The police search of Manorville and its surrounding areas continued into a fifth day Saturday, with Suffolk County police and New York State K-9 units searching deeper into the woodlands than they had in previous days as the Gilgo Beach investigation continues to expand to new areas.
Four Suffolk K-9 teams were spotted near the power lines west of Nugent Drive in Calverton not far from the Suffolk County Jail, where suspected Gilgo Beach killer Rex A. Heuermann has been housed since his arrest last July. New York State Police were also spotted south of the Long Island Expressway again, beginning their morning in the woods east of Chapman Boulevard and County Road 111.
This was the second straight day police crossed over the LIE after focusing their efforts the first three on portions of the woods to the north. On Friday, county police also searched woods 20 miles away in North Sea, a hamlet in Southampton Town, at the site of a 1993 unsolved murder.
The lengthy search is part of the Gilgo Beach homicide investigation, sources have told Newsday.
Police and prosecutors have declined to discuss specifics of the cadaver dog search, including what, if anything, has been found related to the case since the multiagency effort began Tuesday.

"We do not comment on investigative steps while they are underway," read a statement from Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney's office. "We will make further statements when appropriate."
On Saturday afternoon, Suffolk County crime scene investigators removed a safe and other items from a robbery that state police found while patrolling the woods south of Mill Road in Manorville.

On Friday evening, an NYPD pickup truck that spent the entire day in the woods returned to the Manorville firehouse and parked in front of the mobile Command Center Suffolk police have had set up on the property for several days. Officers put on rubber gloves and removed several items from a lock box on the truck. It wasn't clear what they brought back.
Police have to date searched much of the woodlands north of the LIE's Manorville exits and south of Middle Country Road, including sections of Calverton, Ridge and even a federal preserve on Brookhaven National Laboratory property in Upton. Manorville itself has more than 6,900 acres of core pine barrens, preserved forestland.
A rural hamlet with all 25 square miles situated in the Central Long Island Pine Barrens, Manorville is where the partial remains of two women named as victims in the Gilgo Beach investigation were found more than 20 years ago.
In November 2000, partial remains of Valerie Mack, a New Jersey native, were found in a wooded area west of Halsey Manor Road near Mill Road.
In 2003, partial remains of Jessica Taylor, who lived for a time in the Bronx, were located about a mile south near the LIE.
Other remains of both women, who had been sex workers, were later found along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo. No arrests have been made in the killings of Taylor and Mack.
Heuermann, an architect from Massapequa Park, was charged in four other Gilgo Beach homicide cases. None of his alleged victims had remains located in Manorville.
THANK YOU!!!! MUCH APPRECIATED, READ EVERY WORD.

Interesting as heck.

Interesting. Most comments right under it think photos or images were found on devices showing women in the home and they are taking anything that was in photos near them. Also speculation a secret room in the basement and one person said he didn't get that architect degree for nothing....

Some they found or results from the first search likely led to this allowing to more specifically search. One image of one woman in the basement could do it for that part... Others speculate it was DNA...

Lots going on and add in the Manorville search...

So I see STS and Vinnie and Court TV already have live from Crime Con things for tonight. This one was about this case and is coming up shortly so posting. Haven't seen Nate scheduling a show on any case from Crime Con there but know they went. Should be several over the next couple of days. Said it before and will again, Id LOVE to have attended that once but I think my time to do so or have the energy to do so is past unless someone gives me a room right at the thing lol and gets me right to the door as well. I cannot imagine the bookings and crowd.

Take it for what it is worth, comes from sources, rumor, speculation. I only started watch but this is a retired NYPD sergeant and Josh Zeman is writer, producer, director of the Killing Season or was it Fields. I am mixing it up probably.

The rumor, thought, and hint is an indictment is coming soon and it is related to Jessica Taylor, he is hearing next week possibly....

They aren't saying fact, as they also had heard a few years ago Peaches was going to be announced and that did not come true, etc., etc. but they DID go right to where Jessica's body was found and then back to CB's home...

I can't keep all straight, Tresir is way better, but IF CB is charged with Taylor, doesn't it change everything as to how disposed of, where, manner, etc...? They said in this one she was dumped in an area people walk their dogs in all the time so the perp wasn't overly trying to hide her...

AGAIN they are NOT saying this is fact, but it is what they are hearing rumblings of....

I probably won't have time to finish it but for others, here ya go. I will finish later now that Daybell is put to bed for the moment. Long time coming.

Oh so part of her body was in Manorville and something like eleven years later remainder found in Gilgo... I cannot keep this all straight with these victims and readily admit it...

By next week I think they mean this coming week they think possibly...

If they can connect CB to Jessica then they can likely from there connect him to many more victims... I would leave only Asian male and Vergata....

This is INTERESTING...

Stlll listening as I finish readying for work.

Good point that IF CB is charged with Jessica Taylor it mostly puts the two killer theory to bed...

I doubt dogs would walk by a dead body, even if it's sixty feet from the path.

I have no idea of when and how found. We probably know but I can't keep most of these murdered women, the where, the details, if the entire body or parts sadly straight. Perhaps a dog did find her and alert someone and it wasn't long. I honestly don't know. Their point was if this was CB his different MO in these earlier ones (think they were earlier) and how maybe he WANTED some of these found as he is putting them in somewhere the public uses a lot, etc. or very near to such. @Tresir is probably the most up on having them all straight and the where, what and so on and yet I don't doubt she even has to refresh. Do you know? I don't.

She was found somehow at some point and yeah I'd guess it may well have been by a walker with their dog... No idea though.

I'm having trouble keeping all of the threads I'm following facts straight, they seem to blend into each other some times.
Some I think we all struggle with in the thread itself, not so much mixing up threads or cases. This one for me, I can't tell you which woman was when, where, if parts or whole, when found and so on. I in no way have it straight. A handful I have straight as to some things. I know Vergata was the one claimed to be at the home with the cop bf for swinging. I know when I hear them the name of the four victims he is charged for but keeping other details straight not so much. I know it was Amber Costello's "bf' and incidents with him that provided the vehicle info. I know Shannon Gilbert, NOT even considered murdered, probably the best with the facts. I know Peaches has not been identified (to the public anyhow) and was the one whose child was also found. So I can keep all that straight, etc. and more but as far as when, where, what years, what was found, how found and more, total confusion for me. I don't though mix it up with other cases out there.

Not that I can't have to check with some I haven't followed closely, like was this the kid whose mother did this or was that the one whose bf did...

Daybell was convoluted to no end with so much but that one I know better the names, places, people because I followed all from the start than like this one which I followed but was truly never an investigated case with news due to that arsehole for one James Burke. But even so in Daybell, so much has been given out through the years, so much discussion, so many family members of various ones talking online or to YT channels, etc. and so many facts, so much stuffed in, it takes a reminder sometimes of oh YEAH, I forgot THAT happened or he or she said or did THIS.

Not going to get any easier either as we are getting older emu. So far though I am not mixing up my cases for the most part. I did post a couple things in the wrong thread the other day but realized pretty quickly and deleted and moved. That was just due to thinking I was still on one page and after working all day and I did not have the cases mixed up, I simply forgot I checked a new post on another thread and wasn't still on the case I was mostly wanting to check the news on, Daybell I'm sure or would guess.

Anywhoooo, I'd be interested to know when she was found if such a public walking area or near it and if a dog did have anything to do with it... And how quickly...

Their point though again was how he seems to have a bit of a different MO in these other ones and maybe WANT them found and the sensationalism... Or mystery... Or whatever they are after... That is IF CB did that one, these others....

NEW YORK — A New York architect charged in the Gilgo Beach killings will return to court this week after investigators searched his suburban home and combed a wooded area elsewhere on Long Island.

Rex Heuermann, who has pleaded not guilty in the deaths of four women whose remains were found along a remote beach highway, will appear Thursday in state court in Riverhead, a spokesperson for the Suffolk County district attorney’s office confirmed. He had previously been scheduled to return to court for a June 18 status hearing.

The new court date comes two weeks after investigators returned to Heuermann’s single-story home in Massapequa Park, where they had recovered a cache of weapons during an initial search following his arrest last summer. A date for Heuermann’s trial has not yet been set.

During the most recent search, which lasted several days, investigators placed paint chips and other materials into evidence bags and removed a large rectangular object covered in a blue cloth.

A spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office would not say whether the upcoming hearing was related to the renewed search effort.

In April, authorities involved in the investigation also spent more than a week searching a wooded area in Manorville, fueling speculation that they were seeking new evidence linked to some of the additional six sets of remains that were discovered along Gilgo Beach more than a decade ago.

Heuermann, 60, was arrested in July in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello. He was charged in January in the death of Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

His attorney, Michael Brown, has said his client maintains his innocence. He declined to comment on the nature of Thursday’s hearing.

Hmm. So he wasn't due to return to court until the 18th but now they have a sudden hearing set for the 6th. And no one will advise of the reason. Interesting.

However, I'd think if they were going to announce another charge, they'd just announce such/charge him.

Neither D nor P will comment on what the hearing is for. From reading the link, there is no reason or hint given and so I can only take it as it could be anything even a defense motion, maybe CB wants real butter or some such as he asked/complained about to the Happy Face Killer.

It seems it would be something bigger since neither will say but then they just don't...

Find it odd and a bit hard to believe they didn't have to provide wifey with a search warrant and reason for the new search. From the link:

He declined to say what was taken from the home and said the family has not yet received the search warrant affidavit that would spell out their reasons for conducting the search.

Per her attorney. I suspect a play on words or some such. They were not home so maybe the physical copy hasn't been received or some such but I would think they were advised? Unless of course it is some type of emergency warrant so nothing was discarded or removed prior, like a no knock kind of warrant. I doubt it though. I'm sure she was or had to be advised most likely of the reason for this new entry and search. Maybe just wasn't home to receive the "physical" piece of paper. Regardless, I don't believe a word Macedonia says and so I suspect there's some kind of twist to the truth there or omission of fact.

Well, I've heard speculation there would be another murder charge this week or close to supposedly from sources and rumblings but would they really just have a hearing and do it that way rather than just issuing charges and an announcement? Is that what happened with the fourth death charged that came later? Can't recall but I thought it simply was announced and charged almost simultaneously or was there a hearing first?

Remains of Jessica Taylor and Valerie Mack were found in close proximity of one another in those woods in Manorville and relatively soon after they'd disappeared, although Mack wasn't identified until about 2019. Other remains of both were found on Ocean Pkwy in 2011.

I thought that might be the case--found relatively quickly. The were speculating that it was intentionally near a public area/trail and the different MO, maybe wanting them found fast and how if that was CB how his manner or method evolved. I'm paraphrasing of course.

Thanks for the info, I just cannot keep them all straight in this one as to who, where, when, how found and so on and with so many.

It's been a long time since I've mentioned it but Commissioner Dormer (he's passed away several years now- I'd really taken a liking to him) believed there was only one killer responsible.
He referred to the cases of the four victims initially found and Mack and Taylor and the Asian male and the unidentified female and her toddler when he observed- he said this repeatedly- "they all come back to Ocean Parkway". He believed the chances were just too slim that it wasn't the same killer.

Not familiar the name offhand. If I ever did her it back when, I've forgotten it. Commissioner of where, NYC? Or another agency?

I have always felt it one killer myself. I do allow for POSSIBLY one or two may have been by someone else but I honestly have always felt it was one killer, not a copycat and not some random second serial killer both unaware of the other. Just one. I don't recall all my reasons but yes one was just the areas and I just felt also like he would have changed MOs or learned or whatever even if some of the victims varied and their disposal and whether whole or in parts all varied and so on. Even varying to a child, a mother and an Asian male, all or many seemed to have similarities in that many were not reported missing or at least were unable to be identified, were also sex workers possibly and even likely, and still much in common. Like I said, don't recall all the reasons but definitely was and is what my gut says. Today I also think it highly likely CB is good for murders in other areas as well... Like out of state...
