Girl last seen in Manchester in October 2019; police seek tips from public

Manchester police are seeking tips from the public about the disappearance of a girl not seen in more than two years.

Harmony Montgomery, 7, was last seen in a home in Manchester in October 2019, when she was 5, police said.

Police said they first learned Harmony went missing earlier this week. Chief Allen Aldenberg did not specify who reported the girl missing but said his department has been in touch with multiple family members and will continue to speak with them.

Aldenberg said police are not searching for any adult or vehicle in connection with the case. Investigators are focusing on the whereabouts of Harmony.

"No time is a good time for a child to go missing," Aldenberg said. "I'm begging the community. I don't care if you saw this young girl a year ago and you think it's irrelevant. Call us."

Aldenberg said at a news conference Friday his detectives are working to confirm where Harmony is from and where she went to school before her disappearance.

Harmony is estimated to be approximately 4 feet tall and 50 pounds. Investigators said she has blonde hair, blue eyes and should be wearing glasses.

"We need help," Aldenberg said. "This remains a very active investigation."

I need to watch a recap on YouTube at some point. All I know about the trial I've read via @Summer_Breeze . I'd like to see some of their mannerisms, especially Kayla's.
I felt Kayla truthful over all. She rarely if ever hesitated on an answer and I believe was resigned to the truth as she already is serving time for perjury and knows the consequences of the deal if she fails and also knows she has a deal. She really has no reason to lie as she is already thought of very badly and is already in trouble for lying. She has lied before which doesn't help I guess and one has to wonder how one can fall so far. She is fairly flat much of the time but does start crying when asked about her kids and such and if allowed to see and so on.

I saw that summer found bandero hard to follow. I don't entirely agree. He had maybe three times he seemed to contradict himself BUT he was keen on not being caught in his stuff or lies and defense attorney's questions were meant to throw him off of time frames imo. I found him mostly truthful if a bit defensive and considering the case, the fact he did drugs and has been in trouble, is wariness was understandable but even so he mostly answered without reserve. He did not want to be there and that was easy to tell.

There are a couple of things with him thought that leave questions. For one he had known Kayla for some years and he had only recently met Adam. That was never questioned further by defense or prosecution.... Yet Adam and he were in touch it seemed quite often after he met him. Also, one of the confusing things was he seemed to know the boys a lot for some time and saw them plenty and they waved at him, talked to him, etc. but these boys were something like 11 months and 2 years old so that throws me a bit and he denied going down to the car when they were in their own car in his apartment complex.

As you know, I have no time for such trials but I have invested a lot this week watching it morning and night around work and I have seen the bulk of it so far. It is interesting and worthwhile but details the one day especially were hard. They have witnesses of course that aren't stellar members of society but those know they are in far bigger trouble if they don't tell the truth...

I can't stand the defense attorney. I didn't hate her at first but as time has went on, I don't even want to see or hear her. She is condescending, purposely confusing and more. Typical games.

Trials should be live as I always say AND more than that now we have a defendant who does not have to be present which I ENTIRELY disagree with. Jury should be able to see the man who demanded his own trial but decides not to attend.

Just my meek opinion of course.

3:55 p.m.

Testimony is done for the day.

3:45 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

Smith says Adam Montgomery turned around and approached her car. She says he was enraged. She claims Adam Montgomery reached into her car and twisted her phone out of her hand. She reported the incident to her boss.

3:44 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

Smith says she took Adam Montgomery and Kayla Montgomery to the clinic. She says when they returned them to their Union Street apartment, she gave Kayla Montgomery her phone to call for help. Adam Montgomery was walking away from the car at the time.

3:43 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

Smith says she only saw the two boys. Harmony was not with the family. She’s now getting into a ride she gave to Kayla Montgomery and Adam Montgomery in 2020. She says Kayla Montgomery had a black eye. Smith says it’s a ride she’ll never forget.

3:42 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

Smith says she drove the whole family that day. She took them to the methadone clinic and Manchester. Smith says she stayed in the car with Adam Montgomery and Kayla Montgomery’s two boys while they went into the clinic.

3:41 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

We’re now hearing from Rose Smith. She works for a company that provides non-emergency medical rides. She says she started driving Adam and Kayla in December 12 of 2019.

3:34 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

No questions from the defense for Middleton. He has been excused.

3:33 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

Middleton says he gave the U-Haul to Travis at a gas station and never saw the U-Haul again. He was not the person who returned the U-Haul. Tells prosecutors he did not know Adam or Kayla Montgomery at the time.

3:28 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

The U-Haul was rented on 3/3/2020 with 5,092 miles on the odometer. It was returned on 3/4/2020 with 5,225 miles on the odometer. This testimony is important because prosecutors claim that Adam Montgomery used a U-Haul to take Harmony's remains somewhere in the spring of 2020.

3:17 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

Now on the stand is Brendon Middleton. He is currently an inmate at the Hillsborough House of Corrections. He tells prosecutors that he rented a U-Haul for his friend, Travis Beach in March 2020. The U-Haul was being used to move furniture.

That driver was impactful imo. She was scared of Adam after that.

Middleton is a current inmate. His "gf" or former one also testified today. I found her to seem like someone on drugs or buzzed. But you can't pick your witnesses and she confirmed some things. I have been hit and miss, getting some things done but had the audio going all day. Also haven't caught up on posts here. I have though heard the bulk of the witnesses so far.

Here is my opinion. I think it is proven Harmony died due to Adam (for sure) and Kayla Montgomery. (doing nothing to stop it or get help). Like many online in chats where the case is live thinks she is just as guilty as he and knew, vice versa applies imo. He I have little doubt is Harmony's killer. I don't think she killed her but she helped cover for a long time but has a deal. But even if she did have any part in it, or even do it which I doiubt, he just like vice versa was part of her murder and cover up and sadly this is second degree but happily I think they have more than proved that. I think they have plenty that proves second degree and it is not even over yet.

Witnesses are not all ideal of course. Time alone since she was never reported missing plays in but despite all of that, there is plenty of circumstantial evidence and no sightings of Harmony after a certain date by anyone, a TON of people/witnesses, and whether ideal or not as witnesses, NO ONE saw her after a certain date and she was always in the control of these two and with these TWO "adults".

I believe Kayla to be a messed up individual who is not innocent but got involved in the wrong life, with the wrong man early in life. I believe she was scared, she had two kids of their own he could turn on and I don't doubt on her either, but I also think she was drugging, irresponsible, but very much under his control, temper and abuse. I don't forgive her lack of action but it is he that needs to be put away for good and she should have more time no doubt but she is needed to put him away and I guess her decisions from hereon out will land her in prison or she will make better choices and turn her life around if possible. She has lost her kids and more, not that that excuses HER LACK OF ACTION re Harmony, NOTHING does, NOTHING DOES. When the choice though is one or none, she was NEEDED to help put him away, which hopefully happens or NO ONE would be going away imo.

Sickeningly I do think there is a part of her or all of her that still cares for him. In that sense, I don't trust her. I think she is likely to fall for the same type. She may well punish herself with the wrong choices and cost more children and end up in prison anyhow. That remains to be seen. I won't be surprised if such happens.

To finalize, summarize, Harmony was failed at every level, some worse than others but almost all failures. Kayla should not be popping out any more babies and if and when she gets free in May (IF), despite having to pick up pieces that will not be easy, she'd better darned well do it. I'm not sure she will/can.

There is little doubt in my mind she HELPED him hide and carry this baby around dead but I do think she was stuck with few options/young/but she also made these choices. She should be doing more time and he should be put away for life and in my opinion too bad not first degree and DP, but it's what we have. We need her testimony and all the supporting facts to put him away.

IMO.

7:45 a.m.

Testimony is expected to resume at 9 a.m.

On Thursday, forensic analysis of stained sheetrock was at the center of the some of the testimony.

A DNA analyst testified that he pulled a DNA profile for Harmony Montgomery from that sheetrock.

It was part of a ceiling in a shelter where the Montgomery family stayed after Harmony's death.

Prosecutors allege it's one of the places where Adam Montgomery hid his daughter's body.

"This analysis provides very strong support of a proposition that Harmony Montgomery is a contributor to the DNA profile obtained from the sample," DNA analyst Alan Ackroyd-Isales said.

The defense pushed back.

"You can't conclusively say that Harmony Montgomery is the source of the DNA on the sheet rock or rails, but the probability is very, very high," said defense attorney Caroline Smith.

"That's fair to say," Ackroyd-Isales said.

Well, he admitted guilt to handling a corpse. I would say we can conclusively say that it was Harmony.

From Tim Callery:

Hilbert says her child would play with the Montgomery kids. She says there was only two living there. She says she would also sometimes feed Adam Montgomery, Kayla Montgomery and the kids.

9:47 a.m.

From Tim Callery:

Tarah Hilbert is on the stand now. She is a property manager for a company that owns the Union Street apartment. where the Montgomerys lived.

9:43 a.m.

From Tim Callery:

The defense briefly questions Beach about when he reconnected with Adam Montgomery at the mall. They're clarifying questions about who was with him. Beach says it was Adam Montgomery, Kayla Montgomery and their two sons.

9:41 a.m.

From Tim Callery:

When asked if he ever talked to Kayla Montgomery about the U-Haul, Beach tells the state he wasn't allowed to talk to Kayla Montgomery. The state asks why and Beach says he never asked why he couldn't talk to her.

9:38 a.m.

From Tim Callery:

The prosecutor is now having Beach read Facebook messages between him and Adam Montgomery. He is asking Adam Montgomery where he returned the U-Haul. In one message, Adam Montgomery tells Beach not to message stuff like this on Facebook.

9:29 a.m.

9:24 a.m.

From Tim Callery:

Beach says he didn't have a license at the time so he found someone who could rent Adam Montgomery a U-Haul. He says that person was Brendon Middleton.

9:22 a.m.

From Tim Callery:

Beach says he reconnected with Adam Montgomery when they ran into each other at the Mall of New Hampshire. He says Adam Montgomery later asked him if he could rent a U-Haul truck for him. He says he didn't hesitate and that Adam Montgomery was a friend. He tells prosecutors he knew Adam Montgomery was moving from Union Street.

9:19 a.m.

From Tim Callery:

The first witness today is Travis Beach. His name came up during yesterday's testimony. Brendon Middleton testified that he rented a U-Haul for Beach in 2020. Beach says he has known Adam Montgomery since he was 17 years old.

9:11 a.m.

From Tim Callery:

9:03 a.m.

From Tim Callery:

Giles texted response:

When I came in to talk to you guys there was no mentioned of anything being videoed or anything like that and I'm sorry but I cannot do it I understand if you have to put a warrant out for me but I'm not putting mine and my children's life on the line.

9:01 a.m.

From Tim Callery:

Giles met with the state on Jan. 23 to talk about what trial would be like. She raised concerns about being televised due to a restraining order. She was informed via text that she would not be asked where she lived by either party, but that the cameras could not be turned off.

8:58 a.m.

From Tim Callery:

The state says Giles is a witness to helping the #AdamMontgomery move from the shelter to the family's Union Street apartment. They say she is also a witness to Montgomery's statements during that time and afterwards, and several other pieces of information.

8:57 a.m.

Court officer just escorted a lady in via the side door. Maybe Nicole Giles? Jury still not present. Judge just asked for the courtroom to be cleared and the cameras turned off. No audio or video allowed.

~Edited to add: If it is Nicole Giles, I am glad that the court seems to be taking her safety and security concerns seriously.

12:06 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

It's visibly noticeable that Adam Montgomery is following the other woman extremely closely as she moves around the store. He moves with every minor step she takes. Kayla Montgomery remains at the Eco ATM.

I've lived this trial for the last week catching up or watching in every free moment before or after work. I fail to understand the lack of interest in this case here. It is horrid and triggering but if people ignore such, they don't have a hope of affecting or changing a thing.

No one is yelling about the defendant not having to be present at his own trial. All just accept and let the constant new b.s. become the norm.

Who cares right? Way of the world now I guess.

@Summer_Breeze Great coverage. Thank you.

I did not catch up on the night before yesterday, hardly got to watch yesterday and and have not turned it on today yet so just checked here for updates which you are on top of.

The courtroom has been far from full for Harmony either. It sickens me.

I count on that the missing baby killing Adam Montgomery is going down. It seems more than a few witnesses are scared of him as was his own family imo, and most are to this day. It is something that isn't said but can be picked up on or sure seems to be the case. A lot of the witnesses are not stellar law abiding folk is what I've seen or sensed and more than once was almost forced into a corner to tell the truth or face charges or be ordered to court (Kayla, Bandero, more). The struggle can almost be seen, they tell the truth but are afraid of Adam. Afraid of their own possible charges if they lie too no doubt but conflicting it is fear of Adam Montgomery. He invokes fear and he controls.

And take a look at this this way. He is still controlling things. HE refused to go to court like he has the option and choicse and such was granted. Adam won that one, rules the day, gets his way and still controls the proceeding in a way. People scared to testify, a judge who won't order him there a jury that can't see the defendant they are to find innocent or convict.

He's bad news, even his own family is scared of him. Harmony never had a chance. The people around him didn't and don't if not complying. That is what I see that is largely unsaid.

Kayla's lack of action, choices and more are unforgivable but he is the one that needs to go down and go down hard. and for life. He should have to be there and it be required but I have no doubt for some of these witnesses it is a bit easier that he isn't, even though incarcerated.

He is BAD, BAD, REALLY BAD NEWS.

I'm so sorry Harmony that he was the monster dad you were stuck with.

For sure! I feel bad that she had to come in at all.

@GrandmaBear - I love how passionate you are!

I have to say though, that the Jury trial affords defendants' rights including to confront witnesses against him and to assist with his own defense. That he chooses to forgo these rights and stew in a jail cell, I simply cannot muster beyond a Meh response. It's not that I don't care at all, but I feel it hurts himself more than anyone else in the courtroom.

And I sheepishly am amused by the prosecution team using a photo of Adam and parading it around for identification purposes of the "defendant".

From Tim Callery:

Monday is a holiday. The jury will return at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

2:27 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

The judge is ending proceedings for today. She says the trial is moving faster than expected. She thinks the evidence will be in by the end of next week and we can possibly hear closing arguments by then as well.

2:26 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

For reference: You can view the bodycam footage with audio. News 9 Investigates obtained the video back in October of '22.

2:23 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

Important to note: Only the body cam video is allowed. The judge previously ruled that the jury could not hear the audio from the body camera. The defense questions Stanzel about the location where he was found. He says it's a park where homeless people sleep.

2:22 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

We're now hearing from Manchester Police Detective Craig Stanzel. He is discussing when he found Adam Montgomery sleeping in a car on 12/31/2021 -- the day police announced Harmony's disappearance. The jury is now being shown Stanzel's body cam footage.

2:03 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

Prosecutors are linking the phone to Adam Montgomery by showing the jury that his Facebook account was logged into that device. They showed messaged between Adam Montgomery and Travis Beach. The defense says the evidence does not show the messages were actually written on that phone.

1:49 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

We're now hearing from Manchester Police Det. Louis Krawczyk. He works in the Cyber Crimes Unit. He extracted info from the Samsung cellphone that was pawned at the Eco-ATM.

1:45 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

No questioning from the defense for Bergeron-Rosa. He is excused as a witness.

1:43 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

Bergeron-Rosa says Kelsey Small made the transaction at the Eco-ATM that day. The ATM paid $1.00 for a Samsung phone. Kelsey Small passed away in March 2022. She did not face charges connected to this case.

1:39 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

Bergeron-Rosa also confirms that the three people seen in the Walmart surveillance video on 12/30/31 are Adam Montgomery, Kayla Montgomery and a woman named Kelsey Small.

1:33 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

pipes as evidence in case

WMUR

Here's a look at those pipes. Bergeron-Rosa says there was a forensic anthropologist who was there as the pipes were processed. He says she was needed in the event that investigators found human remains. She would be able to ID if remains were human or not.

1:29 p.m.

From Tim Callery:

Right now: Manchester Police Det. Adam Bergeron-Rosa is testifying about processing pipes that were taken from the Montgomery family's Union Street apartment.

Oh I can see it that way too nad have at times, that he is actually a big chicken and it is his only means of control or a tantrum left. The prosecution having to have him identified by a photo irks me though a bit. And I have to wonder as a juror that it is not explained to or even mentioned what the interpretation would be as to his absence.

I also truly believe and am stating it here to see in the future that WHEN convicted (I am thinking positive), he WILL turn this around and appeal crying the jury wasn't even allowed to see him, his tears, yada yada, That's what goes on these days, all is turned around.

I do have some amusement at times with it and great chat where I watch it but like all trials, and one involving a child, it is a hard one and as always, the victim gets lost in it all even though supposedly about them, it isn't. It is about the stinking defendant.

Yah, I know it is strong but the alternative is to get to where I think many have, it is just the norm and doesn't even affect, not my kid, not my life, don't want to know about it. I hate it but isn't that kidn of attirude how this went on for so long before anyone even knew this child was missing or all the failures that went on? Family (well meaning perhaps), friends, drug friends, shellters, LE responding to a nonrunning or abandoned car, her mom who did finally get the alarm through, CPS, just som many, many, many failures. Wasn't anyone else's problem I guess.

Anyhow, it isn't the end of the world he isn't there and yes, even humorous or a bit nothing depending on how one looks at it but we have had a few others lately and other times and the judge RULES them to get their arse there. This one didn't and I do not think it should become a thing.

How far down the slope are things going to continue to slide? Imo they are almost to the bottom already. Releasing people that should never be released, rights beyond wha those who never offended have, and so much more. It is getting to and I am not kidding, why have courts or try anyone? I am just saying just watch. We never know until too late way past the things that change. Not long ago we were all surprised to find out life isn't life and no longer is their truth in sentencing. And a ton of other things.

So I guess I just mean it may seem minor and even a bit funny and I can see that, and I honestly am happy for witnesses they don't have to see him but maybe some in some cases need that facing the monster down in a courtroom to heal. It is just another thing imo in a long rapid downhill slide changing justice.

Okay. Off my soapbox. No desire today to really watch it or be in here.

Thanks for the updates. I looked at them more than once between catching up wth the actual trial morning and night.

I would add that maybe some want to face their perpetrator and see him where he belongs, in a defendant's chair charged with what he did to them. In shackles where he can't attack them ideally but that too is going by the wayside. Some maybe wait for that day to face the demon in some attempt to heal. A defendant has a right to face their accuser, shouldn't victims of the defendant have the right to face him down if the so choose? Why not?

I get totally that a defendant is not convicted yet but neither are they when denied bond and kept in jail until trial, that results based on the facts and enough evidence to charge and proceed/probable cause.

Is the system perfect? Not by a long shot. Next it will be all should be free until tried. Would I want to be wrongfully charged or some such and be in their place? Of course not. That is where probable cause comes in and what one would hope is a fair system that requires there be enough reason to say we believe this is the person that did this because of this evidence and that evidence and enough evidence.

Even though most, self included, do not think Kayla innocent by a long shot, does almost anyone disbelieve Adam Montgomery killed his daughter?

I say this all the time and hope it is understood, my remarks are not at anyone here, it is at the situation and case, the topic and the system and the rapid slide of it and so on.

Have a good one everyone. Sunny here. Have things to do.
