A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

And, a very personal way to kill some one. No way he can claim it was an accident. The coroner said she was killed 2-3 weeks prior to her body being found. Was that when he flew back to FL to "clean out the storage unit"?
Allegedly she was seen after he went back to Utah so she was not dead when he came home on that trip. Allegedly someone saw him making a scene at the Merry Piglet restaurant and Gabby apologizing for him. Also, allegedly, Gabby's dad ordered her a pizza to the motel room she was staying in while Brian was gone...

I wouldn't normally share just any creator's video but this one is short, 9 minutes about, and it only really touches on what was said by the coroner in the PC so those points can be confirmed easily. He pointed out that the coroner did mention samples sent to a forensic entomologist and that a forensic anthropologist was also part of the team.

Just sharing because although I heard this in the PC, I never really noted or logged it in my head.

I also have no conclusions, just sharing. Since she was out there for some time, it is likely not unusual to involve two such experts.

Experts say such an assault is a red flag for intimate partner homicides.

Gabby Petito died from strangulation. And while her case has opened up national conversation about partner abuse, experts hope the tragedy will shine a spotlight on a serious danger: Potential strangulation in domestic violence.

Strangulation is defined as killing someone by squeezing the throat. But a growing number of domestic violence experts believe that the term should be used more loosely to apply to situations where the incident is non-fatal.

"When journalists correctly utilize the term 'strangulation,' they increase the public’s familiarity with a specific form of abuse and acknowledge the severe short and long term consequences of this type of violence," according to a media guide by Jane Doe Inc., The Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence.

Assaults that seek to deprive someone of oxygen are more common than most people realize, experts say. A woman who has been assaulted in such a way by a partner has a sevenfold risk of being murdered by that partner, according to Dr. Eve Valera, an associate professor at Harvard Medical School who studies intimate partner violence and brain injury.

"It's one of the most frightening experiences that women tend to report in intimate partner violence situations," Valera said. "It's really about power and control . . .It's sort of of like saying, 'I can take your life at any moment.'"

Petito's death was ruled a homicide last month; on Tuesday, a coroner specified the cause of death as strangulation. The vlogger's video journal of her life on the road with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, attracted worldwide attention after she disappeared in late August in Wyoming.

Laundrie has since also disappeared. Police and the FBI, citing previous reports of possible domestic violence while the two were traveling together, have named him as a "person of interest" in the case. He has not been charged in connection with her murder.

"Unfortunately this is only one of many deaths around the country of people who are involved with domestic violence, and it's unfortunate that these other deaths did not get as much coverage as this one," Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue said Tuesday.

Well the big news lately was the Petitos mowed their lawn. I saw people covering it and did not even bother watching it, seemed again a bit "voyeuristic". I go such both ways on these things. And yet when I watched this which is from the news network, they covered the lawn mowing too, it's not just SM etc. Of course questions were thrown as he mowed. On one hand, I see nothing wrong with it, like when Nate Eaton went to Hawaii and did that to Chad and Lori, finding them and questioning them, I was all for it. I guess it is that in this case, Brian's parents didn't murder Gabby, they may be making a wrong choice but they are not the "murderer". I don't know...

Anyhow, the remainder of the couple of minutes is stating that the Petitos are going to WY to pick up Gabby and plan to return with her in a few days/this weekend.

I truly don't think I need to know that either. Knowing from the press conference that she would now be released since the autopsy was concluded and that they were working for the family to have her remains I think is enough. They had a public service with coverage and now they deserve to have privacy IF they wish. Imo.

Anyhow though, it is recent news so just posting.

And here is one that also shows the lawn mowing (he did trim around Gabby's makeshift Memorial) AND it has the coroner explaining what many are picking apart, some say he was saying Brian was the murderer since he mentioned domestic violence in the press conference yesterday. They ask him about it so he can explain.

I'm happy to know that all 4 of Gabby's parents are unified & will be able to bring her home.

For sure. I can only imagine she'd be proud of the way they are united for her. And I'm glad they are bringing her home. And perhaps they are fine with media, no idea. If they want privacy though or a private service, I just hope they will be allowed that without intrusion.

It blows my mind that someone could be so enraged that they can actually strangle the life out of somebody that they had loved, made love to, and promised to cherish forever. I don’t understand it and I never will. I have never ever been that angry at someone and I’ve had some pretty rotten things done to me.

I keep thinking about the notice left on the Mustang....usually LE waits 48 to 72 hours before putting it on. If that's true in this situation, the car would have been left there earlier that the 13th. Seventy-two hours backwards from the 13th would be Friday...the day they came looking for him. I don't suppose there is any pics anywhere of the Laundrie home on that weekend that would show if the car was there or not.

I believe it takes a certain kind of person to strangle someone with their hands either face-to-face or from behind. Someone with very dark dark thoughts in their mind.

In the special, Walsh speculated that Laundrie might be there, in the Bahamas or hiding out along the Appalachian Trail and alleged his parents may be helping him as he remains on the lam.

"I absolutely believe that his family is helping him stay on the run," said Walsh, who also hosts "In Pursuit with John Walsh" on ID.

Bertolino snapped back at such speculation.

"Dusty relics like that Dog and John Walsh need a tragic situation like this so they can clear the cobwebs off their names and give their publicity-hungry egos some food," Bertolino told Fox News Digital, also taking aim at Duane "Dog" Chapman, the reality TV star and real-life bounty hunter who entered the search for Laundrie late last month.

well, we know that Dog is doing it for the publicity, but John Walsh probably isn't. I agree that he very well could be still hiding with help and his parent's actions - or lack thereof - certainly is what brings me to that conclusion. They wouldn't answer her parents when they were trying to find her when he was right there at their house and then the first contact with LE is to give them a sheet of paper with their lawyer info on it. I mean, who does that?!

Cadaver Dog Requested as Brian Laundrie Preserve Search Ramps Up Again

"Investigators have added a cadaver dog as part of their ongoing, exhaustive search of the 25,000-acre Florida preserve where Gabby Petito's fiancé Brian Laundrie allegedly said he was heading for a hike the day he disappeared, the assisting sheriff's office confirmed to News 4 on Thursday.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office, which is about an hour and a half drive from the Carlton Reserve, which has been the focal point of the FBI's hunt for Laundrie since he vanished a month ago, said the human remains detection dog was requested.

A spokeswoman said the animal was provided at the request of both the FBI and the local North Port police department. She said her sheriff's office is the only one with that type of dog so it is in high demand, adding that Thursday isn't the first time her office has been asked to assist in this particular investigation......."

I am wondering what actual info they have to throw so many resources at this particular place.

Sounds like John Walsh hit a nerve.
