OR MICHAEL BRYSON: Missing from Hobo Camp, Lane Co, OR - 5 Aug 2020 - Age 27

DORENA, Ore. -- Search efforts have grown to find 27-year-old Michael Bryson who went missing early Wednesday morning.

Bryson was camping at the Hobo Camp Campground with friends last week when he wandered away from the site Wednesday morning and that was the last time he was seen.


The search is not isolated to just the campground and surrounding areas. Friends have deployed into cities all over western Oregon looking for any leads that could point them to where he might be.

His family said the longest they've ever gone without hearing from him is two days.

"It's very rare that five days in he would not have reached out to mom, dad, or sister," his uncle said.

The effort to find Bryson has grown beyond just those who knew him.

A facebook group with more than 2,000 members is dedicated to finding the young man.

The man's dad said Bryson doesn't know a stranger. He said his son was kind and friendly to everyone he met. He said he hopes that's the energy that brings him home.

A $10,000 reward is available for any information leading to his discovery, all which was donated to fuel efforts to find him.

9. Chaos Will Ensue
Interview with Bree, who was at the party and awake at 4am. Knew Michael but weren't close. She got there around midnight on the 5th. She did see Michael when she got there. He seemed high, thought he was on Molly. She was up all night (high on molly and acid), didn't go to bed until the sun was coming up. Saw Michael again around 3:00 am. One of the twins did come over at one point and ask if anyone had seen Michael, but it didn't seem too concerning. She walked onto the bus at one point. One came back and asked about Michael again, asking for a flashlight etc. Gave the same story that Michael just walked off the bus upset and they can't find him. She says they did walk around with lights looking for Michael, calling his name. She thinks the puddling accusation is absurd. She isn't aware of anyone that had liquid acid. She thinks that any accident would have been handled appropriately. Also thinks it doesn't make sense for him to have made it very far on his own on foot. She didn't notice any vehicles going up or down the road. Once Ben woke up (around noon) there was more panic. Same twin said that Michael had run out of his mental health medication recently, but Michael's family said he hadn't been taking meds for years. He did owe Hunter $400. Rumor that he has "lost a shipment of K" and that's why someone was mad at him and he owed money. She does think it's an option that he left. She does not believe the names that keep coming up would be capable of intentionally harming Michael. She doesn't think there's a chance of mending things between the family group and the friends/campers group. Too much harassment and accusations.
She thinks the investigation from Brett Surplus (from the last 2 interviews) is nothing of significance.
Her opinion is that he may have stumbled across the wrong people. Nobody at that specific party but someone in the area.

I don't recall on first reading a lot of things the part about the money but it does seem to come up in these videos. Maybe it was mentioned and I forget. It seems to be a bit well known among these various party goers about Michael having money, owing money, etc... I don't know that it means anything but it just kind of sticks out to me...

“On Monday we got a call from an individual who spotted something on the other side of creek on Brice Creek Rd, a mile west of Hobo camp. LCSO and SAR were notified, upon arriving they were able to collect some of the items Michael was wearing when he was last seen. They asked us to inform the public to stay out of the area while they conducted a few more days of searching. After combing through the area, SAR didn’t find anymore clues.”

I would think this area was searched and especially if they were found along a road, so were they there are along or planted. Hopefully this leads to some answers. Not great at this, but trying to link a map.

If it was placed there either at the time or later, someone would to have had to keep the clothing, taken it off of him or he left without the clothing on and left it in the bus and someone placed it there... It will be interesting to hear if this area was searched and whether more than once, etc.

I was wondering if you would know. When I zoomed out on the map, this would be the direction if one was heading towards the nearest town wouldn't it? Or even hitching his way home...? Whether by car or on foot...

There are several drugs that are very popular at rave scenes that will do this. Ecstasy is one.

So I read through the 300+ comments on the post Michael's dad made about the "items Michael was wearing" being located.

The items were found on the "other side of the creek". Which creek specifically, I don't know? I assume Brice Creek but there are several right there, and without an exact location I can't say. But they don't believe anything was IN the creek / floated to this location. (It's also my impression that this creek, especially in August, would not have been deep enough to "go for a swim" but I could be wrong on that. If anyone knows otherwise please correct me.)

We also don't know what was found. They can't / won't say at this time. "items Michael was wearing" could have just been his two Crocs. Not necessarily ALL of his clothing, and not necessarily anything he may have intentionally taken off for whatever reason.

Spring and summer is when the greenery, shrubs, etc. are most full. Now that it's fall and heading into winter, some of this foliage is lessening. In this area, it's not going to be drastic, as a lot of it sticks around throughout the year. But even minor changes could have led to things being spotted when they weren't before.

Brett Surplus (the "controversial" PI) stated "we have are own theories how and when they were put there". Then later Michael's dad says "We haven’t accused anyone of planting items."


In my OPINION, if he was murdered and dumped, everything would be found together, or at least in very close proximity. This makes me think, even more so, that he DID start walking back up that road. I don't know how many of you have been on a search. But things are missed. ALL THE TIME. Even when dogs are involved. I am not going to assume that just because nothing was found for 4 months that it was planted there.

Just speaking for myself, I don't have an opinion yet, I can still see either thing. He could have had someone go after him if he took off, pick him up, etc. It wouldn't be the first time there was ever a murder and clothing was found nearby or a ways away. He also could have taken whatever clothing it was off himself and be somewhere in the area and died from something (but who knows what?) and no one was involved but they have not found him yet. It really depends on what the clothing is and where and how it was found and I guess whether they find him.

The only bright side I can see is this is the first thing this poor family has had of any sign of him at all or a chance there may come answers. At least if legitimate and not planted, they have a general direction now...

It's amazing here what the first hard freeze reveals to things that were lost in summer's prime.

Hoping that this find will bring some progress, bodies are often found in areas previously searched (sometimes multiple times), dogs, drones and searchers are not infallible. The circumstances of his disappearance are quite murky because everybody seems to be so anxious to cover their own butt.

The reason I'm curious about the water is because there were a lot of searchers out there back in August and there would have been an odor if he was deceased anywhere near the article of clothing. Could he have gone in the creek? was it a Sandy Creek or a Rocky Creek? If it was a Sandy Creek, did he walk down it because he was feeling warm? Maybe he took his shoes off? These are all just wild assumptions because we don't even know what they found.

These are all just wild assumptions because we don't even know what they found.

i would have thought the same thing until a local case of mine that we were discussing on the old site. She went missing in early summer(very late spring?), a few days later her car was found, searches were done. She was found right after our first hard freeze very near where some major road construction was going on during the time she had to have been there. The guys were parking their cars daily not far from where she was found.
