10-year-old Lily Peters found dead near Wisconsin trail with bike nearby, suspected homicide *ARREST*

14. This is unbelievable. :(
My grandson is 15 (I don't think of him as 15 but he is) and I can no more imagine him doing this than I can picture a fish climbing a tree. That isn't meant to be a joke at all but an attempt to come up with something so unimaginable as to compare. And the northern Wisconsin area, no. I mean like anywhere, there are drugs, not all families are without problems, but this just isn't the norm. I guess is it ever, no, but that's what makes it stand out already, and NOT a ten year old, he77 there aren't even adult murders. And by a 14-year-old. We don't even have murders of 10 year olds by adults much less by another kid!! You all know of our baby murder by the other side and that is a RARITY. The county this case is in I will guarantee you deals with little in the way of any murders of any kind either.

Someone slipped. Kid's last name is Peavey? Did I hear that right?

Also, what are site rules when discussing a minor age defendant when counsel blurted it out?

First court appearance.

So he is a lifelong resident of Chippewa County and lives with his mother. It may well be a cousin then but there are apparently siblings.

I can't get over someone being raised in such a neck of the woods doing something like that.

No hint of whether this will be waived into adult court that I heard but I imagine that will come or the debate/decision on it.

I was surprised greatly to hear the judge ask if any victims were present or wanted to speak AND if any had problems with the dates scheduled, etc. Never have I seen that and it honestly should be that way. We never had that and it would have been nice and have helped. I am not complaining about the prosecution side and all related offices/agencies, they did a great job, but the judge never asked us anything like that nor did we know we had such a right. Makes me wonder if it is new.

The final thing I think of note is that they said there is no case number yet. There is a complaint however and there will be one in short order imo if there couldn't have been already. I'm sure it has been a scramble and press has probably descended as well. Once there is a case number, I'm unsure, but I think events, dates, motions, etc. can be followed by case number online even if the name on the case is initials.

So if anyone gets the case number, please share it.

It's sure it's shocking for you. Things have happened around here that I never would have thought would happen. And in a certain time not that long ago they wouldn't have. Now I see hardly anything at all that is the same. Things even in this complex that have happened creeped in for more than one reason. But it happens in small towns and changes them forever. It just takes one evil person to pick where to live. Or stay where they grew up, And no one would have ever guessed. they would "never do something like that".

I've been following this case in the news, and just caught up on reading the posts on this forum.

I did some googling and was surprised to see the statistics on the number of illegal sexual crimes that are committed by juveniles, and that it is so high. Includes cousins, and other relatives in intra-family relationships. The prevalence seems quite high.

I also found another case of cousin-to-cousin murder following a sexual assault by a young adolescent boy (15) and his much younger 9-year old cousin in New Mexico in 2020. It apparently happened after a sleep over at her aunt's house, by the male cousin, of the 9 year old girl. Very tragic.

Edited to add: Here is the link for the New Mexico teen murder of his cousin that I mentioned above.

How does a 14 year old become a stone cold killer?
There are kids who kill for the simple reason they want to know what it's like to kill someone. There was a killing a sibling of another sibling over a video game, Bullying turning deadly, All sorts of reasons. Kids younger than that have killed and hearing them speak knew what they were doing.

And, if I heard the hearing correctly, he also raped her? I don't understand the juvenile system in WI. In juvenile court here, minors are not given a bond, they can be released on house arrest, but not bond. I'm guessing he's gonna be charged as an adult?
I don't know but I can tell you we are a notoriously low bond state at least in the north. Off the top of my head, I can't think of even a murderer that hasn't had bond. Jake Patterson (Jayme Closs case) I believe was a million. First time, unheard of. He couldn't make bond of course but he had a bond amount. PRetty sure.

I expect and hope he will be charged as an adult. IT just happened and hopefully we will hear that soon. Again don't know, but am hoping/counting on it.

Preliminary autopsy results shed light on Lily Peters' cause of death

Preliminary results are now known about what caused the death of Lily Peters, a 10-year-old girl from Chippewa Falls.

According to Chippewa County coroner Ron Patten, the preliminary results show Peters died from blunt force trauma and strangulation, and the manner of death was a homicide.

Patten said he will not have the completed autopsy results until he receives more information from the state crime lab as well as the toxicology report. He said this can take up to six weeks.

The preliminary results are consistent with what Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell described on Tuesday— saying it was the suspects intent to kill Peters "from the get-go."

"Also his statements regarding the fact that when he did get off the trail, punched the victim in the stomach, knocked her to the ground. Essentially strangled her, hit her with a stick before strangling her to the point of death before he then sexually assaulted her," Newell said.

The 14-year-old charged with 1st degree intentional homicide is being held on a $1 million cash bond, and is due back in court next Thursday.

We had a huge travel day today, long day so I haven't been online at all until now, other than a few brief minutes before 5 this morning I think it was. We stopped on the way home for a break and this case came up with a server asking us if we'd heard about what happened in Chippewa. Well of course we did know. He said today they had waived him into adult court or said they were charging him as an adult? I don't have a link but I have no reason to doubt it so popped on here to check if it was news. I'm tired as all get out, but if I manage to stay up a few minutes, I'll take a look or will tomorrow so I guess I can't confirm it but the guy seemed to have been following it and asked if we had heard the latest so just sharing that it is likely true.
