ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

I wonder if they are just waiting for autopsy and tox, etc. results that they have not told the family much or if it is due to something else that is questionable like they know there was foul play.

Well I would not want him as my surgeon nor to be an unconscious patient shown on screen in a courtroom. What was this guy thinking?? All I can figure is he thought his profession and necessity would impress a judge since he panned his camera to show the room, etc. or so it sounds... See my important job, I need to be available... I wonder what his charge in traffic court is...

and it's not like either the surgery or the court appearance were just sprung on him. I would have to agree that he did do this purposefully and most likely to try to impress.

It sure seems that way doesn't it? I read somewhere yesterday too that there are attorneys who have actually shown up in Zoom court hearings, one with no shirt and one was in bed. These are intelligent people who got through law and med school??? Smh.

Sad. And how does a 14 year old check into a motel?? My guess is it was not exactly the Plaza. Even then, don't you have to check in and get a key and room number? Charged with 1st and 2nd degree... Clearly she had no great plan and I am only speculating but probably took money or a credit card from grandma to check into the motel. Unless there is a bf or something... No hint of that though...

I know a guy that told a judge he was too professional to do roadside cleanup with the masses and graciously offered to give inspirational speeches for community service. Let's just say between his DWI and his ego, he got extra cleanup hours lol.

I LOVE that. If a judge is an honest and good judge, such attempts should actually result in worse or more hours as in this case. On reading what you wrote, I substituted in my head the word "good" for "professional"... Lol. Meaning he (felt) he was too good to do roadside clean up... It was beneath him... Heck maybe he should have been put on pooper scooper duty... Does roadside cleanup include road kill? :D

Okay. I have had no time recently but I started to watch just five minutes here and there yesterday when I had a minute the LE interviews of the South Dakota AG. There are two. I only had time to so far get through a small part of the first one. Now this a.m., I see Scott Reisch, a practicing defense attorney who has a Youtube channel (Crime Talk) has a short video from ten hours ago stating a judge has ordered the interviews removed! I have not watched it yet and looked quickly for a news link but so far don't have one.

I assume they mean from public access. Hoping someone somewhere saves them somehow, I want to watch them both. Also, many in SD are calling for his resignation/removal. Anyhow, putting this here while I look for an article. Here is Crime Talk's video (I have not watched it myself yet).

Also in video above, LAPD defunding police means they are taking down the sexual assault unit (think Weinstein and more charged due to this unit) and other crime units like robbery, etc. because of money... The D.A.'s own Assistant D.A.s want him recalled because he is not going for aggravators in cases, etc. They are after enough signatures to remove him. Welcome to our nation... Well, LA anyhow...

Well, I also suggest watching Scott's short video above re the George Floyd case and how Mpls also tried/wanted to not fund police, etc. and how they are now hiring influencers on SM for the Floyd trial and more. The video is only 7 minutes long but he packs a lot of recent developments/cases/etc. into it.

Well just to finish up, Scott Reisch always has a dumb criminal contestant of the day and then subscribers vote for the dumbest of the week lol. Today it is a 12 year old girl who as he puts it is an arms dealer at her school!!! She takes orders from classmates for stun guns and then delivers them to the students at school. School officials and LE not amused. As Scott says, (my paraphrasing) initiative, a side hustle, a business plan, wow, that's great, however, the choice of side business well not so much.... Only in America...?

Manheim Township girl accused of killing older sister, Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office says

A 14-year-old girl in Manheim Township has been charged in the killing of her older sister, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office.

Claire Miller was arraigned Monday on a homicide charge and is being held without bail at Lancaster County Prison. She is charged as an adult in the killing of her sister, Helen Miller, 19.

Authorities said police responded shortly after 1 a.m. Monday to the family home in the 1500 block of Clayton Road.

According to court documents, Miller was outside the home when officers arrived and repeatedly said, “I stabbed my sister.”

Police said they went inside the home and found 19-year-old Helen Miller, who is wheelchair-bound, in a bedroom with a large knife in her neck. Life-saving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful, police said.
