PAUL & MAGGIE MURDAUGH: South Carolina vs. Alex Murdaugh for Double Homicide of wife & son *GUILTY*

This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

Yeah he likely ran money through Eddie and received cash but all of it? And if all of it, did he spend all of it? And on what? Are their assets to show for it? Another hidden account? A Swiss bank account? A safety deposit box? I just mean how far were they able to follow it and did the Forge account empty each time after each theft, etc. I think we will be learning more I would think. And yeah, probably the dirty banker assisted...

Don't get me wrong, supporting his family and their lifestyle probably could take a lot of it. I'm sure Maggie spent, Buster spent, Paul spent and Alex certainly spent BUT there would be a trail if paying bills and lifestyle with the funds... Boats, cars, houses but he also MADE money...

I mean he took that money in the one case where he claimed to his law firm the other attorney was holding the funds in the case and it was almost instantly gone or so it sounds. To WHERE? His law firm felt he may have been funneling funds to have funds to pay his part of the boat settlement which the attorney for the victims told him would be like $10 million from his personal funds is what he wanted to see paid. IF he was doing something like that then the money is somewhere. If he was not Alex had a money drain somewhere. Blackmail of him by someone? Or was he paying someone off for something? Etc.

Lots unknown here but they have to have somewhat of a trail until the trail stops. Not sure if I believe Cousin Eddie was all of it but may have been but no way do I believe Alex gave all the money to Eddie and received none and again these were massive amounts and where IS it all or where did it GO?

I hope we do find out more as other cases start moving...
I think nobody in that family was ever told "no" and they just spent and spent and spent. I am sure he paid for "favors", too. Probably to many, many people. Blackmail also comes to mind. I'm just satisfied that his love for the best and newest toys are what sank him in the end.

Love of toys and lifestyle and playing the big shot but also his being used to being bullet proof and his dad stepping in and his family name working, etc. And then as it all builds over years and years because he never likely did know how to make ends meet or live as an adult, and is doing things he has to repay to keep away being found out that only risk him being found out--and as he gets bolder and used to getting out of things, the acts get bigger but then at a point because it WAS catching up with him, the also become more desperate until he finally really pushes it all too far and then his choices are downright dumb and obvious and desperate, faked murder, faked suicide. faked repayment of money saying it was always in the trust fund with the other atty. etc. Imo.

I agree.

Attorneys representing the family of a slain Hampton County teen say that state police have unlocked some key clues that may help them unravel an eight-year-old murder mystery.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) reopened the cold case of Stephen Smith, 19 at the time of his death, and is now combing over key pieces of evidence with fresh eyes and new technological methods — including the young victim's cell phone and iPad tablet, said Eric Bland with the Bland Richter LLP law firm. representing the Smith family.

"SLED has his cell phone and they have cracked it," Bland told The Hampton County Guardian Thursday," and they have the tablet and are working on cracking it."

Meanwhile, other, possibly key pieces of evidence, including a rape kit, remain unaccounted for.

Wow. I think it very likely this boy called someone for help after running out of gas, or even people during the evening, etc. and it has been some time ago but may have keys to locations, times, etc.
HOPEFULLY this will be key.

South Carolina authorities have zeroed in on two persons of interest in the 2015 homicide of Stephen Smith, who was found dead in the middle of the road miles from Alex Murdaugh's former hunting estate, according to a bombshell new report from FitsNews.

Rumors have swirled that the Murdaughs were somehow involved in the 19-year-old's July 2015 slaying, and the name of the once-powerful legal dynasty is referenced dozens of times in the original highway patrol report.

But the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has identified Patrick Wilson and Shawn Connelly as persons of interest — neither of whom are Murdaughs, according to the local news site.

I just hope the family finds justice, no matter who did it. I also hope that these new POIs aren't being set up by the Murdaughs.

A lot of this rings bells for me, things that were hinted at or talked of here and there before that I'd forgotten. It was rumored it was several people, along with Buster, a car full so to speak. Whether he is involved or not remains to be seen and maybe he wasn't, but there are takeaways here that I feel are absolutes;

That pathologist Erin Presnell should have long been out of a job and worse. If she is not, WHY NOT?

I have memories of the Craigslist thing and his calling a person that I only remember now seeing it mentioned, etc. I don't know for the life of me where I heard it.

I also remember Presnell being confronted or asked by an LE person about her findings and she was nasty and refused to answer or some such, etc. I believe the person tried to do something about it and also had info maybe on Buster as well and I believe he was like conveniently let go for speaking out. I MAY be mixing up two things/people, unsure...

Regardless if nothing else, this is evidence that the ruling in the pathologist's case and overall conclusion was ********. It even sounds like it may have been an intentional run down, not a hit and run, etc.

I had not seen this news about the two suspects/POIs until I came here to post this, just having seen it. Pretty interesting on its face too even if it seems minor. How do you mix up a WHITE GOLF SHIRT with a black T-shirt...? WTH were they pulling here and for WHO?

We have Buster's uncle and dad on the scene or immediately trying to contact Stephen's family...

This was a small area and if one or another knew about Smith's Craigslist ad, one can probably figure many did. Kids don't realize how not private some things are at such an age imo.

I think more is going to come of this... For many months too, no hint SLED or anyone was even thinking Alex was involved in his wife and son's murders...

Not saying Buster is involved but am saying for one, what a screwed up investigation, and for another, not so sure we are done hearing it all yet by a long shot...

Not a Cuomo fan. Not a Geragos fan. I go back and forth on News Nation at times. However, this is interesting. This rings bells and the other guy I think it was Prosecutor Ehrenberger still talks of a Murdaugh connection even and calls it squirrely or suspect or some such. Yet Geragos tells Cuomo in response to a question it is time they quit tying this case to Murdaugh in the news. The suspects were tied in various legal things with the Murdaughs. And it was Randy Murdaugh who told the one guy's stepfather to contact police re his stepson and Stephen Smith.... Hokey... Per Prosecutor Ehrenberger.

It is only 4 minutes and is worth a watch to hear the things including the Murdaugh connections...

So there are two suspects now or POIs...

I do think this deserves a thread, I don't think this case is going to quiet although can't guarantee how much MSM is going to report on it but that's true in a lot of cases.

I heard that last night or saw it in a headline on a YT live but I went in after it started and that wasn't what they were talking about so wasn't sure it was confirmed or not. I wanted to share it but didn't have a news link and didn't get around to looking.

I'm happy Stephen's family and this case is now getting the attention it should have AND the investigation it should have, hopefully, etc. and people are paying attention.

well i'm playing defense opening while getting ready for work. not going to do play by plays on it. doing his best i guess with what it is. making points on jury questionnaires and people's opinions and how she is evil and insanity defense is a game, etc. to get out of things. etc. etc. and how he can't quit, doesn't have that choice and what happened to Gannon is terrible. oh now Paul Revere. Bill of rights, things that matter, etc.

people deciding due to media prior to hearing a shred of evidence.

whatever.

all would be true IF she was insane. and people HAVE heard shreds of evidence prior to trial mr. defense atty.

isn't the media, isn't FB, etc. someone should have told his client then when she was talking to and on all LOL.

he is saying may as well be devil himself in juror's eyes, some jurors won't look at him, he can see it in their eyes, etc., etc. Judging the jury???

Sick of this already. Yeah, some points are true IF Letecia were insane. We shall see, fine.

It will come down to insanity... Well yeah, as that's your/her defense.
Are you referring to Letecia Stauch?

Dr. Kinsey told News 4 he feels optimistic about the case. He wants to help in any way he can to let Stephen rest and his family get answers.

He's already started working on the case- including spending last Saturday in the area where Stephen's body was found in Hampton County.

"I walked 2.8 miles one way, 2.6 miles the other way, I re-photographed, actually found some pinpoints on map. I even spoke with some people. Got some information," Kinsey said.

Kinsey said being at the scene gives him perspective.

"It's got to be something that I experience with my senses. I see it, I smell it, I hear it," he said.

Kinsey said he went in every direction possible and logged all of his steps. He used chalk to mark important areas like where Stephen was found and where his car was.

I remain happy for his mother and family. I can only imagine how hopeful they now feel and supported as they SHOULD have all along. Instead they had years of the opposite. It won't bring him back but they like all deserve answers and justice and dam* the people who for some reason, and I can only see corrupt ones in this matter, took that from them or tried to. I don't believe this was just botched, sloppy or they just didn't care...

Although on the face of it, it appears it may not relate to any Murdaugh now, who else would have been likely to be able to put a "fix" in on this? Would he do such for someone else...? He and his brother were around and "in" this... Meaning Alex and his brother...

Even though it is News Nation who isn't always what I'd call accurate, this is short and pretty good news. Apparently the situation is good as to obtaining all they needed from the exhumed body for another autopsy. Worth a watch. Oh and it is re Stephen Smith.
