ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

5 killed in shooting at Molson Coors campus in Milwaukee

Five people and the shooter were killed Wednesday in a shooting at the Molson Coors campus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, police said. The investigation is still ongoing.

The suspect is a 51-year-old man who was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Milwaukee police. The shooter was also an "active" employee.

Mayor Tom Barrett called the shooting "horrific" and said it was a "horrible" day for employees and those close to the situation.

Several law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI were at the scene investigating.

Employees were warned via email to find a safe place to hide. One employee texted her husband to say she was locked in a room hiding with coworkers.

Nearby schools and local business were placed on lockdown for several hours. The shooting occurred shortly before students at a local school would have been dismissed.

"They're not going to let them out till this is over," a bus driver told CBS News before the lockdown was lifted. "That could be a long time."

The Milwaukee campus of the Wisconsin Humane Society was initially placed on lockdown and then closed for the day once the lockdown was lifted.

Wesley Hadsell is accused of killing his 18-year-old stepdaughter, Anjelica 'AJ' Hadsell. Investigators found Anjelica's body in April 2015.

Trial Update, Wednesday, February 26:
The judge in the case declared a mistrial Wednesday afternoon.

Prosecutors had asked for the mistrial. The judge explained the mistrial was because the defense and prosecuting attorneys could not agree on what evidence the jury would be allowed to hear.

An Idaho woman who said her husband fell overboard during a morning boat ride in 2018 was arrested this week in connection to his death.
Laurcene "Lori" Isenberg, 66, was taken into custody Monday on a felony charge of first-degree murder following a grand jury indictment.

Her husband, Larry Isenberg, disappeared on Feb. 13, 2018, after Lori said he fell off their boat in Lake Coeur d’Alene in the area of Powderhorn Bay while he was looking at a stalled motor, according to a Facebook post by the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office.
Lori said she spent some time searching for Larry, but could not find him. He was found weeks later after a resident called 911 to report seeing a body floating in the lake.
An autopsy found that he had a lethal amount of Benadryl in his system, The Associated Press reports.

In a letter obtained by local newspaper the Coeur d'Alene Press, Lori said that Larry had been sick with the flu but wanted to take her on a boat ride to watch the sunrise. She said the motor started making strange sounds and Larry went over to look at it.

"... He stood up, looked at me with a confused look on his face and started to fall over," she wrote. "I jumped up and tried to get to him, but I tripped on the heater and banged my head and couldn't reach him in time."

Lori said she was "frantically looking for him" but couldn't find her husband. She eventually found his cellphone on the boat and called 911.

Court documents, however, accuse Lori of planning to kill her husband by intentionally creating the situation in which he died, the AP reports.

Lori is being held at the Kootenai County Jail on a $2 million bond, online records show. She is set to be arraigned in her husband's murder on March 3.

Last year, she pleaded guilty to three counts of wire fraud for embezzling $500,000 from her former employer, according to the AP. She was sentenced to five years in prison.

Four of her daughters also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud for taking money from their mother that was embezzled.

@PlainJaneDoe would certainly know more than I do, but I've actually seen suicides by Benadryl O.D.- I read that it wouldn't be pleasant (vomiting, etc.), but I look forward to hearing what PJD says.

I've been following this case as best I can- I REALLY hope the new folks in LE charge the husband, because I think he's guilty as hell! JMO.

two six year olds were arrested within a week ... by the same officer? This was disgusting (I do mot think the school expected an arrest). Do watch the video if you have followed this one. happened I/19/2019. The officer has since been fired

Video shows police arresting 6-year-old girl at school
The child had zip ties put around her wrists as she cried and pleaded to be let go.

In the police report from the incident, authorities say police were responding to a report that the 6-year-old "battered three staff members by kicking and punching them" at her school, the Lucious and Emma Nixon Academy in Orlando.

The girl was charged with battery, but those charges were not pursued, according to NBC Orlando-affiliate WESH.

The video shows that after the child is put in the back of the police car Turner goes back inside the school, where at least one employee is seen wiping away tears.

"Are the restraints, are they necessary?" another, visibly upset school employee asks.

"Yes," the officer replies. "And, if she was bigger she would've been wearing regular handcuffs."
I just watched this- I am SO po'd!!! Absolutely ridiculous! He acted like doing this made him a BIG MAN- hope he NEVER gets another job in L.E.!!!

Well-known Ohio child psychologist busted on 145 counts relating to child porn: Attorney general
An Ohio psychologist who made a name for himself speaking and writing on child endangerment and exploitation was arrested Thursday and charged with 145 counts related to child pornography, the Dayton Daily News reported.

Last August, Greg Ramey, 70, abruptly left Dayton Children’s Hospital, where he had worked for 40 years, because of a complaint received by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Neither the hospital, where Ramey was executive director for pediatric mental health resources, nor the attorney general would provide details on the complaint at that time.

The attorney general’s office said on Thursday, however, that the hospital “immediately placed him on administrative leave and then terminated him” when they were made aware of the investigation. <snip>
