A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

I had to go back & read the decision re motion to dismiss hearing quote re petito emotional damage v laundrie case.

Judge says:
"If the facts of this case truly were about silence with no affirmative act by the Laundries, the Court would have resolved this case in the Laundries’ favor on the concept of legal duty."

huh.
The Laundries were absolutely hounded to put out some sort of statement.
They had every right to remain silent. They just had to put up with/ignore the harassment. Keep heads down. Issue a no-statement statement. whatsoever.

Their attorney's JOB was to make that happen. He could walk up to the mike and tell press he's advised his clients to make no statements at this time.
Seems the Laundrie's attorney failed his clients here, issuing any statement whatsoever.

The parents of Gabby Petito have filed an amended complaint against the Moab Police Department and the officers who stopped and questioned her and Brian Laundrie following a domestic violence episode near Arches National Park, but failed to take anyone into custody.

The complaint does not add any causes of action or seek additional relief. However, it includes admissions allegedly made by officer Eric Pratt that he knew Laundrie was a threat, yet still chose to ignore the law, according to the Petito family's attorneys. Also, the department failed to implement the Lethality Assessment Protocol which Moab police said three years earlier that it would be begin using, the lawsuit alleges.

Brian Laundrie's mother has broken her silence on the "burn after reading" letter Gabby Petito's parents are seeking in a Florida lawsuit following their daughter's death at the hands of her former fiancé.

"While I used words that seem to have a connection with Brian's actions and his taking of Gabby's life, I never would have fathomed the events that unfolded months later between Brian and Gabby would reflect the words in my letter," she wrote in an affidavit filed in a Sarasota court Monday.

While it might not have anything to do with her actual death, it does prove that things were not good for quite some time and mom was willing to give him very, very bad advice on how to handle a bad situation.

2024?? May?? We aren't even to May of 2023. I can only guess that talks are going on as I would think the Petitos would have a real problem with it being put out that far...

VENICE, Fla. (WFLA) — Brian Laundrie’s mother wrote a letter to her son that included an offer of baking a cake with a shiv inside to help Brian if he were sent to prison for Gabby Petito’s murder, according to a new court filing by the attorney for Gabby Petito’s parents.

In the court filing in Sarasota County Circuit Court, Pat Reilly, who is representing Joe Petito and Nichole Schmidt in a lawsuit against the Laundries, is arguing for the release of the “burn after reading” letter written by Roberta Laundrie to her son Brian to prove she was allegedly aware of Petito’s murder in August 2021.

“The letter in question, written by Roberta Laundrie to Brian Laundrie references bringing a shovel to help bury a body, and baking a cake with a shiv in it should Brian Laundrie go to prison. A reasonable inference is that the letter was written at a time when Gabrielle Petito was as yet unburied, and Brian Laundrie could go to jail for the crime of murder.”

Judge Danielle Brewer has scheduled a hearing on May 25 to rule on whether the “burn after reading” should be granted to Petito and Schmidt in the discovery process and included in the trial, which is slated for May 2024. Brewer will also rule on Bertolno’s motion to dismiss, which Reilly contends should be denied in part due to the Laundrie’s previous dismissal attempt being rejected.

If they can prove a date that it was written, then that would be everything to me. If prior, in the least, it shows the contempt she had for Gabby. If after....well, ...

I think unless there was a real reason at another time, it is pretty clear this letter related to knowing he murdered Gabby. It fits with the very behavior by this mother/these parents and speculation at the time.

I don't think a shiv in a cake would get him free necessarily imo but my guess is she was saying I will do anything I can for you son, don't worry. I'm not sure where this case will end up legally but I do understand Gabby's parents' reason for it. The money part I go back and forth on but if this mother truly did this and there were a lot of suspicions about all that his parents were doing and some suspecting such as this went beyond okay as to the sh*t of staking out their home and harassing, etc. but it is seeming like much was true that many or most speculated....

She obviously doesn't know that they X-Ray everything brought in for prisoners.
