OR MICHAEL BRYSON: Missing from Hobo Camp, Lane Co, OR - 5 Aug 2020 - Age 27

DORENA, Ore. -- Search efforts have grown to find 27-year-old Michael Bryson who went missing early Wednesday morning.

Bryson was camping at the Hobo Camp Campground with friends last week when he wandered away from the site Wednesday morning and that was the last time he was seen.

The search is not isolated to just the campground and surrounding areas. Friends have deployed into cities all over western Oregon looking for any leads that could point them to where he might be.

His family said the longest they've ever gone without hearing from him is two days.

"It's very rare that five days in he would not have reached out to mom, dad, or sister," his uncle said.

The effort to find Bryson has grown beyond just those who knew him.

A facebook group with more than 2,000 members is dedicated to finding the young man.

The man's dad said Bryson doesn't know a stranger. He said his son was kind and friendly to everyone he met. He said he hopes that's the energy that brings him home.

A $10,000 reward is available for any information leading to his discovery, all which was donated to fuel efforts to find him.

Sometimes I think it is time for a different interest. So heartbreaking these cases are and I came to them because of that heartbreak in our life. If someone knows something in this case and lets this family suffer like this, $$@#%! them (those are my words--not anyone else's and I take responsibility for them).

Michael Bryson Slideshow

I knew I'd cry if I saw that slideshow, especially if there was a picture of Cub scouts on it. And there was. And I did.

I bet you did. Especially knowing him and the family and when younger too. Don't know how the family gets through, they have to be handling so much emotion, contacts, information, hope,, searches and anguish. :( I'm a stranger and it breaks my heart.

The one of him near the gazebo at what appears to be a wedding was also hard to see. We were gathered there for him just over a week ago.

I watched that on one person's coverage, there were others and I did not look at all of them. Looks like a beautiful spot in your area.. I hope they get an answer and the sooner the better. The not knowing just in itself has to be something else to go through.

We're having a can drive to raise more money for searching. there's going to be pickups in Eugene, Springfield, and Harrisburg. I think there might be one in Albany but I'm not sure. I'll post more information as the time draws near. It's going to be in September.
Haven't looked today but last I saw, I saw talks of a can drive. I also saw donations being talked to get Parrish a drone (I gather he has flied the other guy's a few times), a heat seeking device for the first guy's drone, money for the PI, etc. People are continuing to be very supportive, it's heartwarming. What is a can drive, do you mean empty aluminum ones?

Yes, aluminum cans. We get 10 cents per can or plastic bottle in Oregon. 👍

If people who were there are claiming to not have been there, there's your focus. JMO
Yes, and I'm sure detectives feel the same way. We don't really know about what's going on behind the scene at LCSO. If they are telling the family, the family isn't sharing it. But, I doubt they're releasing a lot of information while they're working on their investigation.

Parents fear the worst six weeks after son Michael Bryson vanished from Oregon campground

Six weeks have passed since Parrish and Tina Bryson’s son went missing from a campground in Oregon and they fear something terrible has happened to him.

“He did not just disappear into thin air,” Michael’s father told Dateline. “We need to bring Michael home. Whatever the outcome is, a grieving family needs closure and people will rally around them to help get that closure.”

“We know he was up there Monday and Tuesday and that the DJ at this party, that was actually a rave, invited him up on stage to do a set,” Parrish Bryson told Dateline. “But by the next morning, he was gone.”

For days, hundreds of volunteers showed up to scour miles of heavily-wooded wilderness in the area. They searched on foot, on horseback and with drones. But there was no trace of Michael.

Parrish Bryson told Dateline they never got a straight answer from the partygoers about Michael and added that he believes they know more than they are letting on.

“The stories given by some of the people at the party are inconsistent,” Parrish said. “And most of those people left the day Michael went missing, and continued to hold raves and parties.”

He added that while many people left the campgrounds, there were a few friends and several strangers who dedicated their time and energy to the search.

“We stayed at the campgrounds for 19 days looking for our son,” Parrish said. “And we’re truly grateful for those who stayed and helped.”

On the second day of Michael’s disappearance, a few of his friends from home his parents to offer $5,000 toward the reward. When Michael’s father mentioned this to a family friend, the friend responded, “If kids can do it, I can do it.”

“That’s how we have a $10,000 reward to offer for information,” Parrish said. “And that explains the heart of Michael.”

Michael’s parents both describe their son the same way.

“He has a big heart - and it’s always for other people,” Parrish said. He told Dateline that Michael had previously traveled twice to Africa on mission trips and came back with an urge to move there and continue to help others. To remember his time there, he got a tattoo of shaking hands with the words, “Stay strong, my brother.”

Parrish said his son had just been getting his life back together after hitting a rough spot with drugs. Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Michael had been working at a local bar and grill. He told his parents he was interested in studying to become an electrician.

But for years, his passion was music. He was often invited to DJ sets at parties and raves across the state -- including where he was last seen at the Hobo Camp Campground.

“That’s the hard part… we were really seeing a passionate change. And now… this,” Parrish said. “And he would never just leave. Even in his toughest times, he would always contact us. The idea that he would just disappear is unheard of.”

Michael’s parents told Dateline that they want to believe their son is still alive, but after six weeks of searching and no answers, they fear the worst.

“We’ve done everything we could possibly do and now we’re just spinning our wheels,” Parrish said. “We feel like we’re beating our head against the wall. Our hope now is that someone will come forward with information.”

Detective Smith told Dateline that Michael’s disappearance is still an ongoing, active investigation and that they are doing everything they can to bring him home. They urge anyone with information to call the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.

I don't think it's going to be an episode. Just part of their "Missing in America" feature. Could be wrong though.
It's great it got on Dateline. His tattoos are so distinctive that if for some reason he is alive and somewhere else, the more people that see the case and his tats, the more likely someone will know of him and/or recall him. Sadly though, I don't think he is, I think he would have made contact by now with his family.

While I'm thrilled that nationwide newscasters are picking up Michael's story, it's also surreal at the same time. We just want to find him! We want to find him so his mama knows what happened. We want to find him so his dad can stop feeling helpless. We want to find him so his sister can have some peace.

Let's find Michael Bryson!
