LIBBY GERMAN & ABBY WILLIAMS: Indiana vs. Richard Allen for 2017 murder of two Delphi girls *GUILTY*

On February 14, 2017, the bodies of Abigail Williams and Liberty German were discovered near the Monon High Bridge Trail, which is part of the Delphi Historic Trails in Delphi, Indiana, United States, after the young girls had disappeared from the same trail the previous day. The murders have received significant media coverage because a photo and audio recording of an individual believed to be the girls' murderer was found on German's smartphone. Despite the audio and video recordings of the suspect that have been circulated and the more than 26,000 tips that police have received, no arrest in the case has been made.[1][2][3]

Police have not publicly stated nor released details of how the girls were murdered.[6] As early as February 15, 2017, Indiana State Police began circulating a still image of an individual reportedly seen on the Monon High Bridge Trail near where the two friends were slain; the grainy photograph appearing to capture a Caucasian male, with hands in pockets, walking on the rail bridge, head down, toward the girls.[4] A few days later, the person in the photograph was named the prime suspect in the double-homicide.[5]

On February 22, law enforcement released an audio recording where the voice of the assailant,[7] though in some degree muffled, is heard to say, "Down the hill." It was at this news conference that officials credited the source of the audio and imagery to German's smartphone, and, further, regarded her as a hero for having had the uncanny foresight and fortitude to record the exchange in secret. Police indicated that additional evidence from the phone had been secured, but that they did not release it so as not to "compromise any future trial." By this time, the reward offered in the case was set at $41,000.[5]

Why was there nothing about the geofence data re phones in the area? Did they not cover that in the trial at all? Dulin took RA's IMEI phone number in his interview.

Day 17. Defence rests. Gull mentions some witnesses are not ready yet so i guess they could be rebuttal witnesses. As we thought, RA is not testifying. Not sure about his wife. Can P call her as a rebuttal witness?
Gull is worried about the uncomfortable court chairs for the closing statements. A bit late to worry about that now. Thats all folks !!!

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Wednesday is Day 17 in the trial of Delphi Murders suspect Richard Allen at the Carroll County Courthouse in Delphi.
Allen, 52, is charged with murder and murder while committing or attempting to commit kidnapping in the deaths of 13-year-old Abigail “Abby” Williams and 14-year-old Liberty “Libby” German. The girls’ bodies were found near the Monon High Bridge near Delphi on Feb. 14, 2017, a day after they went missing.
Allen was first investigated in 2017 and again in October 2022. After a second police interview, he was taken into custody.
The trial began Oct. 18 and was expected to continue through mid-November. Originally, 16 Allen County residents sat as the jury on the case, but one juror was dismissed on Oct. 25.
Cameras are not allowed in the courtroom

9:36 a.m.: Defense rests their case

News 8’s Kyla Russell confirmed the defense rested their case Wednesday morning.
The defense only took six days to call forward over 20 witnesses to present their case, nearly half as many as the prosecution.
At 9:07 a.m., just after the jury entered the courtroom, Russell reports defense attorney Brad Rozzi immediately said, “Your Honor, the defense rests.”
State prosecutor Nick McLeland requested a sidebar with Special Judge Fran Gull. Gull said several witnesses weren’t available yet so she dismissed the jury for a quick break.
She then said she wanted to set jury instructions with the attorneys, including relating to the defendant not testifying and prior inconsistent statements.
It was noted that Richard Allen will not testify.
The defense left to discuss the instructions in private, and returned to the courtroom around 9:50 a.m. The courtroom awaited their return in total silence.
McLeland chimed in and said the state had no objections to the instruction as proposed, but defense attorney Andrew Baldwin drew attention to instruction regarding if Richard Allen testified or not. The pool reporter noted that instructions about jurors not drawing inferences out of absence of testimony is different from passages he’d seen before but he “accepts the modified language.”
Rozzi asked for time until the afternoon to “finalize instructions relating to jurors judging credibility of Allen’s incriminating statements,” whether they were voluntary or involuntary.
Gull said she planned to give the jurors instructions before closing statements and will limit the argument lengths to 2- 2.5 hours. “Two hours is a long time for folks to be sitting in these really uncomfortable chairs,” Gull said. The judge also told the attorneys if they go over the time, she “will kindly ask them to stop.”
Court was in recess at 10 a.m.
The next step in the trial is closing arguments from the prosecution and defense, then it will turn to the jury to make final decisions.

9 a.m.: Court in session for Wednesday

not sure i entirely get what Wilber and Harshman were rebutting?

it is clear Martin was put up to show that RA was fine when he confessed, etc. And effective too imo.

Gulls remarks about the uncomfortable chairs makes absolutely no sense as this will be no longer of a day than they've had and maybe even a bit shorter UNLESS she plans on giving them no breaks for over five hours or in between closing arguments? Or maybe the D asked for six hours each for closings lol and Gull was explaining that's too long? Lol.

I am predicting a guilty verdict by Friday pm. I cannot see the jury wanting another weekend in a hotel.
I'm torn. Generally I predict pretty quick verdicts but in this one, not so sure. I think they'll want to show they gave some thought and weight to all but I could see a full day and a partial, or a BIT longer, not much.

But on the other hand, since I recently learned this jury has been able to discuss all along as the trial has went on, so LONG as all 15 are present, who knows, they may already be well on their way and have discussed all testimony each day. I mean they could have if they wanted to got together each night for an hour, I mean what else is there to do although they also, or some, may have preferred a break from the day of court and testimony, so hard to say... IF they have been hashing through it all along, they are well ahead on reaching a verdict already.

I get your point of them wanting to be home but think it unlikely until we see when they get this to begin with, that they will be home this weekend. Are they going to deliberate Saturdays as court was held Saturdays? Are they going to plan on doing so on Sunday too, but at their hotel, to expedite it? I'd say off premises is up to them...

I'd say IF they get the case not too late on Thursday and go all day Friday, there is a POSSIBILITY of a verdict before the weekend. If not, I'd say Monday. I don't see it going three full days and some but if so, that would be the limit before I'd start thinking there was a problem.

Also even if they have been discussing all along, they haven't gotten the deliberation instructions yet and those are still to be given. Also things about all the counts and if they can find guilty on some and not others, and all sorts of things... I think it will come in on the first full day or second full day at some time on one of those days. And that likely would be Friday or Monday as I wouldn't think they'd call everyone in on the weekend to hear it, but who knows, if Saturday, Gull might... Depends on if they are deliberating those days and court remains open on Saturday, etc...

Haven't seen this covered yet, hopefully more will be known on that shortly.

My post 9091 has pretty much what happened yesterday, if you need to catch up on that.

I just noticed Roundpeg has said they have rested so need to catch up on today. Too busy following the election news today to check on here.
I do feel pretty caught up at the moment. I watched the one show I think I linked above where they had the guest on as the main reporters were covering the election, and then I managed to listen to all of Tom's and felt pretty darned caught up overall. Now I'm looking at today's but knew some things before I left for work (that the D rested) and saw a bit on breaks today too. Now just reading here, and some I had already seen or heard elsewhere. So I'm up to speed, I just haven't been able to go back over the last few days and read everone's comments or posts and probably won't get back to doing that or working backwards. I do worry if I am close to losing a day and then feel on the next if I don't get through all of that, I will be two behind but I did catch up. Thank you for referring me to your post to do so. I may even have read that, the days have been long and many in this trial, not sure.

I haven't watched much of it. Didn't even check results until this morning because I recall too many past elections where doing that all night was not worth it and irritating actually. The people have spoken I'd say and pretty clearly. Took senate and congress too. And the market has spoken. Just facts, not opinion.

I did notice you weren't around as much, was worried something might be wrong. Glad that wasn't the case since you've been pretty on in this case and trial regularly as most of us have.

Think I already responded to this one but am now confused as it is after the one I just responded to and thought I was going in order lol. Regardless, gave my opinion of it and reasons. I think Friday or Monday if it is handed to them not too late Thursday. That's my best guess anyhow.

Why was there nothing about the geofence data re phones in the area? Did they not cover that in the trial at all? Dulin took RA's IMEI phone number in his interview.
Who knows? Maybe for a number of reasons. First, maybe both sides agreed to not go there on either side for some reason. Second, maybe it was the F B I's report? Third, coverage by traditional news was VERY POOR especially in the first week or two, and I was constantly mad when I'd watch Tom and realize all I'd READ had so much left out and I think there was more than most heard re phone stuff if I recall but not sure any of it was geofencing. Neither side seemed to want to go near such or decided not to go there anyhow is how it seems though as I dont' recall anything about it either.... Things are hashed out with the judge before trials by both sides a to what will come in what can or cannot be said and so on and most often don't hear what such is. They also stipulate to many things as they can agree on ahead of time.

I'd also state how all the hype about the confessions with, as @Cousin Dupree was waiting for, that he had WRONG facts in like he shot the girls, never came in either and the D did not bring those in, well why NOT? Personally, I think the answer is obvious. They had the inmate on their witness list. They also had KK on it, never saw him either. They never put up Kathy Allen and my guess is even though they were careful as heck to keep the scope very narrow with defense witnesses (and the reasons there are obvious as well and I hope the jury understands what this shows), but were just NOT going to take a chance if a door got opened with her and the P could then come through it. OR she'd get upset and say something and then a door could open as well...

I think there's a few other things I can't think of right now we expected from both sides that we never saw...
