A sheriff's office in Alabama issued an alert Friday night after an inmate and the assistant director of corrections went missing earlier in the day. Authorities said the inmate, who was being held on capital murder charges, should be considered "armed and extremely dangerous."

Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton told reporters Friday night that Vicki White, a 25-year veteran at the department, left the local detention center with Casey Cole White at 9:41 a.m. He said she told other officials she was going to drop him off at the courthouse for a mental health evaluation and then was going to seek medical attention because she wasn't feeling well. Despite having the same last name, the two are not related.

Shortly after 11 a.m., someone found her patrol vehicle in a parking lot of a shopping center. At 3:30 p.m., officials became aware that no one had been able to contact her, and that the inmate had not been returned to custody.

Listening to the audio of Vicky talking - it all seems so quick! One second she’s talking about jumping out of the car and running and then another second she was talking about going back to the motel. Sounds to me like she was crazed.
I'm pretty sure all of the planning was on her and he was just going with it because...freedom, if only for a moment. He had nothing to lose by escaping.

$5,000 reward given to person who gave "valuable" information that led to capture of escaped Alabama inmate Casey White

A $5,000 reward has been given to a person who provided help in capturing an inmate who sparked a nationwide manhunt after escaping with a jail official, Alabama's governor said Wednesday.

Gov. Kay Ivey directed the Finance Department to issue a $5,000 reward to a person who "provided valuable assistance to law enforcement in securing the apprehension and arrest of Casey White," Ivey's office said in a news release.

The recipient has chosen to remain anonymous, the governor's office said. Officials did not describe what information the person provided.

"Thanks to the good information from this citizen and the diligent work from law enforcement in Alabama all the way to Indiana, we were able to put the bad guy behind bars where he belongs. I look forward to justice being served," Ivey said in a statement.

Evansville car wash manager not rewarded for his assistance in the Casey White case; Alabama rewards another instead

The state of Alabama gave a $5,000 dollar reward to a person who helped police find Casey White and Vicky White. However, the person who received the reward is not the Evansville car wash manager who spotted Casey White’s abandoned truck.

Eyewitness News reached out to James Stinson, the manager of Weinbach Car Wash. Stinson told Eyewitness News that he did not receive the reward that was announced by the state of Alabama.

Oh FFS! It's always some B.S. What, Couldn't get a fair trial in that county?. Psh. Yeah, No one else heard about it.

A new chapter in this case:

Former escaped convict Casey White has been charged with felony murder in the death of former jail guard Vicki White, who assisted him in a shocking escape attempt earlier this year.
I never thought she killed herself or at least I felt the 911 call etc. could have been misconstrued. I took it another way than they did and felt it unlikely too that she committed suicide. However, they aren't saying what their basis is...

Vicki, 56, was believed to have taken her own life rather than be apprehended by police following a car chase with authorities. It is unclear whether the new charges against Casey indicate a change in that fact pattern.

Yeah I read one of the links and it said that the autopsy showed that she killed her self so I don’t know what’s going on.

felony murder doctrine
n. a rule of criminal statutes that any death which occurs during the commission of a felony is first degree murder, and all participants in that felony or attempted felony can be charged with and found guilty of murder. A typical example is a robbery involving more than one criminal, in which one of them shoots, beats to death or runs over a store clerk, killing the clerk. Even if the death were accidental, all of the participants can be found guilty of felony murder, including those who did no harm, had no gun, and/or did not intend to hurt anyone. In a bizarre situation, if one of the holdup men or women is killed, his/her fellow robbers can be charged with murder.

Well it could be some type of thing where they may try him claiming if not for him she would be here today but that would be pretty weak if you ask me because all signs showed she did this willingly and was fully on board.

So my guess is they have found he lied about what really went on at the end there and they just haven't updated the findings yet. That could have come from a lot of things and one would be monitoring him and his conversations in jail with his mother or other inmates, etc. Maybe further findings on investigation, autopsy, testing, etc. Reviewing his story, the evidence, 911 call, tape and more...

I see the last sentence would apply seemingly but one can interpret that they likely mean killed by someone else not at their own hand and of their own volition, i.e., suicide. I don't know and I am not saying if it is meant to cover suicide or not but it will be interesting to see how it shakes out and how that is looked at. She was murdered in the commission of the crime is the problem I see, she took her OWN life. They would basically be calling suicide murder and it classically isn't... So...?

She was still killed. I honestly don't think there is a huge cover up. He was driving and evading police while being an escaped felon. Among other things.

OK that’s how I read it the very first time but then I started second-guessing myself.
To me, it really doesn't matter if he actually did it or not. He was freely and voluntarily committing the crime, she died in the process and now he has to pay for it.

We all know all his crimes will be served concurrently, so it really doesn't matter in the end since he will only be doing the time for the longest sentence and not all of them

Escaped Alabama prisoner Casey White indicted on gun charges in Indiana

A federal grand jury indicted Alabama prisoner Casey White, who escaped prison and was found in southern Indiana May 9, Thursday on charges of having a gun as a felon and fugitive.

On July 12, a grand jury indicted Casey with murder in Vicky's death, alleging that during the jailbreak — while committing the crime of escape in the first degree — Casey caused Vicky's death, who authorities said shot herself in the head right before they were captured.

According to the United States Attorney's Office Southern District of Indiana, Casey had four handguns and an AR-15 rifle when Vicky and he were found in Evansville. Casey was prohibited from possessing guns because he was a fugitive, as well as his 2019 felony convictions for attempted murder and kidnapping in Limestone County, Alabama.

Casey is currently in custody at an Alabama jail on separate charges and will make his initial appearance in southern Indiana at a later date.

If convicted, Casey faces an additional 10 years in federal prison for each count.
