OR MICHAEL BRYSON: Missing from Hobo Camp, Lane Co, OR - 5 Aug 2020 - Age 27

DORENA, Ore. -- Search efforts have grown to find 27-year-old Michael Bryson who went missing early Wednesday morning.

Bryson was camping at the Hobo Camp Campground with friends last week when he wandered away from the site Wednesday morning and that was the last time he was seen.

The search is not isolated to just the campground and surrounding areas. Friends have deployed into cities all over western Oregon looking for any leads that could point them to where he might be.

His family said the longest they've ever gone without hearing from him is two days.

"It's very rare that five days in he would not have reached out to mom, dad, or sister," his uncle said.

The effort to find Bryson has grown beyond just those who knew him.

A facebook group with more than 2,000 members is dedicated to finding the young man.

The man's dad said Bryson doesn't know a stranger. He said his son was kind and friendly to everyone he met. He said he hopes that's the energy that brings him home.

A $10,000 reward is available for any information leading to his discovery, all which was donated to fuel efforts to find him.

I thought a whistle was part of the "10 essentials" that are recommended for everyone to carry when adventuring outdoors. Turns out it's not actually part of the official list but I do know that a lot of people carry one, including myself. I took my nephews (age 6 & 7) backpacking for the first time last year. I gave them a big, bright orange, LOUD whistle to wear around their neck. Had to explain to them that they were to stay with me at all times, and the whistle was not a toy. But if for some reason something happened and they couldn't find me, they should stay in one place and blow their whistle.

In relation to this case, unfortunately even if Michael had packed a whistle he probably wouldn't have had it on his person when walking away from camp. :(

Updated Ten Essential Systems
  1. Navigation: map, compass, altimeter, GPS device, personal locator beacon (PLB) or satellite messenger
  2. Headlamp: plus extra batteries
  3. Sun protection: sunglasses, sun-protective clothes and sunscreen
  4. First aid: including foot care and insect repellent (as needed)
  5. Knife: plus a gear repair kit
  6. Fire: matches, lighter, tinder and/or stove
  7. Shelter: carried at all times (can be a light emergency bivy)
  8. Extra food: Beyond the minimum expectation
  9. Extra water: Beyond the minimum expectation
  10. Extra clothes: Beyond the minimum expectation
This is great information! I have a few things in my car in case I ever broke down and had to wait a while, but I think I'm going to add to it from this list. Thank you!

HARRISBURG, Ore. – Exactly two weeks after 27-year-old Michael Bryson went missing, his family has not given up hope for his return.

A Circle of Hope Vigil is planned for Wednesday night at 7:30 in Harrisburg. It will be at the Harrisburg Riverfront Park at the end of Smith Street.

"Every prayer that has been said for our family -- we have received. It has given us the strength to get up every day and search with no clues," said Parrish Bryson, Michael's father.

Parrish said the vigil was not a celebration of Michael's life, but a message to his son that he is deeply loved and deeply missed.

Going to share this from the official Let's find Michael Bryson FB page. They are looking for as many searchers and help packing up camp, etc. for one last push and search tomorrow. This brings tears to me and I don't even know him nor the area. I can't imagine what it does to his parents, or has done to them throughout for that matter. Anyhow this is a post I think worth sharing.

Good Morning Everyone! I’m baaaaack so strap in cuz here we go!
The last 17 days have been nothing short of a rollercoaster. My family, and new extended family, have felt more, cried more, and loved more in these last two weeks than ever in our lives.
My love, respect and eternal gratitude goes out to about 99% of the almost 10,000 people in this group! You all have been amazing! Whether you’ve been in the forest or in your computer/phone you have joined a community of hope and restored the idea of what community should be.
I know a lot of you in this worldwide circle of hope cannot be present, but your hopes and prayers have been heard just the same. You have given faith to the broken and hope to the wounded.
My family will never be able to repay or thank you all enough for the immense effort that has been put in to finding Michael. That being said I come to you with this message.
Tomorrow Sunday August 23rd will mark day 18, and our last majorly organized day in the woods. This search has been long and grueling but you tireless men and women have helped keep it going.
I am asking for one final push to find Michael.
I am asking that every able bodied person who is available come to camp and check in to help us in our final hour. If you can walk and search, that’s amazing! If you want to be there to be with the family and show your support, that is equally as awesome. We have been in that campsite for over two weeks and there will be a lot to do to help bring Tina and Parrish back off that mountain. Things will need packed up and cleaned, camp will need cleaned, emotional support will be needed.
Tomorrow is our last big day folks. We have the space to do it, we have the people to do it. LETS FILL THE MOUNTAIN WITH HOPE!!! And not only bring Michael home tomorrow, but lift up his family so they can come home too!
Like I said Any and all available able bodied people. Even if it’s to help pick up trash, hand out waters, give hugs. Bring your families, your friends, bring everyone you know. Lawn chairs, bbqs, swimming clothes, whatever you need. Check in will start at 10am.
You all saw the circle of hope gathering in Harrisburg, lets take the hope to the mountains, let’s take that hope to my family and help them through this last push!!
Let’s bring them all home!!!
#wearecomingforyoumichael
#fillthemoutainswithhope
#bringthemhome
I am so thankful for all of you! Each and every one. Though we may come off the mountain, we will never give up, we will never lose hope, and we WILL find Michael!
And as always a special thanks to our amazing admin team for keeping this page running as smoothly as possible. Jack Gridiron Heather Hess Rachel Eck Magnuson Sid Yardley Anna Brandt Cody Leble and our moderators, you are ALL rockstars!!
****for those of you who don’t know where basecamp is***

Just thought I would mention, not going to share the posts from the page, that I looked just a bit earlier but did not read all posts today but read enough just a bit ago to know today had thousands in donations come in to help the family with the private investigator and more and in very short order. Sooo heartwarming to read and see. I still hope they find him in this last push on searching and, if not, use the PI and use the money for other assistance to get to the truth...

And I can promise you that every dime is going to the search for Michael Bryson. I don't usually donate because I don't know where the money's going, but I did in this case.

For some reason, I have no doubt of that in this case either. Like you, I don't donate and basically never to a GFM account. It isn't that there are not cases that I feel the tug to donate to, but I want to be able to actually place it in the right person's hand so to speak and know they saw it and received it.

In this case one can just tell it is going to the right place, I feel that, and it is rare I am that certain.

Not that I'm aware of. They broke up camp and went home. Parrish asked people in the community to hug them when we see them and I think that's really neat! It's like he knew ahead of time that we wouldn't know how to react.

That is sweet, but not the best idea with COVID.

I have a sinking feeling that this will end up being a cold case. :sigh:

In the last podcast was it I think Parrish said they have prayed Covid out of the camp, the prayers have eradicated any fear of Covid in the search for Michael.... So yes, give a hug... I am guessing their fear and need for their son and hugs and support to get them through is bigger than their fear of Covid. It stood out to me his saying that... Another thing on it did as well...

He said they prayed Covid out of the camp at the vigil, too. I think that if you're looking for your lost child, nothing will stop you! The good news is that Covid cases are way down in this area, so perhaps they did pray it out. :D

I hope so and I can believe it. Sometimes I think you do have a point that you decide what matters more and in their case, finding him and getting some human hugs and support so very much needed I would think take precedence to no end over anything else in life.

Any movement? I really think he's not even in the area. I hate to say this, but I think he's buried somewhere miles from where they're looking. :sigh:
I honestly do not think he is either. I sure don't know but I tend to think there is a vehicle involved and he was moved. Not claiming I am right though, just what I am thinking.

ETA: I just pray the family gets him back and gets some answers.

Just thought I would mention that I haven't looked much at the FB page in the last day or two due to life things here but have been doing so tonight some. It is still very active, lots of support, ideas, and great donations at the pizza place and more. I think I saw one post that the PI commented on as well. I doubt I will ever read them all or be able to but lots of hope out there yet, prayers and support. And I continue to pray as well.

Sometimes I think it is time for a different interest. So heartbreaking these cases are and I came to them because of that heartbreak in our life. If someone knows something in this case and lets this family suffer like this, $$@#%! them (those are my words--not anyone else's and I take responsibility for them).
