Deputies searching for pregnant Pierce County woman who disappeared under suspicious circumstances

A Pierce County family is desperate for answers in the search of a missing pregnant woman who seemingly vanished Tuesday morning.

Loved ones say it was the ultimate red flag when Kassanndra Cantrell, 33, failed to show up to her first ultrasound this week, something she’d so been looking forward, something they say she wouldn’t willingly miss.

“This is not normal, she wouldn’t just vanish…I just need her back," said Marie Smith, Cantrell's mother.

It’s been an agonizing four days since Smith last saw her daughter. It was early Tuesday morning when Smith was heading out to work.

"She just said 'have a good day at work' I said 'thank you'. She said 'love you' and I said 'love you'. And that was the last time," said Smith about her last conversation with her daughter.

About an hour later, at 8:45 a.m. a security camera caught her driving away in her 2014 white Mazda sedan from her and mother’s Parkland home. The only plan her mom knew she had that day was at some point to go to the grocery store.

“I don't think that's where she was going when she left. Everything seemed to indicate she was going to see somebody because if she was going to the grocery store she would’ve just put her hair in a ponytail and put on some jeans and headed out, but it was clear she’d taken a shower and gotten dressed. She had taken some extra time, she doesn’t do that just to go grocery shopping," said Smith.

When she didn’t return home later that day or answer any calls, the fear started to sink in. even more so when they discovered her phone was turned off. “She never turns her phone off, and she wouldn’t stop all her social interactions. It doesn’t make any sense, something has happened.”

The nightmare deepened when Cantrell didn’t show up for her very first ultrasound appointment on Wednesday afternoon.

“She wouldn’t have missed it for the world, it doesn’t make any sense for her to be gone at all," said Smith.

Smith said her daughter was about three months pregnant. The father is a friend, and though unexpected, for Cantrell it was the most welcomed surprise.

“When she found out she was thrilled because she wasn’t sure that she'd have a chance to have a baby and so she was really excited, she already picked out names," said Smith.

So there are cliffs, woods and water? The water thought keeps crossing my mind for some reason but I don't have a real reason for that. Probably because of seeing the water on the map.

There is probably a crime scene like we were discussing earlier, we can't be sure but based on what they are doing and saying, it seems likely. So maybe they are going from that evidence to where cameras show travel went next?

Since you know the area, one thought I had is could her car have been left there first? Would it be a likely place for her to park in this dome area and get in his car from there, meaning the first part of whatever happened? Or is it just kind of randomly dumped in the area after?

I highly doubt she would have met him at the Dome area. The dome is like, an event center. They hold concerts, state sporting events, etc. there.
There is a park-and-ride, and several other parking lots, near where her car was found. But it doesn't sound like her car was in any of them. Just on the side of the road. It was definitely dumped there, IMO. There is a light-rail station at the park-and-ride. I've parked there to meet people before and hopped on the train to go downtown. But not randomly on the side of the road.

It also seems really unlikely that he would do something to her at the park. In the middle of the day. It's usually a busy area. Due to COVID, the driving loop around the outside of the park had been closed. It just re-opened to cars the day before she disappeared, 9am-2pm Monday through Friday. (Other roads in the park were open though.)
There is a pretty popular beach down there though. Owen Beach. I don't know. Even on a weekday I just can't see taking the chance to dispose of someone in this park. Doesn't mean he didn't. There are definitely secluded locations in the park and there has been crime there. It would just be a big risk in the middle of the day.

What gorgeous pics. It helps to see the area. In my head, since I can't picture it, I just felt like a city or park is pretty risky, etc. in daylight as you said. I thought her car sounded just kind of randomly dumped or parked not too near anything that made sense (trying to avoid cameras?).

I don't know but with the time they spent in the house I tend to wonder if he was not lured there or killed there... As to what was done with her afterwards would be the question but I would then guess waiting until dark... There were days here weren't there before she was reported missing or the investigation began? She could be anywhere.

I know the last phone pings put her in that area but if she was taken from there and it shut off, etc. at that point, in the coming days, she could be anywhere...

However, if he was trying not to travel or be seen or tracked... In a city, I tend to think of dumpsters or water if near the ocean, bridges, etc.

I don't know but the water keeps standing out to me due to these gorgeous pictures. Yet again, it would have to be somewhere lacking people/witnesses...

there are plenty of these spots..

back in August 2013 I parked on a view spot over the water ... broad daylight..... standing there with my mom and facing the water, about 40ish feet from the car (back to the car) and we were the only people there.

out of a sudden I hear a disturbance behind us... turned around and saw a car tacking off and MY car window smashed in and my purse gone.... oh happiness.... and there are many such spots where it goes steep down to the water and some directly into the water.

so I do have a real bad feeling ... good places to meet up.... get someone killed and dumped.... I really wish I wouldn't have to think that way....

this are some of the areas I am talking about..

I have been there and honestly wouldn't go again... had may own bad experiences... there are 5 miles there from where something or someone can get dropped or hidden.... and it ins't as crowded on more places then it is...

So gorgeous. Finding somewhere quiet on this earth can be so nice but it depends I guess these days who is with or who else knows about it or might be around. These pics are beautiful and it is sad that people have to worry about enjoying them. There are few areas I care to see any longer but that neck of the woods was/is still one.

It really helps to hear another person's perspective, especially when a person does not live in the area, as I don't, to hear yours. I can go back to almost 20 years ago and we found a spot to walk down to and had a beach on one of the Great Lakes all by ourselves... I think it was marked slightly but not a busy area nor road nor near town, etc. and no one there nor was it popular at least on that day. The most private area and beach. As hours went on just kicking back, we realized someone else was nearby in the woods at some point... Nothing happened and that person too perhaps just hoped for no one or was doing whatever but yah...

I wish I did not have to think that way either... In this case, I hate to think she is gone but if she is, he had to put her somewhere...

One thing that sticks out to me in what you are saying and what we know is she WAS probably meeting up with "him"... Her mom even said if she went to the grocery store, she wouldn't have put in the same effort in how she appeared. And if they were meeting, was there a special private spot, etc.? In reading the True Crime blog, they knew each other for years and had just had contact again and well could have had a spot that meant something to them...?

I am sorry you went through that, with your mom no less, by the way. Did they get the person that did that?

There is a lot of information there. They went in with flash bombs based on information they had gotten. My guess is he has multiple weapons. They probably have surveillance footage of him dropping off the car. He claims to have had a vasectomy, but it seems he thought the baby was his. Probably lied about the vasectomy. He's been called a suspect so they must have something on him.

Why they haven't taken cadaver dogs to the park is puzzling.
vasectomy or not, he evidently had a reason to think it was possibly his.

My thoughts too. He may have told women that so he could deny fathering a child, but wouldn't need to wear a condom. DNA would get him though.
Strange though that he would do that to not use a condom but risk having a child? Did he think it would automatically get a woman thinking if pregnant it couldn't be him? I mean seriously she (or anyone) may have only been with him so then it is either an immaculate conception or they would know...?

Not to go too far down that road but he sounds like a real prize (not) and that boggles my mind honestly...

Kassanndra's twin brother and others are organizing a search of Point Defiance park this morning. I can't go this morning but if they're out again this weekend I'll try to go help.
That's awesome that you will go help.

I guess if her twin bro is searching there they must have some thought it is possible. I somewhat thought from her mom's remarks that they maybe had reason to think she isn't there that wasn't given to us general public. Like GPS or surveillance or some such.

In so many areas, LE does not want the general public searching so I never know what to think when they do not have a problem with them doing so and in some cases, they even ask them to. It still surprises me how different areas can be with that.

Looks like more people have the same feeling as I do....I am debating ...... it still panics me out to even be there... just thinking about it... let me know if you go and I might be able to get the courage up.....
