Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Wow this is maddening. What is with this group bailing someone with that history and record out?? On the other hand, a judge did set him up with a bail that was not particularly high. Outrageous on both parts imo.

Wow what a winner this perp (not), system full of drugs, guns, leaving the scene, not rendering aid and more. However, the citizens and witnesses?? Running to help the victim, and tackling and stopping the "perp". Awesome response to the unknown and sounds done right. Tragic though, young girl working two jobs with it sounds like a great future.

Wow. I did not even realize what I posted above was this same case. Some people may not be a person that can be rehabilitated and all I have to say is I agree he belongs in the penal system whether he can be helped or not. He has a lengthy list of crime...
