I think what surprised me most about this case is that Suzanne was having an affair and told no one in her circle. My best guess is that she feared Barry finding out about it. He never knew though, right? As far as anyone knows, anyway.
It appears that way. That she had a reason to be scared. That no one else heard or saw of Barry. Things she felt she couldn't tell anyone or face repercussions. That's how it seems to me.

My boss sold her Ford SUV a few years back and this random man called her and asked her if she still had the SUV's manual. He said he bought it from the dealer and read on the computer storage where she went each day and was able to determine that this must be her place of employment, so that's how he found her.

I'm still creeped out by that!

She called the place where she traded it in and they said they always clear out the devices and must have missed that one. :panic:
That is a good reason why when you do get rid of a vehicle that has GPS, you should clear it out before getting rid of it.

BARRY MORPHEW MURDER HEARINGS CONTINUE AUG. 23

Preliminary hearings on the Suzanne Morphew murder case, concerning her husband Barry Morphew are set to continue on Monday, with hearings scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. Aug. 23 and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24.

Morphew is facing five charges:

Count 1: Murder in the First Degree – between and including May 9 and May 10, 2020, Morphew deliberately and with intent caused the death of his wife Suzanne Morphew.

Count 2: Tampering with a deceased human body – That between May 9 and May 10, 2020 he disposed of the body or parts of a human body or human remains

Count 3: Tampering with physical evidence – That between May 9, 2020 and March 4, 2021 he destroyed, mutilated, or concealed physical evidence that tied him to the crime.

Count 4: Possession of a dangerous weapon — That between May 9, 2020 and March 4, 2021, he possessed a short rifle in violation of Section 18-12-102(3), C.R.S.

Count 5: Attempt to influence a public servant — That between May 10 2020 and May 5, 2021, Morphew attempted to influence public servants regarding their investigation of the case: Damon Brown, Lamine Mulenax, Robin Burgess. Alexander Walker, Joseph Cahill, Derek Graham, Kenneth Harris, and Jonathan Grusing.

During the first two days of the pretrial hearing (Aug. 9 and 10) in District Court, the audience heard testimony from witnesses who painted a picture of a disturbed marriage with trust unraveling; a relationship with financial strains, emotional abuse, and apparent infidelity on both sides of the relationship.

Witnesses testified that Suzanne had written a list of grievances against her husband, and had shared her thoughts with close friends and her sister. They confirmed that the couple’s two grown daughters were aware of the stress in the relationship and that Barry would pull the daughters into their arguments and attempt to get them on his side.

It was revealed that Suzanne was recovering from cancer and had recently worked only briefly as a teacher, but her husband held the threat of loss of medical coverage over her head as a threat to prevent her from leaving him.

Grusing testified that an examination of cell phone GPS coordinates showed that on May 9, 2020, Barry’s phone was recorded circling their rural home several times, as if he were chasing something, or someone. While their rural neighbors heard nothing, Barry claimed he’d been “shooting chipmunks.”

DNA linked to sex assaults found in missing woman’s car

Male DNA that corresponds with partial profiles found in three unsolved sexual assault cases was found in the car of a missing Colorado woman whose husband is charged with killing her, an investigator testified Tuesday.

The partial DNA profile created from DNA left on Suzanne Morphew’s glovebox matched profiles developed in sexual assault cases in Chicago, Phoenix and Tempe, Arizona, Colorado Bureau of Investigation agent Joseph Cahill said, The Denver Post reported. DNA from Barry Morphew was not found in the DNA sample, his lawyers said, KUSA-TV reported.

Court: Unknown DNA found on Suzanne Morphew’s bike amid her disappearance
During the final day of preliminary hearings in Chaffee County, the defense questioned an FBI agent who said unknown DNA was found on Suzanne Morphew's bike.

Unknown DNA was found on Suzanne's bike grips and handlebars. It did not match Barry, although some of Barry's DNA was found on the bike's seat. An expert testified Monday that the way the bike was found indicated that someone had pushed the bike without riding it. It was found the day Suzanne was reported missing in rough terrain just off of a Chaffee County road not far from the Morphew home.

There was also DNA found on Suzanne's glovebox in her car. When investigators ran that DNA through a database (CODIS), it was a partial match to three suspects in different sex assault cases: one out of Tempe and another out of Chicago. Those cases are all unsolved.

so who did Barry let borrow the bike???

Not sure about the truck, but his phone was.

In the early-morning hours of May 10, a few hours before Barry Morphew left for Broomfield around 5 a.m., his truck doors opened and closed between 3:25 a.m. and 3:51 a.m., signifying someone was in the truck. Around the same time, his phone’s location moved to near where his wife’s bicycle would later be found, Grusing said — though he added that service in the area meant the information was inconclusive. Suzanne Morphew’s phone, which has still not been found, last pinged at 4:23 a.m., he added.

I wonder if the unknown DNA linked to the sexual assault cases may perhaps belong to the man she was having an affair with?

I'm still absolutely convinced this was Barry, but that could certainly throw a wrench in the prosecution. Or even if it's some "unknown suspect". Some random man linked to sexual assaults has DNA in her car? WHAT? If we didn't know much about Barry this other person would certainly be near the top of the suspect list, I think.

Has it been stated anywhere if Barry was also having an affair? If so, please link. tia
As far as I know, it's only been said that Suzanne THOUGHT he was having an affair (hence the spy pen). He apparently had been to the "Ashley Madison" site (a dating site for people who are in relationships). But it was never proven if he acted on anything, as far as I've read.

On the stand on Tuesday, FBI agent Kenneth Harris mentioned a search of Barry Morphew’s phone had revealed deleted web history. Watching closely, Morphew sat up in his chair as Harris described a web visit to “Ashley Madison,” a site that describes itself as a dating service for people who are married or in relationships.

Investigators searching for Suzanne Morphew found no evidence of an affair on Barry Morphew’s part. The pen did reveal, however, that Suzanne had been having an affair of her own for about two years.
