A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

As to what wasn't going to add up is the video taken by one of the news reporters of the Mustang in the driveway on Wednesday night 9-15 when the parents said the car was in the Carlton Reserve. That has never added up. Now, if I remember correctly, the police came to their house to talk to Brian and that's when they reported him missing. I do not recall any reference to the Laundries calling them to report him missing. Makes me wonder if this correction now is a move to head off a charge for not telling the truth about this "hiking" trip. That video is pretty hard to dispute.
I do recall hearing it was not the parents who reported him missing now that you mention it... When I first saw this case, I was not up on it as others were and couldn't get up to speed on it all and didn't have the time. I knew there were remarks about the Mustang being in the driveway but never was sure why it was significant as I knew the parents said they found it and took it home or some such... If the dates do not match, it makes perfect sense although I am surprised they did not attempt to change their story sooner...

Everyone seems to agree that they can't be charged with anything up to when Gabby was found at least or he was charged if they assisted him or refuse to talk. However, if they did state something that was a lie, then I would think that is obstruction of justice at least and can be charged...

I don't believe she has been asked by anyone reporting in MSM.
Thanks. I still haven't watched the full uninterrupted "interview" of Cassie but I saw a lot of it in pieces last night. I do recall her saying something like she didn't know he had the van and only found out with the "rest of us" or some such, like on the news or something. That's why I wonder also what date she would have had to know or did know... And if it matches that statement... Maybe it isn't known if she wasn't asked.

Plunder has a video on YT that goes into an FOIA request from KSL for the body cam footage of the female ranger in Moab Utah. It has been requested and refused twice at different times. Kind of interesting and it is pretty clear one exists as the female ranger said she cannot yet bring herself to look at it herself...

It's only a 13 minute video if anyone wants to watch it. I didn't bring it here as I don't want to fill the site with various channel holder videos, some are not real accurate/dcoumented/lots of rumors in cases but this video is pretty verified as to where she has the info from, the radio station, etc.

So just mentioning it as that way people can choose to go watch it if they like and just naming the source of the information. If it is okay to be linked or wanted, let me know it is okay and I will add it. Otherwise just an f/y/i for everyone.

Oh, I forgot to add that KSL also has tried to get reservation dates for the park from the park service, etc. to see what Brian and Gabby's plans were for Yellowstone, info from Moab, etc. in the same video. Quite a lot of info in a short video...

Depending on what he told them when he arrived and what they did, they could be accessories after the fact.

So many questions.....
When Brian flew home to obtain some items and empty and close the storage unit to save money, what were the items he obtained and did he fly with them back to Utah?
Whose items did he obtain, his or Gabby's?
What were the remaining items and who did they belong to?
Where did he put them and where are those remaining items now?
Are any of Gabby's possessions at the Laundrie house now and if so, will they be given to her family?

I wonder if LE has requested surveillance video from the storage unit owner.

I so get what you mean. We learn a bit more and all it brings is more questions. I seriously doubt this was his reason for going home, that he had to empty a unit so they could stay on their trip longer. It may be partial truth but not even sure of that...

Let's say it is true. Was he then going back for them not to come home, i.e., extended trip. She would then be under his total control and away from family and home even longer or maybe he even thought "forever"... What was his plan going home and going back...? He came home not long after a "fight" and went back right before her murder apparently... I don't like that one bit...

He may have told his folks the truth about some or all and very well may not have or none of them are perhaps telling the truth...

I put very little value into his words to his parents or what they or their attorney claim the reasons were for anything... It isn't LE facts.

I can't see what the attachments are. They aren't coming up for me.

I don't tend to believe this man saw Brian. I'm not saying he doesn't believe he did, not sure of that either. In some places it seems to be becoming a fact that "he saw Brian Laundrie" because that's what he says and headlines say. I worry this will have people looking in the wrong place but I guess who knows... All tips I guess need to be checked out but the feds haven't caught him in a white truck based on this tip and he said he notified LE pretty quickly...
Gabby's BFF told LE that she (BFF) believes Laundrie was hiding out and hiking along the Appalachian trail, as he has hiked parts of the trail before and is somewhat familiar with it.

I recall that and I think the trail is a possibility. This though, with him in a truck on a deserted road but headed for California, I don't know. It just doesn't ring true to me. Not saying it couldn't be by any means nor am I saying I am right, who knows... I hope they check out ALL tips.

But if he is on the trail, I pictured him without a vehicle, hiding, camping, etc. and hiking... Not NEAR the trail in a truck...

Random thoughts in no particular order:

--The whole storage unit thing is weird. Why would he spend $ to come back to empty it and what happened to the stuff? Sister said last night it was parents storage unit. So why did Brian come back to empty it? Maybe it was his stuff in it, but what was the urgency to come back and empty it?

--Again, what did he tell his family about Gabby? He flew home for the storage unit by himself, where was Gabby?

--Appalachian trail sighting seems legit, but I wouldn't expect him to be driving a car. But the story he supposedly said about wanting to go back roads to get back to his GF sounds like Brian. But, the guy reporting it (fellow Floridian) looked him up after and said it was him. My sons and I saw a Brian look a like Sunday running errands. One of my sons said, "look it's Brian Laundrie!" It wasn't, he has a common look of many young men.

--After hearing from the Laundrie's attorney almost daily, he has been silent for almost 1 1/2 weeks. Then after Cassie's statement last night, he made a statement that he wasn't her attorney and BTW, the Laundries got date wrong about when Brian went missing. CYA mode for sure.

O/T my sons have no clue who John Walsh is. They have heard of Dog and know he is working on the case, but they ask who is John Walsh? I tell them about America's Most Wanted and they say they never heard of that. OMG!! :)

Brian Laundrie's lawyer says he flew home to Florida 'to empty a storage unit' five days after he and Gabby Petito got into that physical fight in Utah - before REJOINING her two days before her final phone call

  • Attorney Steve Bertolino claimed Laundrie, 23, took a commercial flight from Salt Lake City, Utah to Tampa, Florida, on August 17
  • He returned five days later on August 23 'to rejoin Gabby' on their trip
  • Bertolino said the purpose of the fleeting visit was to pick up items and close the unit because the couple were thinking of 'extending the road trip'
  • The reported flight out of Utah came five days after police in Moab, Utah, were called to a report of a man slapping a woman on August 12
  • Bodycam footage shows Petito telling cops Laundrie hit and cut her 'with his nail'
  • Laundrie's August 23 return came just days before Petito was last seen alive
  • On August 25, she made her last phone call to her mom back in New York
  • Witnesses say they saw 'an incident' with the couple in a restaurant on August 27
  • It is not yet clear when Petito died but her body was found September 19

Brian Laundrie's lawyer has claimed the fugitive flew home to Florida 'to empty a storage unit' five days after he and Gabby Petito got into a physical fight in Utah - before then rejoining his fiancee just two days before she made her final phone call to her family.

Attorney Steve Bertolino told Newsday Tuesday that Laundrie, 23, took a commercial flight from Salt Lake City, Utah to Tampa, Florida, on August 17.

Five days later, on August 23, Laundrie then took a return flight 'to rejoin Gabby' for the remainder of their trip.

Bertolino said the purpose of the fleeting visit was to pick up some items and close the storage unit because the young couple were thinking of 'extending the road trip' which was due to end in Oregon in October.

But the trip was in fact cut short, with Laundrie driving the couple's white campervan back to his family's home in North Port, Florida, on September 1 while Petito's body was discovered in a park in Wyoming over two weeks later on September 19.

Laundrie remains at large with a nationwide manhunt under way for the only person of interest in his fiancee's homicide.

The additional details of the couple's whereabouts - and the fact they separated for five days - raises more questions about what happened on the doomed cross-country trip.

Bertolino said he believed the couple shared the costs for Laundrie to make the detour.

'To my knowledge, Brian and Gabby paid for the flights as they were sharing expenses,' the attorney said.

'Brian flew home to obtain some items and empty and close the storage unit to save money as they contemplated extending the road trip.'

DailyMail.com has reached out to the FBI Denver Office - which is leading the manhunt for Laundrie - to confirm the timeline detailed by Bertolino.

Laundrie's alleged flight back to Florida came just days after the couple were separated by police in Moab, Utah, following a domestic incident.

Bodycam footage from the August 12 encounter reveals a distraught Petito telling cops her fiance had hit her and cut her face by grabbing her 'with his nail' during a fight when he locked her out of their van.

'He like grabbed me with his nail, and I guess that's why it looks, I definitely have a cut right here. I can feel it, when I touch it it burns,' she tells the officer.

The 22-year-old is then seen defending Laundrie saying she 'hit him first', after an officer points out marks on her arms and face.

Police had responded to a 911 call from a bystander who said he had seen a man slapping a woman outside the nearby Mayflower grocery store before driving off in a white van.

Cops determined Petito was the 'primary aggressor' and separated the couple for the night - meaning they are likely to have reunited on August 13.

Body camera video from one Moab officer was released two weeks ago, while Petito was still a missing person and the audio was unclear at times.

Footage from the second officer's body-worn camera was released last week, revealing Petito did admit to her fiancee hitting her.

According to the account given by Laundrie's attorney, it was five days after this police callout that Laundrie left his fiancee in Utah and flew to Florida.

It is not clear if Laundrie stayed at his parents' home in North Port or who he saw during that five-day period.

It is also not clear what Petito did during this timeframe as she stayed back in Utah with the couple's campervan.

In police bodycam footage on August 12, Petito tells the officer she does not usually drive the vehicle.

On August 19, Petito posted two photos on Instagram - an aerial view of the couple's campervan and a photo showing what appears to be the back of Laundrie's head sitting in front of her in the back of the van.

Before her body was found, I saw a comment about him flying to Florida on Twitter. I just regarded it as a rumor.

Are we supposed to really believe the parents all this time had the date wrong?? Both of them? Two of them have the wrong date on a son going MISSING? I do not buy it.

So what are they doing then? Trying to send this in yet another direction, different day, different possibilities as to where he is...?

I think even as likely or maybe more likely is they have realized something was not going to add up to LE OR LE found something that does not fit their story/timeline so they had to change it... Notably, people thought it was bad when they waited how many days to report it and now it is actually one day longer they waited until they reported him missing...

There is some reason the parents needed to change this date, I will bet on it...
I totally agree with you. Something is up with them …..again.

My 30 something daughter had no idea last night who John Walsh was either. I mentioned American's Most Wanted, told her the story of his son years ago, Adam, and she still had no idea. Then when I finally mentioned the show like would put up missing people and wanted posters, etc., it clicked with her finally as something she has maybe seen before...

The storage unit bothers me. It all bothers me. Nothing quite adds up. I had heard I think before that it was allegedly the parents' storage unit. I almost wonder if they were to move out of the house and the unit, he and Gabby... I think there is more to them going on this trip for how long and the van life... I mean the van gave them a place to live and were his parents for instance in favor of this trip and not working, etc... Did they perhaps say, you are moving out then and not leaving your stuff here and coming and going as you please... Just speculation on my part... Total speculation.

Flying back and forth still to me costs far more than just paying a storage unit fee imo. In almost all cases.

I just don't think that sighting is real. The man may think it was him but...

I think Cassie breaking silence and possibly too the Petitos on Dr. Phil shook the family up... And the attorney... And perhaps, just perhaps there is more going on than we know.... With LE and what they are finding and with the family...

Jmo.

Yup. I admit being old. Lol. I haven't seen Dr. Phil yet either. Don't get it on TV, no regular TV. I hope it replays somewhere I can see it. If anyone knows, I'd appreciate a heads up.

Good night. I should be in bed as well. Soon I hope. My cats are wide awake and noisy and bratty.
