A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

Brian Laundrie’s dad emerges to rip down protest sign from front yard

Brian Laundrie’s father emerged from his Florida home Saturday to remove a sign protesters left on his lawn next to a large photo of slain Long Island native Gabby Petito, pictures showed.

Chris Laundrie, 62, was seen ripping down a yellow sign reading “What if this happened to Cassie?,” a reference to his daughter and Brian’s sister.

I dunno. I just feel like his sister had nothing to do with this. The whole "what if this happened to Cassie" sounds kind of threatening.

I feel so bad for Gabby's parents. What a classy bunch! To watch her mom crying in that interview made me cry as well.
I just don't feel much sympathy for the Laundries however. I'm sure the protesters are annoying but I wouldn't be renting them an inch of my property, and would call the cops if they put up signs in my yard. Puts me in mind of the protestors in the Anthony's case. Do any of them actually think what they're doing is helping?? Because it's not. All it does is make them angry and more determined to protect Brian. As for his sister, I don't really have an opinion one way or another.

There's a big difference between neighbors allowing them into their yards (paid or not) and the people just trampling all over yards without permission and blocking the roads for neighbors to safely get into and out of their own neighborhood. I went through that crap with my very local case. News stations were the worst about it. If you ever heard the song by Korn "Y'all Want a Single" there is a very explicit line repeated over and over. We were getting ready to go by the live shots, shot from the very middle of the road, and blast that thing. We also had an old 4wheeler that smoked tremendously that they did ride up the road and smoke their shot. They were mad and that made us glad :teehee:

"They" did ride up the road?

Gabby Petito Foundation's first fundraiser kicks off with strong showing in Long Island hometown

An estimated 200 people stopped in to pay their respects in the first hour

The first fundraiser for the new Gabby Petito Foundation saw a line out the door when it kicked off Sunday afternoon in her Long Islandhometown.
An estimated 200 people stopped in to pay their respects in the first hour of a planned six-hour event at 89 North, a rock venue in Patchogue, New York, according to staff members and the volunteer doorman.

Petito’s story has touched the hearts of people across the country – with many referring to the travel-blogging 22-year-old as "America’s daughter." The fundraiser for a charity in her honor aimed at aiding the families of other missing persons drew supporters ranging from local business owners to civil servants and other citizens Sunday.

I understand the protestors' frustration, but they shouldn't be putting stuff in the Laundries yard. Not likely, but they could be arrested for trespassing. I bet the nearby neighbors would allow them to put signs in their yards.

I totally disagree with doing this, but I love the message. People don't care if it happens to someone else. If it's THEIR family, then the rules change dramatically.

HIS parents need to get on the darned news and tell their SON in no uncertain terms to turn himself in like now! They need to tell him they are concerned about him and need to know he is safe, to come in and they will be there for him and see him through presenting whatever his side of things is....

The very FACT that they don't do this indicates plenty imo!!!

And LE is looking like nothing less than ridiculous with their obsession in the reserve!! I have racked my brain for a plausible explanation of why they continue there at this late date and cannot come up with one.

Watching Gabby's mother again today in tears and heartache has me irate yet again at this family and their son!!

Frustrated. I can't even IMAGINE how her family gets through this.

For once, I totally agree with you.

I really don't understand. If he's really out there "surviving" in the wilderness, how long do they think this can go on? What is the end game? What is the long-term plan? Winter is coming. If he's out there being Bear Grylls he better have some good survival gear stocked up.
Did they not expect the media and attention to blow up like this and it would be a short-term thing and he could come out of hiding soon? Certainly this was more thought out than "hide in the wilderness indefinitely".

Yeah I don’t think that’s the case at all. I still think that he isn’t alive anymore. None of it makes sense otherwise. If he is alive, I will fall over and faint.

I agree with Walsh, he's alive and being helped by the family and he's nowhere near the park. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out he's at his sister's house. How much food are they buying at the grocery store?

I personally think he was put somewhere possibly out of the country... Not saying I'm right, who knows, could be anywhere... At minimum I picture him in shelter and not roughing it...

I do NOT get the searching at the reserve. I have heard every theory on it from his phone pinging to looking for signs of him to other things... None of it makes sense to me for the money and time and man hours invested.

All I can guess is there is/was a plan and they did not expect this and perhaps did not expect her to be found or found in the time frame she was... Now they may or may not know where he is today but have no way to contact him or get help to him for all of the attention on them and they are "sticking it out"... Saving face... Covering for him...

The thing is, we have no way of knowing the parents did not have a recent how many thousand dollar withdrawal or several small ones and by recent I mean back to when he first came home... Back to whey they lawyered up... Why... Even if LE knew or saw something like this, proving where cash went or finding him is another story....

They/he had a huge running head start... Imo.

Could be. I disagree and don't feel that way but if so, he has some stoic apparently nongrieving parents... But it does cross my mind, I'd be lying if I said it doesn't... But I think he's alive.

Her body being found so quickly I'm sure threw them for a loop. Pretty miraculous the way that happened.

It certainly was. There are sure a whole lot of people these days running dash cam and traveling, etc...

You know, in hindsight, if Brian or his parents, etc. had taken Gabby's family's calls and given them some "story" who knows how long they could have put things off...

If he hadn't come home with the van and used her cards... They would likely both be considered missing and she may have not been found yet...

I seriously doubt they will find him in the reserve, unless he is dead. My strongest feelings are that he is in another country and managing to disguise himself enough that he won't be recognizable. But whatever is happening to him, he put himself in that situation. I don't like to wish harm onto anybody, but I wouldn't be too upset to find out he got eaten by an alligator.... slowly... from the feet up. But I just don't think he is there. They're wasting time and resources keeping this search going. And it's got to be pretty hard for the people searching.
As for the protestors, they got to give up someday, surely they have lives, obligations, things to do, people to see. It can't be really entertaining to stand out there and yell and stomp all over somebody's lawn all day. Yeah, it's not entertainment, I get that... but they are not accomplishing one damn thing of good. Not that I feel sorry for the Laundries' but it would drive me right over the edge if I were in their shoes.

If people are telling the truth, supposedly at least the one female protestor is kind of a "pro" at it... And known for it.

I don't like what is probably a dangerous desperate Brian on the loose but I think things need to die down for him or those helping him to make a move... And of course they likely read it all too...

The search imo always in the same area is becoming almost a very expensive repetitive joke.

Like you, the POS if he killed her (which I think he did) if eaten by a reptile, good riddance(!) but in the same breath, her family probably needs and wants justice even though when found, that process can be a long term new phase and hard road on its own. They want to know, one way or the other, I'm sure.
