ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

It came up as a random alert on my phone apparently I get alerts from California now but I decided to read it and after reading it I shared it. I'm also curious about what transpired and why.
I find it interesting that upon looking for the one woman someone came up concerned about the other. The part that throws me is the second woman supposedly was just seen with him that day so I did not get exactly why anyone would necessarily be worried about that woman yet...

Hmm. Thoughts? I am not sure what I think...

if that is truly why he had them, then it is far better to use than to just let it go to waste. The hospital by me did that for some extra vials that they had removed for the day from the freezer for vaccinating direct contact personell and they had extra at the end of the time so they called to the other employees that wanted one to come get vaccinated.

I don't know. I guess I would need to know more. There were hours left, could they not have called in more people waiting for them or offered them up to someone or does protocol prevent that? He took it, he chose the people and I have to wonder about his wife being one of them, etc.

I don't think it is necessarily the worst thing/crime in the world but they have a pretty tight code of ethics they are to follow and I am not sure I think this was just okay either. Again, though, I would have to know more. I mean at minimum I imagine all vials and doses are to be accounted for...

yes, lots of info left out.

Wasn't sure where to put this. VERY big story back when it happened.

Alexis Murphy has finally been found.

Authorities on Wednesday announced the remains of Murphy, who went missing seven years ago at age 17, were found in Nelson County in December.

Murphy went missing Aug. 3, 2013 after visiting a gas station in Lovingston. Randy Allen Taylor, 55, was found guilty of murder and abduction in the disappearance of Murphy in May 2014; he's serving two life sentences.

The remains were located Dec. 3 on private property near Stagebridge Road, along U.S. 29 in Lovingston. The Nelson County Sheriff's Office received positive identification of the remains as Murphy's on Feb. 5, the sheriff's office said on social media on Wednesday afternoon.
