ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Two six year olds, that's terrible. And then he also did time for sexually assaulting a 3 and 11 year old and apparently was released. WHY? Everyone I know of think those who harm children should basically at minimum have the key thrown away, at least those that fit certain criteria and are convicted. So why is it our legal system does not reflect that and feel and sentence with that same seriousness?

When he was just five years old, Julian Hernandez disappeared. His mother had reported him missing in August 2002 from Alabama, where it was suspected that his father, Bobby Hernandez, who disappeared at the same time, took him as part of a non-custodial parental abduction.

Investigators tried in vain to find the child, spending tireless hours doing everything they could to look for him. After several years, Julian’s disappearance was moved to the cold case files, but 13 years later surprising information came to the surface. Officers received a call proving that Julian Hernandez, now a teenager, had been found safe and sound in Cleveland, Ohio.

Julian Hernandez, now 18, was trying to apply for college when he found that his Social Security number did not match his name. With the help of a school counselor, the teen was shocked to discover he was in the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children database.

Members of the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force in Cleveland, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Vestavia Hills Police Department and the Birmingham Division of the FBI worked on the case and on November 2, it was confirmed that Julian Hernandez had been found, a spokeswoman from the FBI said.

His father, Bobby, was arrested and being charged with tampering with records and interfering with custody. Charges that if proved will land him in jail for 10 years.

After more than a decade of waiting and believing, the family released a statement Thursday, saying: “Our family was overjoyed this week to locate Julian and learn that he is safe. We want to thank everyone for their prayers and support during Julian’s disappearance.”

So tickled that he is safe, nothing beats that. And it's all that really matters.

However, it is a bit bittersweet in that another side of the family was deprived of him as he was of them. Of course we never know who was the best parent, just what the courts decided as to custody and they don't always get it right. Yet facing ten years for this seems light considering what the child and many others were deprived of.

I can't imagine this happening to one of my sons! What a nightmare.

Okay, I don't think I knew of this crime before now but just in reading this article with a few facts, where do these "killers" think they are so smart or their plans so great as to think they will get away with it? It just boggles my mind the likely fantasies in their head and belief in their own intelligence and plan (duh)... My point is the minute I read her husband was shot so many times but then the perp duct taped her wrists, and hit her and "tried" to take her jewelry... it was like what....? No... That doesn't happen... Then we have 7:30 a.m. safe and quiet neighborhood... I could come up with multiple reasons all of that right there is unbelieavable...

Anyhow, then she talks good about her husband and wants the killer caught, etc. publicly.... I don't know this case but would almost think it would become a bit of a known one now...

This is, on average, about 475 messages per day. That is a lot!

Among the 14,363 calls and texts Jennifer and Lopez exchanged between Sept. 30 and Oct. 30, 2020, she had described her relationship with her former boyfriend as "a full-blown emotional affair," the affidavit says.

Wow in reading all of that. Connected to Nasser and the U of M... So much for justice where this guy is concerned. :(
