Facing mounting financial pressure, Anthony Todt of Colchester killed his wife, three children and family dog at their house in Celebration, Fla., according to law enforcement and court records.

Osceola County Sheriff Russ Gibson called the quadruple murder “despicable” Wednesday and said Todt confessed.

Authorities took Todt, 44, into custody when they encountered him at the home at 202 Reserve Place Monday. He was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging him with multiple counts of homicide and felony animal cruelty, Gibson said during a press conference at the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office that was live streamed on the Internet.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for a man indicted on four counts of first-degree murder in the slayings of his wife and three children at their Florida home near Walt Disney World.

State Attorney Aramis Ayala announced during a news conference Tuesday that an Osceola County grand jury had formally charged Anthony Todt, 44, with the four murder counts, plus one count of animal cruelty. Prosecutors had previously charged Todt with second-degree murder to keep him in custody until a grand jury could be convened. Florida law requires a grand jury indictment for capital crimes.

Jury selection to begin in murder trial for man accused in Celebration slayings

The murder trial for a man accused of killing his family and their dog inside their Celebration home will begin on Monday.

Jury selection begins at 9 a.m. on Monday. The judge has said he expects the trail will last three weeks.

This reporter seems to be covering in detail:

'Everybody needed to die in order to pass over to the other side': Man accused of killing his wife and three children in Disney town of Celebration believed he had to kill them because the world was ending, trial hears

A dad murdered his wife and three children before leaving their corpses to rot in their Disney town home because he thought the world was ending, a court heard.

In opening statements Monday, prosecutors argued that the December 2019 crime was carried out after Anthony Todt, 46, and his wife made a murder-suicide pact to 'pass over' to the other side together at their home in Celebration, Florida, before what they believed was an impending apocalypse.

'Everybody needed to die in order to pass over to the other side together because the apocalypse was coming,' Assistant State Attorney Danielle Pinnell told jurors in Osceola County Court.

A 911 call heard in court Monday that one of Todt's sisters stating that Todt believed the world was ending in late December 2019, so deputies should check on the family.

When deputies went to the Celebration house to arrest Todt on insurance fraud charges related to his business, they discovered the horrific scene.

'The bodies were discolored, black and blue,' Special Agent Michael Phelps testified in court on Monday.

In three police interviews following the murders, Todt confessed to killing his family, which prosecutors reviewed in court on Monday.

Pinnell told jurors how Todt described to investigators that he killed Zoe first while she was sleeping, stating that he 'rolled over on top of her until she suffocated.'

Pinnell said that Todt then told investigators that he killed his two sons by suffocating them and stabbing them.

'He was afraid that if something didn't go the way that he wanted Tyler Todt would escape,' Pinnell told jurors.

Pinnell went on to say that Todt told investigators that his wife then stabbed herself twice—and when that didn't work, he suffocated her with a pillow. Lastly, Todt allegedly claimed he suffocated the family dog.

Six months after confessing to the murders, Todt claimed his wife was responsible for for the grisly crime, telling his father in a jail letter that she is the one who drugged their children with a 'tainted Benadryl pudding pie.'

Todt's defense team deferred their opening statements on Monday. The trial continues.

I'm not sure I recall any murder suicide pact unless he claims that. In my opinion it was all money and his getting caught or about to be found out... And yeah, now he claims the wife did it. Sicko.

If there was a pact and IF he believed the world was ending, he has a different date than the Daybells... They must not be part of the same group, he must be from one that branched off...

Child and spouse killers though--both he and the Daybells--with an excuse of the world ending, etc... When in both cases I believe it was money and selfishness and the other is simply a cover/ruse...

Anthony Todt trial: Celebration man accused of killing wife, 3 kids testifies

Wednesday marked day three of Anthony Todt’s murder trial.

The state rested its case. The defense began their presentation by calling Anthony Todt to the stand.

On Tuesday, jurors saw a video of Todt confessing to killing his family. But on the stand Wednesday, he said that's actually not what happened.

In the interview, he says he and Megan planned the deaths together after watching videos about the afterlife.

But while on the stand today, he told a different story.

Todt said when Megan started to get sick with Lyme disease and depression and after she suffered miscarriages, he says she began practicing a Hinduism-based religion with an afterlife component.

He got home sometime between Dec. 14 and Dec. 18 of 2019 which is when he says Megan told him she had killed their kids.

Then, he says one day, he came home and Megan showed him a suicide note.

"She said the kids were dead and Zoe is my little angel. That's the first one I went to,” Todt said.

He describes finding all three children dead, then seeing Megan stab herself on the bed.

He says he yelled for help out the window but didn't leave to find it.

Instead, he began looking for cell phones he says Megan put away.

"If I left her, I thought she was going to die. I thought in my decision-making, the best chance was for her to tell me where the phones were,” Todt said.

He says Megan told him she wanted to be with their kids before she died.

He says that led him to several suicide attempts.

"I couldn't help my wife pass. I felt like a failure. I wasn't there the night my kids died. I felt like a failure. I decided I wanted to be with my family, that I wanted to die, that I deserved to die,” Todt said. "She had blood on her shirt and after that, after I said a few uncolored words to her, I went and discovered the kids. I went into the rooms and found them dead."

When asked about the contradictions between the interview and his statements, Todt says two years ago, he was likely taking responsibility for his wife and was trying to cover for her.

This isn't even believable in print. I didn't get to see it but I imagine watching and listening to this tale was even less believable. This man is disgusting. He puts the children's deaths on her when he is the murderer imo. I haven't been able to watch it and likely won't get too so I don't know but I'd put him up first too if I were the defense rather than last where his are the last lies to remember as a juror...

A total CREEP-A-ZOID to put it nicely!

Ridiculous. The judge just comes out and acts like the jury has been deliberating for days (been less than one) and acting like they are having problems reaching a verdict!! Never seen such a thing.
