A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

This case has been unusual quiet since the father went to the reserve. All wind down eventually I know along with searches but I have the feeling something is up. I'm probably wrong. It feels like a strategy or some knowledge maybe the past couple of days.

Did the FBI ask the father to search with them or did the father ask to be able to search? I heard it reported both ways... It seems to have come on top of hearing the car was not left exactly where we thought/their possible lies...

I agree with the above. I just don't see him roughing it. Who though is helping him or how is he continuing to do it...

He is either in a home or some such not far away or they are going to find eventually that he took a bus or some other means of transportation. The easiest way would be a vehicle. The parents and he had time and aside from cash, another move could be something like prepaid Visa cards. With something like that, you could order in food and all sorts of things without likely using a real name ever.

Anything I can think of would have someone though having to take out or use some cash, at least a certain amount of it... They could have purchased Brian a used vehicle for instance from a private owner and perhaps not changed the plates or put "wrong" plates on it... Eventually possibly registration will be run if that's the case and something won't match up... It would also take some funds for Visa cards or food, etc.

Or a third person is helping. It is hard for me to fathom someone helping someone else's son and risking their own freedom but who knows... It doesn't appear Brian had a lot of friends from anything I have heard but if there is anyone who is an ex-con or a less than honest person, they may care less to rat him out to the police, hate the police themselves and perhaps would help him...

If he is roughing it and has no access to funds, etc., he has to be getting desperate. Personally I don't see it. He is going to run out of food, clean clothes, does he have a razor, shampoo, dry socks, more than one pair of shoes... He would look by now without those things quite noticeably bad I think. I mean just stop and think of the things you would miss, want and actually NEED if roughing it...

Many hotels don't ask questions and are home to questionable activities... Vacation rentals... A cabin, a home, an empty 2nd vacation or summer home of someone... If they really thought this out, some vacation rentals, etc., you can ask them to have stocked before you arrive with food and other things you will require... For a fee...

When did the parents buy that camper...? Wasn't it recent? They probably pulled funds to do that and perhaps they pulled some extra... Of course, it could just be financed with payments though... Unless they keep some cash in the home, I think there have to be financial transactions LE is questioning or would like to question them about...

Just thoughts. Sick and tired of him being at large.

A large cash transaction could be said to be a retainer for the attorney and because of attorney/client privilege, I am unsure that LE could determine otherwise.. And perhaps could not even ask...

Has there ever been a full description of the backpack he allegedly took with him when he allegedly went for a hike?
Do we know how many backpacks he owned?
If he only took a day pack I'm more inclined to think he is somewhere cushy but if he took something like this Fully Packed Backpack (backpackers.com) then I would think he's able to stay outside for a while. There's so much dehydrated food stuff that you can carry that's lightweight and small and if he has a Life Straw, he doesn't need to carry water, just be close to a water source.

I think LE would have to have a search warrant for the Laundries financials and to get that they would need probable cause. Finding out for sure if they helped him with his "hiking/flight" hopefully would give them probably cause. I would like to know how they track and/or investigate any cash transactions they might find on anyone's financial records.

I don't think so. HIs parents don't talk and who knows when Brian really left (time of day, etc. or how). Are there other trips or photos showing a backpack for him of a several day hike or camping trip?

I agree it can be done but like the guy said and what I think too is he did not take off to hide after killing Gabby, he took her van and cards and headed right back to where it was know he lives (if LE was to look for him), to his parents. He ran right to mommy and daddy. He had to know it was possible he would be caught on the way home, she could be found, he had her van and cards, etc. Personally I think he went there for money and for some place to hole up, perhaps a place they have or know of or some such. Because he could have taken the van in any direction how many states away, used her credit cards, dumped the van and cards and took off from there too, never going home. There is a reason he went home I think... And I just don't think it was for help roughing it, he could have done that elsewhere and immediately have taken off... Jmo though.

I get he can have dehydrated foods, the Life Straw, etc. but he also cannot be seen or would rather not I'm sure and what about cleaning clothes, hanging them to dry (may be noticed), bathing, etc. All of these things are chances he has to take. He may run out of bug spray...

If he truly is roughing it, he left with one of those huge trek packs/backpacks I would guess... If so, did he have everything needed at home with his folks or did they go shopping, he go shopping, etc... Order from Amazon? All trackable I would think although initially they were not probably under 24 hour surveillance...

I'm thinking let's say the camper was $15,000 but they took $17,000 out for instance (not accurate worth, just throwing some figures out there) or they told cops they paid the attorney a $10,000 retainer but really only gave him $7,000... If LE can even determine it false, they could say yeah, we used the rest for fun money. Took a day trip, went to a carnival, I don't know. Many things are traceable but I just wonder if there is not a financial transaction or two LE is questioning but of course they can't prove what it was used for... They sure wouldn't tell us and the Laundries were not cooperating with them since the lawyered up...

Here is another one about the laundry baskets, etc.

I feel for the parents and yet I understand people are angry. On a lighter note, laundry baskets aren't cheap and they now have a bunch of free ones.

Seriously though, that "boy" needs to turn himself in and stop all of this.

Do you think he's still alive?
I do for several reasons, one being the apparent lies and trouble the parents are going to, and he doesn' strike me as the suicidal type, he seems too full of himself imo.

I will admit though the longer that time goes on, the doubt does creep in once in awhile that maybe he isn't alive. But I truly believe he is.
