Maya “May” Millete, 39, was last seen Thursday evening in her Chula Vista home near the San Miguel Ranch area, according to her loved ones. Family and friends said her car is still at her home and her phone has been going to voicemail since her disappearance.

Hospitals, jails and morgues have been contacted by the woman’s kin, but they said she has not been found at any of those locations.

Maya and Larry Millete are high school sweethearts married for 21 years with three children — ages 4, 9, and 11.

Maya has been missing from her Chula Vista home since last week. Millete says they had argued the night before.

"We had problems this year, up and downs," Millete told ABC 10News.

He said his wife has left before for the night to blow off steam, but he became worried when she didn't show up for their daughter's birthday on Sunday.

"If she didn't have her car, a friend would have to pick her up. That's the only reason I was like, 'maybe she's wine tasting or hiking with a friend,'" says Millete.

Maya works as a defense contractor at Naval Base San Diego and didn't show up for work on Monday.

"I called her boss, she didn't even log in. And that's the other alarming part, because work for her is like a party ... that's her outlet," Millete says.

Millete says he will continue to search, anxiously waiting.

The judge also ordered Millete's attorney not to release any addresses or phone numbers of witnesses or victims to her client.

*(this statement from the Judge is very telling, imo)
TY! for keeping us updated with this case.

Call her an unlikely hero, but Drouaillet has juggled the police investigation, her family, the community and very much missing her sister for a year now.

“It is very hard," she expressed. "It's one year of searching and one year of not having her around and one year of pain for the whole family."

This Christmas was the first Millete’s children had to spend without their mother.

“For the sake of the rest of the kids, we tried to be merry. I’m sure that was not easy. No, it was really hard but we tried,” Drouaillet said.

Maya Millete went missing from her home in Chula Vista one year ago, on the evening of January 7, 2021. Her husband has been charged with murder but the mother of three has not been found.

After 12 months of searching and keeping the case in the public spotlight, Maya’s sister and brother-in-law – Maricris and Richard Drouaillet – have not given up hope that Maya’s remains can be located.

“We are still looking for my sister. It’s been a year and we still want to bring her home,” said Maricris Drouaillet.

The couple remembers the day Maya did not come home to her family.
“Your mind is saying, no this is not happening, that denial. You know it’s like, she's not missing. She'll come home,” recalled her sister.

They also remember going to Maya’s house three days later.

“I just kept looking at their front door and hoping she'll walk in, she'll walk in and everything will be okay. But that never happened,” said Maricris.

It was the weekend Maya missed her oldest daughter's birthday.

“At the end of the day on that Sunday, it's her daughter's birthday. And we got a cake for her. We were singing happy birthday for her and we were trying to be happy for her daughter, but at the same time so worried that she's not walking in that door,” said Maricris.

I applaud the family on continuing to search. I do hope they have the kind of faith to get them through if they never find her--I do hope they do but we all know many aren't found. He clearly is never going to tell and there is a pretty big window of time the day he likely did this. My heart will always go out to this family. I hope he is convicted and the process goes smoothly and starts moving along and that they are working to get her kids with them and doing all possible that way because they are with his parents unfortunately.

Full 48 Hours episode.

Thank you for posting this. Nothing new was divulged however I was glad to see MSM is still keeping her name & face visible.

I'm wondering what a preliminary examination is? Do they mean preliminary hearing? Or is this about his mental state or something...? I did read the article but it didn't really say. Not asking for an answer, just remarking on it. I'm sure we will come to find out.

Guardianship hearing to be held for Maya Millete's 3 children

Parents of Larry Millete file civil rights lawsuit against Chula Vista Police

The parents of Larry Millete have filed a lawsuit against Chula Vista Police and the City of Chula Vista alleging violation of civil rights and intentional infliction of mental distress.

In the lawsuit, the Milletes claim police left the family traumatized when they executed a search warrant at the home on May 7, 2021.

“The police officers just forced their way in the plaintiffs' grand daughters bedroom pointing their guns at them. Plaintiffs' grandchildren were in shock and terror,” the lawsuit alleges.

They also claim police picked up Millete’s kids from school without consent in September.

“When they went to pick up their grand daughters, plaintiffs were worried even more, because they were not at the usual pick-up spot. Plaintiffs went to the office to find out where they were,” the lawsuit continues. “Plaintiffs were told by the clerk that about 9:00 a.m. police took them. The CCV police officers did not return the three children until 5:30 p.m.”

Case Against Husband of Missing May ‘Maya’ Millete Halted As Attorney Questions Competence

The court suspended criminal proceedings Thursday in the case of a Chula Vista man accused of killing his wife, who remains missing more than 18 months after her disappearance.

The defense attorney for Larry Millete, 40, expressed doubts regarding her client’s competency to stand trial, leading San Diego Superior Court Judge Dwayne K. Moring to call for an evaluation of the defendant.

A doctor will examine Millete to determine his mental fitness. A defendant is deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial if they are unable to understand the nature of the criminal proceedings or assist their attorney in their defense.

The ruling places the criminal case in the suspected death of May “Maya” Millete, missing since Jan. 7, 2021, in limbo.

A hearing regarding his competency is set for Aug. 29 at the downtown San Diego courthouse.

so he's suddenly possibly incompetent? Why wasn't this done closer to the time after his arrest?

Husband of Missing May ‘Maya’ Millete Must Appear for Deposition, Judge Rules

A man accused of murdering his wife, a Chula Vista woman who remains missing more than 18 months after disappearing from her home, must appear for a deposition in a case that will decide the guardianship of his three children, a judge ruled Wednesday.

The order from San Diego Superior Court Judge Julia Kelety approves a request from the sister of May “Maya” Millete to compel Larry Millete to appear for an interview in the case to decide who will be granted guardianship of his children, ages 12, 11 and 5.

Any such deposition will have to wait until Millete is deemed mentally competent.

Earlier this year, his defense attorney declared a doubt regarding Millete’s competency to stand trial in the murder case and criminal proceedings have been suspended. A defendant is deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial if they are unable to understand the nature of the criminal proceedings or assist their attorney in their defense.

Millete was set to be evaluated by a doctor to determine whether he is fit to stand trial, but that evaluation has not yet occurred, according to Scott Finkbeiner, an attorney representing May Millete’s sister, Maracris Drouaillet.

Finkbeiner told the judge on Wednesday, “Clearly, I’m not going to take a deposition of someone who’s an incompetent witness.”

A hearing regarding his competency is set for Aug. 29 at the downtown San Diego courthouse.

NOTHING about Larry even hints at mental incompetency. Same old games with the system. Disgusting.
