ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Nathaniel Hendren, the former police officer accused of killing Officer Katlyn Alix while playing a type of Russian Roulette, has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action.

Hendren previously pleaded not guilty but has since agreed to a plea deal that would sentence him to seven years in prison. He was also sentenced to three years for armed criminal action. Both sentences will be served at the same time. Hendren must serve a minimum of three years before he is eligible for parole.

I don't know if maybe this one should have a thread? It's a current Amber Alert.

They went missing yesterday.

This is a bit interesting. For part of the read, I thought yeah right, he is guilty but upon reading on, I am kind of up in the air. He at least deserves a trial with decent representation, etc. Not sure what I think quite honestly. If the facts are correct here.

Coronavirus quarantine hotel collapses in China, trapping 70 people

At least 23 people were subsequently rescued, Reuters reported, citing government officials. Ten more were subsequently pulled from the rubble.

No reason for the collapse was given.

When he was interview in Prison he blamed the People he ripped off. The HBO Movie with Deniro and Pfeiffer is good and at the end is that part taken from his interview relayed through Deniro.
