This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

Prosecutors Detail How Son's Cell Phone Video Allegedly Places Alex Murdaugh at Murder Scene​

Wednesday afternoon, Prosecutor Creighton Waters told jurors that cellphone evidence will play a vital role in the trial — and will prove that Murdaugh, 54, was present at the scene of the murders.


Specifically, Waters claimed that Paul Murdaugh had sent a cellphone video to a friend at 8:44:55 on the evening of June 7, 2021. That video, taken near the dog kennels on the family's 1,100-acre hunting ranch, picked up the voices of Paul, Maggie and Alex Murdaugh. Three minutes later, Paul Murdaugh's cell phone was locked and wasn't used again that night.


According to Waters, the video is significant because Alex Murdaugh had previously denied being near the dog kennels — which appears to be directly contradicted by the video. But the defense says that he prosecution's timeline is incorrect, and that Paul and Maggie were killed sometime after Alex Murdaugh had left the scene....

I listened to the testimony today simply to educate myself on why the State is pushing to have the motive behind Paul & Maggie's murders be a financial one. The Judge still hasn't made a determination on what the jury will be allowed to consider which I now can appreciate. My concern is that there will be too much focus on the financial aspect rather the actual murders for the jury. MOO

There was no financial motive for the murders though. I could understand how stress could have tipped him over the edge though.

I'm pretty sure he was sure that Maggie would find out about it AND would get sympathy for the deaths of his family over his financial crimes. We see it all the time where people kill others when they are about to find out lies of the other and that was the motive. His secrets coming out were a major motive.

Also the trial for Paul's case was coming up the next week and ak his financial crimes were going to be public because part of the outcome related to his finances. In not sure if Maggie was intended or collateral damage/ witness.
