The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the ongoing search for a missing/endangered 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy who went missing Monday afternoon, and the task force investigating his disappearance is organizing a team of volunteers to start searching for him.

Gannon Stauch was believed to be a runaway after he left his home southeast of Colorado Springs between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on Monday. But as the week progressed, his disappearance was upgraded to a missing/endangered person case.

His stepmother said he left his home on foot to play at a friend’s house down the street on Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies and major crimes detectives had taken “extraordinary steps” to locate the boy, the sheriff’s office said. They were actively searching for evidence and taking witness statements, a sheriff’s office news release issued earlier this week read.

“He’s very young, it’s dark and cold outside and we want to bring Gannon to safety,” the sheriff’s said in a Facebook post earlier this week.

On Thursday afternoon, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and other task force members, as well as Stauch’s parents, hosted a news conference to update the community on his disappearance, discuss the steps being taken in the investigation, and to notify people in the area that they are organizing volunteers to begin a community search effort in coming days.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mitch Mahalko said the sheriff’s office received the investigation on Tuesday afternoon and started doing interviews and collecting video surveillance and talking to neighbors, working to collect new leads.

He said that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and FBI got involved after the case was upgraded to a missing/endangered child case. The FBI’s team specializes in search and rescue and “will be a good partner” in the investigation, Mahalko said.

He said the investigation was active and that authorities were conducting interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence – exhausting every lead they receive.

Mahalko said investigators were looking at “persons of interest” in the case as people who might be able to give them additional information on Stauch’s whereabouts.

He declined to say where authorities had been searching but confirmed that investigators had been in contact with some trash companies in El Paso County and in the Lorson Ranch area.

Kirby stressed that people with tips should report them to their tip line – 719-520-6666 – and not on social media because any tips sent to the sheriff’s office on social media will not be considered.

I am actually getting angry thinking about all of the lies and things she said. Come home for the new Sonic movie, trashed Gannon's real mother, took constant credit for how she supported them and how good she was, that he went to a friend's, etc. And much more. Can't wait for her mug shot to have something to throw darts at...

And had the audacity to say that she cared for the kids because Landen didn't want to!! I am not a mother, but this is hitting my core. Even though I didn't have much hope from the beginning, having it spelled out for me is devastating  .

I had an ex who wasn't the person he pretended to be, and that was devastating to learn. But to have lived with someone who you thought cared and loved your own child and yet could plan and carry out their demise? I can't fathom the pain. Not at all.

Yes, she trashed the mother or tried to throughout. The way Landen comes through, even if there was something not perfect, you can feel her love for that child and see it. She is her boy's champion.

They have something we are unaware of to put the charge at first degree murder and to announce that Gannon is passed/dead basically. It does take one to a high upon hearing of an arrest and a low upon hearing he is gone. I hope those parents have a ton of support right now close to them.

Oh boy. I have not read it yet but it does come from a news site so sharing before I read. I figured they must have more.

Bloody Board and Sock
Stauch added that her husband told her that Gannon’s sock and a bloody 2×4 board were found in the woods near Douglas County.

Stauch explained that her family frequently loaded up boards they didn’t need from their garage into the pickup truck, leftovers from her husband’s woodworking hobby. She claimed that there had been several accidents in the garage, which could have easily accounted for a bloodied board

When asked how the board would have ended up in the woods, Stauch said that things have flown out of the back of the truck before while she was driving. She said the same thing could have happened to the board or Gannon’s sock.

When questioned whether law enforcement specifically told her about the wood or a sock, Stauch said, “LE [law enforcement] have not said one word to me, have not called me.”

Habitual liars will lie about EVERYTHING. So if she lied about one thing, why not cover that lie with another lie?

No kidding. I saw red reading that article. I think LE were smart and just let her talk and they had things put to her by others to see what she would say and she just kept lying and half the time did it publicly and changed stories.

Still think there was something to make her snap. The candle thing or him being sick or soiling himself? I don't know.

Probably a tip over point I agree. But if she chose to get a board, that is pretty extreme and possibly premeditated. I guess we don't know enough. That article sounds like they showed the father blood around the house, that sounds like former incidents to me possibly. Or one really bad incident. That's as far as I can let myself think about it, those poor parents! Jmo.

Sometimes I think it is a sort of 'throw away ' mentality. If you have a difficult (in your opinion) child, just dispose of it! Not my opinion :(
I was a step-mom and it wasn't easy. I decided to love my step children in spite of how difficult it was going to be, and treated them like my own. In fact, I was harder on my own boys! It's not an easy task and people really need to think hard about it before they enter into marriage - and parents need to do whatever they can to keep a pulse on the step parent to be sure things are going the way they should!

I was just going to post her mugshot, GmaBear. You got here first!

Leticia Stauch has several ties to the Grand Strand area, including serving as a teacher. Grand Strand News Alliance partners WPDE also reported Gannon Stauch was from the Horry County area.

According to a Tecia Stauch LinkedIn page, she was a teacher in Horry County from October 2010 to 2015. Horry County Schools spokeswoman Letecia Stauch worked as a para-professional in Horry County schools from November 2010 until 2012. From 2012 to June 2015 she worked as a special education teacher.

Though Stauch also listed working for a Colorado School District though a spokesperson told the Colorado Spring Gazette that despite Stauch listing she worked for the district, she never has.

Stauch also had her teaching license suspended in 2015 after she failed to show for work to start the school year in Marion County. The state school board revoked her license for 180 days, according to court records. Stauch said she didn’t show because of harassment and retaliation related to her husband’s pending military move

I think a person should take the school's word for it over hers no doubt. She hasn't told the truth yet that we know of.

Kudos to you Kimster for stepping up and commiting to them. That's very admirable.
