Facing mounting financial pressure, Anthony Todt of Colchester killed his wife, three children and family dog at their house in Celebration, Fla., according to law enforcement and court records.

Osceola County Sheriff Russ Gibson called the quadruple murder “despicable” Wednesday and said Todt confessed.

Authorities took Todt, 44, into custody when they encountered him at the home at 202 Reserve Place Monday. He was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging him with multiple counts of homicide and felony animal cruelty, Gibson said during a press conference at the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office that was live streamed on the Internet.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for a man indicted on four counts of first-degree murder in the slayings of his wife and three children at their Florida home near Walt Disney World.

State Attorney Aramis Ayala announced during a news conference Tuesday that an Osceola County grand jury had formally charged Anthony Todt, 44, with the four murder counts, plus one count of animal cruelty. Prosecutors had previously charged Todt with second-degree murder to keep him in custody until a grand jury could be convened. Florida law requires a grand jury indictment for capital crimes.

Mentioning the dog also shows that Todt is too dangerous to be on the streets, even animals are in danger!
Agree. I think it shows this man has no heart for women, even his own wife. He has no heart for children, even his own blood. He has no heart for animals, even their own pet. There is NOTHING redeeming about him AND he tries to blame it all on his wife.

Florida won’t seek death penalty for Anthony Todt, Colchester physical therapist accused of killing family

Departing Orange-Osceola State Attorney Aramis Ayala filed notice Monday that her office would not seek the death penalty against several accused killers, including Anthony Todt, the Colchester physical therapist accused of killing his wife and three children last year in their home in Celebration, Florida.

In a notice filed in court Monday, Ayala said that concerns about Todt’s mental health played a factor in her office deciding against seeking his execution — reversing course from an earlier announcement that prosecutors would seek the death penalty in the case.

I don't have a problem with not seeking the death penalty, it is often useless anyhow but concern about his mental health??? This man knew what he was doing IMHO. Concern for that and for him, oh gee...

Wednesday marks a year since Anthony Todt, a physical therapist from Connecticut, was found inside his three-floor Celebration home with the decomposing, blanked-wrapped bodies of his wife, children and dog.

Anthony Todt, charged with killing his family, to face trial in September

Anthony Todt, the Colchester physical therapist accused of killing his wife, three children and family dog in Florida, is set to face jury trial in September.

The trial, set by Judge Keith Carsten of the Osceola County 9th District Court, will begin on Sept. 27. Lawyers for both the prosecution and defense notified the court they would be unavailable until that date.

Authorities illegally obtained confession from dad accused of killing family in idyllic Florida neighborhood, lawyers argue

In a motion filed on Aug. 31, Assistant Public Defender Peter Schmer argued that detectives failed to properly inform Todt of his rights during a hospital interview after his arrest. As a result, Schmer contended Todt’s confession should be excluded from his upcoming murder trial, set for Sept. 27, the Orlando Sentinel reported Friday.

The 45-year-old was also “suicidal” and had a diminished capacity because he was under the influence of a Benadryl overdose, Schmer added said.

“The combination of these factors led to an invalid waiver of Mr. Todt’s Miranda rights,” he wrote.

Anthony Todt defense: Jury shouldn’t see ‘cadaver photos’ of wife, kids found dead in Celebration home

Defense attorneys for Connecticut physical therapist Anthony Todt asked a judge Monday to prohibit prosecutors from showing jurors “cadaver photos” of Todt’s wife and three children after they were found dead inside the family’s Celebration home.

Prosecutors should also be banned from discussing the dismissed federal health care fraud allegations against Todt at his upcoming murder trial, or mentioning that the word “Todt” translates to “death” in German, said Assistant Public Defender Peter Schmer in a series of motions.

“Photographs of the deceased victims are shocking and unduly prejudicial,” Schmer wrote.

Unduly prejudicial!? That's what he did to them! And death in german is spelled Tod, not Todt. And wth does it matter? Are they expecting the Casey Anthony jury again?

Trial delayed to April for man accused of killing family in Celebration

During a court hearing Wednesday, the trial for the man accused of killing his family inside a Celebration home was delayed to April.

The trial was anticipated to be pushed back due to the sudden death of Todt’s lead defense attorney, but during Wednesday’s hearing it was learned another issue was contributing to the delay. The judge met with attorneys to discuss delaying the murder trial and Todt was scheduled to appear from jail by video but was unable to because of a medical issue.

“Considering everything else that is pending, we discussed April 4 as being the most prudent date to set it, that way we can have all of the unresolved issues, resolved,” the judge said.

The judge said jury selection will begin as early as April 4, but another hearing will take place on Jan. 21 to set a firm date.

Why for goodness sakes? I note they do not state how the little girl died, and I probably don't want to know. The family dog too. To accomplish what? And of course he lives, isn't that usually the case?

This is as bad as Watts but I hadn't heard of it until now I don't think.

Despicable is right.
Yeah. What did any of them do?. Nothing. The dog?. He should have just killed himself.

He deserves death. I'm sick of them and their plea deals and all their concern for the killer.
Me too. The system has gotten ridiculous. He killed his family. And the dog. Can it be proven? YES. Bye-bye. LIFE x number of dead. Not complicated but let's make it some bureaucratic nightmare with insanity defenses and appeals and worrying the defendant doesn't have it cushy enough.

Judge partially excludes Anthony Todt’s confession in Celebration killings from trial

A judge agreed this month to partially exclude a confession made by Connecticut physical therapist Anthony Todt in the 2020 killings of his wife and three children at their Celebration home from his upcoming murder trial.

The detectives who interrogated Todt after he was arrested at the hospital did not fully inform him of his Miranda rights before their first interview, Circuit Judge Keith Carsten ruled in his March 15 order.

A detective with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office omitted the warning that Todt’s statements could be used as evidence against him and advice about Todt’s right to have an attorney appointed if he could not afford one, Carsten found.

“The Miranda warnings recorded on the audio tape were inadequate and incomplete,” Carsten wrote in his ruling. “... Regardless of [Todt’s] apparent lack of hesitation to speak with the Detectives, and their lack of coercion or promise, [Todt’s] waiver of his Miranda protection cannot be found to be knowing and voluntary, as he was not afforded a full and complete advisement of his rights.”

After Todt’s first confession to the killings, detectives interrogated him two more times and read him the full Miranda warning before Todt repeated his involvement in the deaths of his wife and children. Defense attorneys argued those interviews should be excluded as well because Todt was suicidal and had diminished capacity after a Benadryl overdose.

Carsten rejected those arguments, though, finding Todt spoke to detectives voluntarily.

Todt’s trial is set to begin April 4 at the Osceola County Courthouse.

I heard this. It is only a partial exclusion and I think/hope they have plenty of evidence so I'm still thinking positive...
