Miramar police said the child, who appears to be 2 to 3 years old, was seen walking near SW 68 Ave and 18th Street on Sunday morning.

Investigators said officers spent hours canvassing the area and knocking on doors, but said no one recognized the toddler.

Officers are asking anyone who recognizes the boy or has any information on who his parents or guardians are to call Miramar police at 954-602-4000.

A toddler who was found wandering around a Florida neighborhood in a soiled diaper and without shoes over the weekend has still not been claimed by a parent or guardian, police said Monday morning.

Authorities said officers have been going door-to-door in a bid to locate someone who may know the toddler or his parents are.

She told the station that aside from his diaper being soiled, the toddler looked like he was in good health.

In an update Monday morning, police said: 'His family has NOT been located. Officers spent hours canvassing the area, knocking on doors, speaking w/ neighbors.

'No one recognizes the child,' police said.

This is from yesterday. Not really anything new. They seem to have a specific area to search. I hope they had the area blocked off before otherwise they're looking through MONTHS of stuff.

Because the contents of the dumpsters had likely been dumped by the time investigators took them, agents are now searching the landfill. The FBI has not confirmed what they are looking for at Monarch Hill at 2700 Wiles Road, but it is clear from Sky 10 where they are focusing their attention — they have set up tents and more than a dozen investigators in protective gear are honing in on a specific tract of land.

Her father, Curtis Cavett, told NBC 6 on Friday that he was aware that meant authorities were likely now searching for his daughter's body, but said he's still hoping she'll be found alive.

"A body recovery search, that’s when I get to worrying a little bit more. My mind begins to worry a little bit more, let me put it that way, but I still have hope. I still have hope," Curtis Cavett said. "Until I can actually get some type of definitive proof that she’s no longer with us I’m going to remain confident that she’ll be found."

Ryan remains behind bars. Curtis Cavett believes he knows more about his daughter's disappearance.

“I would like for him to speak. Say something, you know something, you know what you did. Come forward. Either way you’re not getting out of jail so you might as well say what you have to say," he said. "Stop making this harder on everyone, especially yourself. You’re not going anywhere so either way you go, you’re done. So give it up."

“Every day is different. Sometimes I have my moments, but I know the FBI and the government has spent a lot of money on this search and they’re racking up high dollars for this so I really appreciated them just as well," Curtis Cavett said. "I have my moments when I just break down and sometimes I have to be strong just to know that she’ll be okay hopefully."

Yeah, I really don't understand why they waited this long.

I was watching The Missing, a Youtube channel that covers missing people both old and new and keeps some in the news that fall out of the news and this was one of the names across the screen, among many others, so I wanted to come bump this case... It has gotten very quiet although the suspected perp thank goodness is in custody in this one, just not for murder...

Leila Cavett was reported missing after her two-year-old son, Kamdyn Cavett, was found wandering around alone outside an apartment complex in Miramar, Florida on July 26, 2020. The 21-year-old Dawsonville, Georgia mother was last seen in Hollywood, Florida, on July 25, 2020, driving a white mid-to-late 90s Chevy Silverado 3500 pickup truck with a red tailgate and a “Baby on Board” sign on the passenger window. On July 28, Leila’s pickup truck was found abandoned in a Walmart parking lot in Hollywood, two miles from where her son had been found the day before. In August, federal agents arrested Shannon Demar Ryan in Florida and charged him with kidnapping in connection to Leila’s disappearance. Shortly before Ryan’s arrest, he posted a video online discussing how he met up with Leila at a RaceTrac gas station in Hollywood on July 25 to buy her truck before her disappearance. According to the arrest affidavit provided to Dateline, Ryan told investigators he paid $3,000 to Leila for her truck and the three of them left in his 2004 Gold Lexus ES 330 to spend the day at Ft. Lauderdale beach, leaving the truck behind. When they returned, he parked at the gas pumps at RaceTrac and told investigators that Leila and her son left in a dark sedan with several unknown men. He stated it was the last time he saw her. According to the affidavit, law enforcement reviewed the security footage from the RaceTrac gas station, but it did not show Ryan’s car at the pumps where he described it, nor did it show L.C. (Leila) leaving in a dark sedan. Investigators say a car resembling Ryan’s was spotted on security video in front of the apartment complex in Miramar just minutes before Leila’s son was found. On August 15, law enforcement officials searched Ryan’s Lexus and discovered a half-empty container of all-purpose cleaner with bleach, several black trash bags and a white powdery substance. U.S. Magistrate Judge Lurana S. Snow has ordered that Ryan should be kept in custody until his trial. In October, the FBI in Miami searched the Monarch Hill Landfill in Pompano Beach, but did not release further details in the investigation, or how they were able to zero in on the landfill. “The FBI continues to actively pursue every lead related to this investigation,” the department said in a statement. “We are still seeking information about Leila Cavett’s disappearance.” Leila is described as being 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing about 110 pounds. She has brown, shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. She has a tattoo that reads “Kamdyn” on her right arm and a small tattoo of a Christian fish symbol on her right wrist. The case has been turned over to the FBI. Anyone who may have information on Leila’s whereabouts is asked to call FBI Miami at 800-CALL-FBI or go to FBI.GOV/TIPS.

Ryan is being held at the Broward County Jail. He is charged with kidnapping. The hearing determined that Ryan will be held in pretrial detention until the case can go before a federal grand jury.

*(per federal court records the case is waiting to be presented to a grand jury for indictment; also, per the court records this is a heavy circumstantial case which could prove difficult to prosecute)

Happy he won't be out on the streets but the remark about "difficult to prosecute" is worrisome.

Self-described ‘witch’ faces judge today in missing mom case

A self-described “witch” will face a judge Friday, months after he was arrested on charges of kidnapping Leila Cavett, the mom who vanished from South Florida and hasn’t been seen since.

Ryan, arrested in August, on Friday will appear in court for his arraignment on a federal kidnapping charge, for which he faces 20 years to life if found guilty.

I sure wish they had him on murder and wish they could find her.

It will be interesting to see what evidence they allow at a potential trial.

The evidence tying him to K's kidnapping is extremely circumstantial, if I'm remembering correctly. They can easily prove he was in the area at the time, but they don't have him on video with or dropping off K in the area.

BUT, if they're allowed to bring up that he is a POI in the presumed murder of Leila, that makes it more convincing. I'm sure the defense attorney will fight against allowing that in, though.

I am hopeful they have more than we know but I don't have any reason to think they do. Lots of surveillance video at Walmart and the gas station. We have only seen clips of it but hopefully it shows more than we know. Video of him near where K was abandoned, etc. Her clothing and I think toys found in the dumpster but he will probably try to put that down to cleaning the truck. I can't recall all but didn't they find a few things he bought like duct tape or bleach or something...?

Here is the transcript dated August 21, 2020 that was unsealed in October. It's a long read however explains the 'basic' facts that were presented to the Judge to deny bond for the POI.

*(This document is not published anywhere in MSM probably due to the high costs associated with Pacer access).

Self-described ‘witch’ faces new charges in missing-mom case

A self-described “witch” who has been locked away on federal charges since August now faces a new state charge in Broward County.

Shannon Ryan, the 40-year-old self-proclaimed witch who was implicated in the disappearance of still-missing mom Leila Cavett, faces a state child neglect charge. Ryan was being held in the Broward Main Jail on Wednesday.

The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the legal case against Ryan, who was supposed to be arraigned Monday. For reasons that are not entirely clear, a judge dismissed the federal complaint against him on Wednesday.

But he did not walk away a free man.

Ryan was booked into the Broward County jail on Wednesday. His arrest paperwork initially suggested he was under a U.S. Marshall’s hold, indicating he may face legal trouble in another state. Later Wednesday, a charge of child neglect appeared online.

The criminal investigation against him is ongoing, a spokeswoman for the Broward County State Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.https://jadserve.postrelease.com/tr...A&ntv_r=http://www.nativo.com/about/adchoices

Hmm. Confusing. The federal complaint gets dismissed why...

The order of dismissal filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida does not state why the federal charge was dropped.

Hector Romero, the public defender in the case, said at a hearing on Thursday that the case against Ryan was purely circumstantial.

Ryan remains in the Broward County Jail.

Second degree? I wonder if they think they got into a fight when they were discussing the sale of the truck?
