PAUL & MAGGIE MURDAUGH: South Carolina vs. Alex Murdaugh for Double Homicide of wife & son *GUILTY*

This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

Yeah that's a bit interesting. They can read letters to my knowledge but they're not discoverable I guess...? Can't make copies if something wrong is in them...?

In the Arbery case, I think it was Greg McMichael that wrote a letter that got him in hot water. My memory on it is vague but I think he was trying to tell someone what to say in testimony or some such. So such can come out... Or maybe it came out from the other party, I can't quite recall. I think though the jail staff read it and reported it...

Alex is still trying to maneuver and cover and I'd bet on it. His only private route would be through someone like his atty. I would imagine. Tell Buster this, tell so and so that...

I'm not real sure Buster can visit until he is fully processed and those things are set up...?
Something tells me they just ratted themselves out with the letters, too, as in communicating through the attorney since mail that goes through proper channels is reviewed.

The article said they are communicating by letter.

Regarding not trying both the financial fraud and murders together would be like not trying the life insurance frauds and murders together in the Daybell case IMO. Unless they are in different states like one of the murders in the Daybell case, I suppose.
Letters sent through the mail system are monitored so not much difference than being recorded.

Well they seem to say or believe the media can't access it or anyone doing a FOIA. Probably because the letter ends up in the hands of the recipient. Even if jail/prison can monitor maybe there is no record of such and it would only be the word of someone who read it against their word?

I know here they sometimes copy them because they have come out in trial before. Not sure if that is a state by state thing though.

It's really and odd thing to have said to the news quite honestly. Maybe Buster wants nothing to do with him so there are no calls to or from him and he doesn't want media and the public to know so he claims they write letters.

USPS is monitored so that would quash their excuse for no phone calls because they were monitored.
I know it is monitored, that's what I've been talking about, so unsure it wouldn't be able to be obtained.

But boy am I missing you or not tracking today. At least with your posts lol.

IS it said in the article that the attorney is getting the letters back and forth? I don't remember reading that. I also wouldn't be too sure his attorney would be visiting him very often, most don't. Maybe on occasion to discuss appeal but wouldn't even be sure of that or need to do so, they can file that on their own and mostly keep him informed.

They claim he isn't phoning because calls are monitored but in the same breath they are saying they communicate through letters, which if sent through the mail would be monitored. The only way the letters wouldn't be monitored would be through the attorney, which he is not supposed to do, therefore outing himself.

That's true if the letters weren't sent by mail and I don't think it said whether they were, or if they are not sent through someone else somehow. I get it would seem they must be through the attorneys due to the remarks of things being monitored, not private, etc. but still they don't say so.

They aren't going to say so because they would be admitting wrong doing but logic says probably so.

If Buster and Alex are communicating in written letters via their attorney then would they be protected ? I think letters from prisoners are monitored/read but maybe not if they go via an attorney perhaps.

ETA just catching up - I see this is what you have been discussing. I'm late to the party.
