Facing mounting financial pressure, Anthony Todt of Colchester killed his wife, three children and family dog at their house in Celebration, Fla., according to law enforcement and court records.

Osceola County Sheriff Russ Gibson called the quadruple murder “despicable” Wednesday and said Todt confessed.

Authorities took Todt, 44, into custody when they encountered him at the home at 202 Reserve Place Monday. He was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging him with multiple counts of homicide and felony animal cruelty, Gibson said during a press conference at the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office that was live streamed on the Internet.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for a man indicted on four counts of first-degree murder in the slayings of his wife and three children at their Florida home near Walt Disney World.

State Attorney Aramis Ayala announced during a news conference Tuesday that an Osceola County grand jury had formally charged Anthony Todt, 44, with the four murder counts, plus one count of animal cruelty. Prosecutors had previously charged Todt with second-degree murder to keep him in custody until a grand jury could be convened. Florida law requires a grand jury indictment for capital crimes.

Why for goodness sakes? I note they do not state how the little girl died, and I probably don't want to know. The family dog too. To accomplish what? And of course he lives, isn't that usually the case?

This is as bad as Watts but I hadn't heard of it until now I don't think.

Despicable is right.

Interesting that this case IMO doesn't get the same publicity like the Watts murders. Maybe they were not 'glamorous' enough :( . Really really sad that another fake POS thought he had the right to erase those beautiful human beings. And Breezy, the little dog.

I thought the same. Why one gets a ton of publicity and the next one doesn't when similar particularly? No "other" woman involved perhaps?

Police responded to the family’s 202 Reserve Place home in Celebration on Dec. 29 when a family member asked for a welfare check because she hadn’t heard from them in two days.
The deputies checked around the residence and noticed the blinds were closed, but ultimately they did not report anything suspicious and left.

[...]
Soon after, on Jan. 9, federal agents reached out to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office about an investigation involving Anthony Todt, linked to his time in Connecticut.
Again, nothing suspicious was noticed and authorities couldn’t make contact with anyone.

The bodies were found when federal agents and deputies went to the house to serve an arrest warrant. Todt was already being investigated by the FBI and agents with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for health care fraud, according to court documents unsealed earlier this month in Connecticut federal court.

Authorities say he needed the money to pay off personal loans. Online records in New York state court showed Todt and his Colchester, Connecticut-based clinics were facing debts.

According to agents, Todt and the clinics submitted claims to Medicaid and private insurers for physical therapy services that weren’t given to patients.

I read about the federal part and wonder what his end game was. Was he going to run after killing his family, flee the country? Was there life insurance on all, that doesn't help anything if you are arrested for murder. Was she going to testify against him? I just don't see the motive.

That could be a reason as well. But one of the differences is that the 'Dad' didn't do a creepy tv interview like Watts and maybe also that the Watts led quite a 'public' life on social media, due to Shann'ann's MLM promoting. So many lives destroyed 😢.

He first denied the fraud accusations, then admitted that he started "adding stuff" to randomly chosen patients bills, according to the court documents. He said his wife and employees were unaware of the scheme.

The business had borrowed from 20 different lenders between 2015 and 2018, the documents said. In one month in 2017 alone, the business had taken out nearly $100,000 in short term loans.

Family Physical Therapy employees told investigators that they had stopped getting paid, or their checks bounced.

Todt's business had been evicted from his office in Connecticut, and an eviction notice was recently served at the home where his family was found dead in Celebration, a residential community about 20 miles south of downtown Orlando that was created by the Walt Disney Co. in the 1990s.

(IMO, his wife didn't know and the possible collection of life insurance policies may be a more definitive explanation, however is speculative because nothing has been publically stated as his reason why.)

Cowardice combined with hybris, always dangerous. Living way above your means as well. I guess for a while he thought he could handle this, until he couldn't. Pathetic excuse for a human being. Just my personal opinion.

Sad that in the end mostly money and greed are the reasons for those tragedies.

That makes a lot of sense and it is probably the reason why. It may have been too that they did not find the girls right away nor have him nailed (Watts). I admit to not watching that one but even then, I was well aware of the basics of it just from the news.

I guess I am trying to figure out if he snapped (eviction notice, stress, etc.) or planned (life insurance, was going to go alone on the run and pictured some fabulous new life). This explains a lot towards trying my trying to figure that out. Suicide would make more sense since he was the one undergoing the investigation. But then again, it could be the classic, the wife has had it and told him she was leaving with the kids...

I appreciate you taking the time to answer. I in no way mean to create more work. Just trying to discuss the cases. Always feel free to answer or not, and in your own time.

I agree and also tend to form opinions based on those things. Living high but never learned how to pay a bill or budget. A fake lifestyle all of the way around, etc. He was found out and the shame of his wife and kids knowing but then he can run and recreate another fake life? Kind of where I am at with it at the moment.

I second this! Thank you @kdg411 for all the work you do!

And don't forget that his Dad tried to have his Mom killed, if that isn't a traumatic incident, I don't know what is. I think this is very important .

Wow. I did not know this. Just wow. Usually I will read all posts on a case before asking questions but since Puckhead caused what he did, one intrigues me so I ask questions. I really appreciate the answers I just want to say from everyone. I try to help when it is a case I know too and will continue to do so.

I personally don't think that It's an excuse for what he did, but maybe for him it is? I wish a psychologist would tell us more about all this! Or psychiatrist.

It is interesting. Some children go opposite of bad things their parents may have done and others seem to walk in their shoes... I don't think it is any excuse either but he was boy with the main role model, the father, a bad person. Interesting also that his father never tried to kill him or have the hitman kill him but the son murdered three of his own children... I would like to know an expert's take on it, to me it is the man in the household caring more about his needs or wants because neither one took themselves out. I don't know... Or was he trying to outdo his father? One thing that is said, and I agree, is we can't understand the thoughts of people who would do something like this because we don't think that way. I don't think I ever will understand how someone could cross that line except they don't have lines maybe?

I think that it is only possible to cross that line if you are unable to connect to other human beings, living in a different kind of reality. But why didn't he try to run? This bothers me. Jmo

Toxicology report: Family slain near Disney shows high levels of Benadryl

Four members of a Connecticut-area family found slain at their Florida home near Disney World had high levels of the allergy medication Benadryl in their system, according to news station WFTV 9 in Orlando, which cited recently released toxicology reports.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against the father, 44-year-old Anthony Todt, in connection with the killings of his wife, Megan, 42, sons Alek, 13, and Tyler, 11, and daughter Zoe, 4. The family’s dog was also killed.

The medical examiner reported finding extremely high levels of diphenhydramine in all four victims, according to WFTV, but has not yet said if the drug contributed to their deaths.

Overdoses of diphenhydramine can be fatal.

So he dosed them all with Benadryl to make them too sleepy to resist his attacks? I hope he never sees the light of day again.
