A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

The above was well worth watching. Best thing I have seen in all the coverage. Of course, part of that probably is that it is her family speaking but it is clear and makes some great points.

It was both heartbreaking and heartwarming to listen to this family. This is the first program so I imagine the second one will come out a bit later after the show as well.

WFLA is reporting there is the largest contingent yet at Carlton Reserve. A drone is up, legally, watching I guess.

Honestly, I am not getting excited. I can't help but think the entire reserve is just somewhere to search and show they are searching. I don't picture him out there or at least why would he still be if he had been? But then, I don't know. That's just my opinion and I sure am not LE lol.

They are also reporting that North Port Police have confirmed an abandoned vehicle notice was placed on the Mustang on September 14th, time stamped 2:42 p.m. They say the document can be seen at their site (WFLA) and it is heavily redacted. The car was noted at the entry to Mykahatchee (sp?) State Park or something like that.

NOW I think the parents' change of date he went missing makes sense, they found out or knew about his notice or the attorney was presented with it with LE asking...? I don't think cops would tag a car unless they knew it was abandoned overnight or for at least a day would they? So that would mean it was there since the 13th and lo and behold the parents' attorney announced the parents had the date wrong...

This is getting deeper and deeper. How did they know where to go get the vehicle? Did the mom leave it there while the dad waited in the truck to drive her back home and then they just waited a few days to make sure it got tagged and then go get it? I have always believed that when Joe told them they were reporting Gabby missing that they jumped into high gear and Brian boy was long gone by the next day. Now with this car thing, I am heavily leaning toward the parental involvement in the getaway. I don't think they left him somewhere on foot to camp out till this blows over.

I get it. I have always thought the car and parents indicated their involvement and trying to give a "false lead"/trail. From almost day one of hearing it.

I never thought of as you said once her parents said they were going to report her missing, they kicked into high gear. It makes perfect sense. Up until then Brian was fine, her body was not found, no rush although I don't doubt the planning was already going on.

The car was a set up and so was the reserve. Imo. That's not to say he was maybe there and they had someone pick him up (one of them?) at another spot/side of the reserve there or who knows. Or he was NEVER there. I think honestly they hoped the cops would think he committed suicide and give up trying to find him and write him off as dead in that huge swamp/reserve, etc.

My opinion agrees with your opinion about the reserve being a setup. I have a hard time thinking that they would involve a 3rd person to help with the getaway. Can't depend on the 3rd person not to spill the beans at some point either by accident or to save their own rear end. The question everyone was asking was how did he leave the house without being seen which leads to my speculative answer that he left with one parent probably in the truck and was dropped somewhere on 9-10, right after they knew they were reporting her missing. At some point after that both vehicles had to be gone at the same time. Hopefully there is video somewhere that shows a time frame when both vehicles were gone. We don't know that the car was left on 9-13. It could have been left there anytime after the police came to their house on 9-11. I'm remembering that LE said the parents refused to let them speak to him on the 11th and at the time I thought "refused" was an odd choice of words to use.

When they took the Mustang in, I wonder what, if any, info they got from any tracking electronics that may have been in the car. Perhaps they now, or will soon, have enough probable cause to haul in that big red truck and see when and where it's been.

And I wonder how the Laundries feel with their neighbors helping media watching them. I sure wouldn't want to be in their shoes. I do think they may have put themselves there though.
Good question. If I had to guess an answer it would be that they don't give a hoot about their neighbors to begin with and if the tables were turned, they would be selling media space on their lawn too.

And BTW, the Laundries get their mail in the dead of night to avoid being seen but their lawn is going to need to be mowed pretty soon and that's hard to do at night.

Their son put them in a pickle! They should have insisted he call the police when he got home without her, but they didn't!
You know, when they lawyered up it wasn't with a defense attorney, it was with their civil attorney which tells me they had no intention of hiring a defense attorney for the boy. IMO they called Bortolino and he told them to hire a good defense attorney for the boy and have him talk to the police but they chose to help him run instead. They are not smarter than LE. If I were Bortolino I would drop these clients before they throw him under the proverbial bus but maybe if they're charged, they will claim they didn't have the proper representation and were given bad advice.

Yeah, if they thought he was there and worried about him, WHY did they go there and pick up the car and how did they know where the cars was??!!
