A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

I am wondering what actual info they have to throw so many resources at this particular place.
I am starting to think they are trying to prove that he is not dead in the reserve... Amphibious vehicles running over trees and vegetation. Dogs. Search after search. From the start, I have felt that the car staged there and the Laundries not reporting him missing until after the fact of course was to give him a head start to safety and the plan I think was to hope the law gave him up for dead somewhere in the "swamp" etc. and let the case die and not pursue him nor his arrest...

It reminds me of a no body prosecution in a way... They have to almost prove the person isn't alive and didn't run off... Show they looked everywhere they could, checked borders, airlines, credit cards, their bank accounts to show no activity, etc. Examples are Lacy Peterson, Suzanne Morphew and so very many more...

Is it that they think he is there or are they trying to prove what Brian and his parents hoped would be thought, that he is NOT dead in the reserve... Not for one minute do I think that car was left there to point to where he was--it was left there to hope they thought that... Jmo.

Sounds like John Walsh hit a nerve.
I like Walsh and of course we all know his story and the good he has done but I will say his questions during the PC had me and many going are you kidding me, I mean even us dumb civilian non-experts knew better than to think he would get answers, it seemed attention seeking... However, regardless, his side is the right side/victims NOT perps... And perhaps he is trying to shake things up, hit nerves...

Anyhow, Bertolino is hardly one to talk is he...? I mean it was disgusting to hear he issued a statement basically during and before the delivery was over at the PC of the autopsy results of a young woman who lost her life brutally due to strangulation... Not sure he is a "relic" as he calls Dog and Walsh but why is it we all know his name so well these days...? Oh yeah, he puts his name out there in the news on behalf of Brian and his parents, the POI/POS in this case... Bills himself as Long Island's premier attorney... Isn't Gabby's family from there or am I wrong on that...? I don't think they seem to feel he is the "premier attorney"...

As Gabby's mom basically said, wasn't it something like shut up if he has nothing of import to say...? And he doesn't does he but sticks it out there anyhow, statements with big nothings and careful semantics... And probably or possibly at the direction of his clients...

Bertolino is to the Laundries as Mark Means is to Lori Vallow. In my opinion, he may be worse. Vigorously defending clients against charges that don't exist. He protests way too much.
Great comparison. He protests way too much, says not one thing of import so why even speak and sticks it out there in the news imo. Perhaps the man doesn't like the relics of Dog and Walsh taking his limelight lol.

And yah, what is he defending? Brian isn't present nor his client or is he? The parents aren't charged? If he is running PR, it sure ain't working, people think worse of the family after Bertolino speaks than they already do...

In the special, Walsh speculated that Laundrie might be there, in the Bahamas or hiding out along the Appalachian Trail and alleged his parents may be helping him as he remains on the lam.

"I absolutely believe that his family is helping him stay on the run," said Walsh, who also hosts "In Pursuit with John Walsh" on ID.

Bertolino snapped back at such speculation.

"Dusty relics like that Dog and John Walsh need a tragic situation like this so they can clear the cobwebs off their names and give their publicity-hungry egos some food," Bertolino told Fox News Digital, also taking aim at Duane "Dog" Chapman, the reality TV star and real-life bounty hunter who entered the search for Laundrie late last month.
That Atty needs to shut his trap. He’s making his clients look even more cold hearted.

Thoughts we can’t comprehend.
The ultimate control over the life of another and their personal possibly last breath and all up to them, every bit of it, whether they choose to take their life or let go and smirk and let them live--for another day maybe... Power.

Other parts my guess is about shutting them up, for good if they have to or at least for the moment, stopping someone from leaving them when they catch onto just what and how they are and who they are and oh boy, if they can tell the woman is trying to get out a door or reach for a phone, call 911, and might tell all, they can't have that at any cost...

They can knock their head on cement, pull them up and slam them again, she can struggle to get up and survive and then grabbed again and thrown against walls, punch them, beat them and then choke them but I imagine the ultimate feeling of control is their neck in his hands... And one sees the cold and maniacal look in his eyes up close as he holds that power and is squeezing and throttling...

We know they are weak and insecure and some piece of vermin lashing out at the more vulnerable, usually hurting women, children, elderly so that they feel all POWERFUL in their pathetic skin that can't take care of sh*t in their life...

This case gets to me... I can't believe how many in comments everywhere in this case identify with such abuse or have been at the receiving end and we are in the year 2021!!

Yes, I have been at the receiving end of it in my life. I will never forget the moment I knew I was going to die and couldn't fight any longer after an all over the place attack which the last part of was the hands around the neck, at the last breath or chance and had no fight left in me... Enough said.

Maybe I shouldn't write or share this but honestly I hope her case is a start... I am going to do my part and admit I have been there and I hope a conversation continues. I am not keen on sharing such things.

I know women right now and I was one who think just try it buster, I can stand up for and defend myself--I thought that.... Until it happens to you... You think you would be able to fight back, stand up for yourself and WON'T take it, no problem. And then it happens to you and you find out you are NO MATCH. I thought that way until...

One thing I did NOT do is take it or stay... One time. And that was it. DONE.

But I found out the system is a joke... No arrest as he fled. Then he came back and was outside... Called for help more than one time that night. And even then back out and violating the order... And I personally don't like the term domestic violence. It is ASSAULT. IT IS BATTERY. It is ATTEMPTED MURDER. It doesn't require a FIST, why is that such a thing? It makes me sick, "I never hit her with my fist"... And domestics are often pled down to "disorderlies", misdemeanors... Keeps those violent crime statistics down ya know... Politics... And it's just against a woman... It's a relationship thing. And ya know, she'll go right back to it/him...

referring specifically to Aug. 12 bodycam footage from police in Moab, Utah, following a domestic incident, Burgess noted that Laundrie appeared to have control over Petito's van because he was driving it; control over her finances because he reportedly used her credit card; and, ultimately, control over her because he "kept her isolated" by traveling to remote areas and camping, Burgess said. She also noted that Petito's remains were found in an isolate area.
Burgess also mentioned that Laundrie continued to refer to Petito as his fiancée to police in the video despite the fact that her mother, Nichole Schmidt, told media outlets earlier in the saga that the pair had decided to hold off on getting married to travel.d area.

Like so many others who have to control everything and everyone but cannot control themselves. The question remains if he silences himself permanently in order to have total control of this story or can he control himself to not make the Reserve his own private Aokigahara.

Brian Laundrie search: Officers carrying large rifles into Carlton Reserve are ‘training and searching,’ police say

NORTH PORT, Fla. (WFLA) — There was a large law enforcement presence on Friday at the Sarasota County nature reserve where the search for Brian Laundrie has been focused.

One of the entrances to the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, which gives access to the Carlton Reserve, was taped off Friday morning. Later, in the afternoon, officers were seen carrying large rifles into a wooded area of the reserve about a mile from the entrance.

I suppose if you need to train your people to search, you may as well train them where they might find something.

My bff’s daughter was in an abusive marriage for eight years. It’s through her I’ve learned how horrifying the final confrontation can be. Fortunately she miraculously survived.

What started as a verbal dispute escalated and when she realized it had gone too far by the look in his eyes, she backed away and turned to run down the stairs. He ran after her and caught her just as she partially opened the sliding door. He slammed her on the ground in the family room and began strangling her. To speed things up, he attempted to cut off any additional air intake by biting her nose. It was at this point her dog came to her rescue. He attacked her husband until he stopped.

She knows he would have killed her. Now she knows. That night I think she was in shock.

There’s more to what happened that fateful day/night, but you get the point. The abuser can turn animal.

Gabby Petito's parents are visiting a place that reminds them of their late daughter.
On Friday, her father Joseph Petito shared an image of Jenny Lake in Wyoming — a location he said his daughter once visited.
In the photo, snowcapped mountains loom over the calm, crystal blue water.

"I now know why you came here," Joseph wrote on Twitter. "#gabbypetito has a beautiful view from now on. Love you, and miss you."
Earlier this week, Gabby's parents traveled to Wyoming to bring her remains back to New York, a representative for the family told NBC News.
