violence and that her body had lay undiscovered in the remote Wyoming wilderness for up to four weeks
  • Gabby was found dead on September 19 near an undeveloped camping area along the border of Grand Teton National Park

and she very well could have told him to go back home because she enjoyed the week without him when he went back "to clean out the storage unit".

now if they would only quit blocking the road
I wonder if reporters/news stations are still renting yards/neighbor's homes. Ridiculous imo. News can't cover sh*t normally or give their reporters a budget...

I don't think much of what I believe the parents have done/are doing but clearly they are not going to crack and bawl on their front lawn and say "let us be"... At most maybe they will do as the daughter did...

And what is LE doing? Why don't they burn the entire reserve? Seriously. Videos for days with the honestly pretty neat amphibious vehicle with what six riding along and a dog mowing over trees and everything in their path... It made for great video no doubt... Now it's cordoned off and they have guns and it is said to be training...

A very serious case but what an odd bunch of sh*t going on around it...

There's a big difference between neighbors allowing them into their yards (paid or not) and the people just trampling all over yards without permission and blocking the roads for neighbors to safely get into and out of their own neighborhood. I went through that crap with my very local case. News stations were the worst about it. If you ever heard the song by Korn "Y'all Want a Single" there is a very explicit line repeated over and over. We were getting ready to go by the live shots, shot from the very middle of the road, and blast that thing. We also had an old 4wheeler that smoked tremendously that they did ride up the road and smoke their shot. They were mad and that made us glad :teehee:

It would definitely get old very fast. The Laundries have not caved and done anything to the protesters/media but I'm sure they'd like to lol.

They may as well give it up, it's not doing any good imo. Maybe if they left and it got quiet, Brian would actually try to sneak home to ma and pa. He sure wouldn't with it the way it is at the moment...

Brian Laundrie’s dad emerges to rip down protest sign from front yard

Brian Laundrie’s father emerged from his Florida home Saturday to remove a sign protesters left on his lawn next to a large photo of slain Long Island native Gabby Petito, pictures showed.

Chris Laundrie, 62, was seen ripping down a yellow sign reading “What if this happened to Cassie?,” a reference to his daughter and Brian’s sister.

I have a huge driveway and I would let them use it, as long as they signed a contract that they were paying me oodles of money and when they were done they were going to rerock my driveway.

Wow! Does anyone think that all of this is going to do anything? I’m pretty sure that if they do know where their son is, their heels or dug in and they’re not going to say anything No matter what.
