Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Not sure if you all remember this case or not. The young 8 year old girl was found dead in her grandmothers car.
After her death, the other two siblings (who had run away prior to this incident) were located and determined to be safe.
However, this summer, the older 15 year old girl drowned in the Snake River in an accident.
The oldest boy, 17 year old Tristan, is missing again.

We mostly do here. While we dont have to to make calls that have the same area code you are physically in and your phone is from. With cell phones and multiple area codes in the area, it's just easier to do it rather than having to redial so often.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in July 2020 designated 988 as the abbreviated dialing code to reach the suicide prevention hotline that provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources, and best practices for professionals.

The FCC’s order requires all telecommunications carriers and providers to make changes necessary to ensure that users can dial 988 to reach the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by July 16, 2022. Until then, customers must continue to dial 1-800-273-8255 (TALK) to reach the Lifeline.

Not up on this thread at all, in fact I forget about it and notifications don't seem to always work for me on it. Anyhow, for anyone who followed the Noor case in Mpls., I don't see a thread for it, it was a few years ago... This never hit my radar with everything I have had going on and I don't think made any big splash of news either, nor did I know anything was going on with it... Supreme Court, etc... Resentencing... Since this case, a lot more has went on in in Mpls. with other cop cases all the way up to the recent Chauvin and others even since, I think a stun gun incident or mix-up... And Covid of course... it was interesting to listen to or at least I thought...

Of course politics and the Supreme Court and politics left the Judge I guess limited in the resentence range... It was interesting to listen to the attorneys and who I felt did best and of course the victims' family had statements. It was especially interesting to hear what the Judge said the jurors in the case a few years ago said when asked and questions they had... Much of it about cops and the City of Mpls. and more...
