A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

It begs the question why they didn't know where to look in the first place. It isnt likely the registration didn't come back to someone with their last name. Is that not in the same county?
I am getting a bit lost/confused myself. Who reported Brian missing? Was it the attorney?

How did LE get onto the car at the wrong spot? Did the parents or attorney say that is where they recovered the car from and did they say that spot (the wrong spot)? Also, I am recalling that the FBI I believe hauled the parents in for questioning later, we saw pictures. I wonder if the parents answered anything or cooperated or cooperated along with their attorney present advising what to answer and not to answer? In other words, who knows what if anything the Laundries said at that point...

I have a feeling law enforcement has them caught in an outright lie or two. I'm not saying it is enough to necessarily do much with but it seems pretty clear they lied, about the date, the location, etc. I also think these things coming out may be to add pressure and show/hint they are "caught" in lies...

That's a shame. :(

Deceased hiker found near Gabby Petito's remains died by suicide: coroner

It crossed my mind as it probably did others with this death. He seemed too young to have probably had a heart attack or anything, there was no hint in news of foul play, etc. Hopefully they are sure though it was suicide and I assume they are. Sad and tragic.

You are right. I totally missed that when I was looking him up. One stop shopping. Looking at the disclaimer on that site, it appears there is more than 1 attorney yet no other attorneys are listed. Surely this guy isn't so smart that he knows every nuance of every area of the law.
Actually I had never looked him up til just now. I did so just to see if he was in a firm and there was a criminal defense attorney in the firm with whom he might be consulting. I too thought he was not a defense attorney as all over the internet people say he isn't. I was surprised when I looked him up to see he says he does do criminal defense.

Of course that doesn't mean he has done murder or high profile, hard to say. It could be theft, OWIs, defense of DV even or smaller crimes.

He clearly does not specialize in just criminal law though. I think I would want one that did in their shoes...

I deleted the post I made about the Sharkey case because once the press conference occurred, it was clear neither Sharkey nor his daughter had any idea they had a warrant for him prior to LE's arrival. So I had that detail wrong and I deleted it. I will post the press conference which is accurate in the Currrent News Thread. Anyhow, there are still many similarities between that case and this one. Social media influencer, travel, and most importantly, domestic violence.

EXCLUSIVE: Hiker who is '99.9%' certain he encountered fugitive Brian Laundrie on the Appalachian Trail has finally been questioned by the FBI and was told officials were following up on 11 other sightings in the area

  • The FBI are investigating 11 alleged sightings of Brian Laundrie along the Appalachian Trail close to the North Carolina-Tennessee border
  • Hiker Dennis Davis, 53, said he encountered Brian Laundrie on a deserted road close to a trail near the Tennessee border early Saturday morning
  • Davis, who was interviewed by the FBI on Wednesday afternoon, told DailyMail.com: 'They are definitely taking my information seriously'
  • A local resident has also come forward to reveal that he saw a scruffy, bearded stranger resembling Laundrie walking along a secluded rural road
  • Investigators have chased down leads in multiple states since Laundrie went missing three weeks ago
  • To date there has not been a confirmed sighting of the sole person of interest in 22-year-old Gabby Petito's homicide

I am glad they are taking every tip seriously and there are a few tips in that area it sounds like. I have my thoughts that do not place him on a trail but who knows.

It did occur to me earlier if he is in the "wilderness", he would need a razor and other things to stay shaved or hair cut, buzzed, etc. Showering would be tough or not available. Clean clothes especially over time. Especially if he does not want to be seen... He has to be getting stressed OR he is not out and about which is the way I lean...

Odd. Like everything in this case. So attorney claims father was asked by police to search with them. North Port seems to deny that and say they wouldn't deny him searching nor ask him to...

Attorney changes it to well it was a liaison who asked, a liaison with the FBI for him to help search.

Father claimed to search for son on the Monday before they claimed to last see him and he later went missing... That makes no sense.

Petitos said on Dr. Phil recently why are they not searching for their son like they did all they could searching to find Gabby so right after that show now dad claims he is searching for Brian and now was asked to but couldn't previously...

I don't know. Is it a poorly written article or are all these inconsistencies more lies... And what and who is a liaison to the FBI per the attorney?

Why haven't the parents come out and publicly asked him to turn himself in?

The above is heartbreaking but so very inspiring. Well worth watching. Imho. In something so bad and so much negative in this world, to see such good in the midst of such a tragedy... wow.

If there is a time to join in and make a difference, I feel this may be the time and one place to start to make a difference.... I think this is something to get behind and promote...

So they did frequent this area, the family, and dad is to lead them through the trails they used...? Didn't know mom and dad were hikers or into nature reserves but who knows... And they trust him to take them on the actual trails...

We will see I guess... Perhaps the parents have come to their senses but not counting on it...

Police say no campsite was found at the nature reserve during search for Brian Laundrie

"
(CNN)North Port Police say investigators did not find a campsite in the sprawling nature reserve that has been the focus of the search for Brian Laundrie, the missing fiancé of Gabby Petito.
Police spokesperson Josh Taylor's confirmation that there was no campsite comes after a source close to the Laundrie family told CNN's Chris Cuomo that they had been informed by investigators that police had made a discovery in Florida's Carlton Reserve.
The source on Thursday insisted that the Laundrie family had been told a campsite had been found.
........"

They found one, they didn't find one...they asked him to help, they didn't ask him to help...? and...who is this "source" close to the Laundrie family?
