Authorities in Oklahoma searching for missing 4-year-old girl
Authorities in Oklahoma are searching for a missing 4-year-old girl.

Officials said 4-year-old Athena Brownfield was last seen at a home in Caddo County.

The investigation began Tuesday at 2 p.m. when a postal carrier reported finding Athena's five-year-old sister near their home. The postal carrier reported the incident to the Cyril Police Department and authorities learned Athena was missing.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has been called in by Cyril police to help with the search. The OSBI said a command post has been set up at Family Life Church in Cyril. Anyone wanting to volunteer is asked to check in at the command post and get instructions from the OSBI.

Caddo County Sheriff's Office and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol are also assisting.

Authorities are asking that anyone with a home or business in Cyril that has a video doorbell camera come to the Family Life Church and notify law enforcement.

Community members are also being encouraged to search their own property for Athena. For those wanting to assist in the search effort, visit the Command Post at Family Life Church.

Preliminary hearing set for Cyril couple accused of killing 4-year-old in their care

The couple accused of killing and hiding the body of 4-year-old Athena Brownfield is scheduled for an October preliminary hearing together.

OCTOBER before even a preliminary hearing.

Can anyone tell me, I am not that up on this case, just WHO these people are the mother I gather left these children with? Was it the mom who left them in their care, do I have that right??

Because in skimming through, I see no family connection or reason for it, etc. And if there is no such connection then for what possible reason or purpose would this couple take on these kids??

I think the answer to that is probably not because they were good samaritans, it probably isn't because they cared about these children (did they even know them before getting them??). It likely isn't that they are profiting and getting child support from mom and dad so WHY would they get them, take them, and keep them? I think the answer to that is itself probably bad news.

Unless I missed something?

Bench to honor Athena Brownfield unveiled

A memorial bench was installed this week in honor of the four-year-old girl who was found dead in January.

The Athena Brownfield Memorial Bench was installed at the Cyril Town Plaza on Monday.

She was reported missing after her sister was seen outside alone, and much of southwest Oklahoma came together in the search for the girl.

Her body was ultimately found buried in Rush Springs. Her caretakers, Ivon and Alysia Adams, were charged in connection to her death.

IIRC Alysia Adams is Jasmin Brownfield's (bio mother) cousin.

Athena Brownfield died of acute pneumonia complicating malnutrition, ME report says

The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner determined that Athena Brownfield, the 4-year-old girl whose body was found after she was reported missing in January, died of acute pneumonia complicating malnutrition and ruled her death as a homicide.

A newly released summary report of Athena's death states that the 4-year-old weighed 23 pounds when she died. The summary also notes that tests detected rhinovirus/enterovirus, human adenovirus, human bocavirus and COVID-19.

She was four. My children weighed that or close to that at the end of their first year on this earth. A general average is they should triple their weight in the first year. She was FOUR years old. SICK DISGUSTING PEOPLE.

IMO this makes it sound not even as bad as it was. That's a LOT of weight difference at this age even with the average.

My point is if any of us lost five pounds it would be wow but not a great loss. If your CAT lost five pounds, it would be reason for extreme worry. This child didn't likely ever have five pounds to lose but all get my meaning I'd hope. And they are talking TWELVE pounds just from average for her height.

FRY HIM.

Charges modified for couple accused in Athena Brownfield’s death

There are new developments inside a Caddo County courtroom surrounding Ivon and Alysia Adams. The couple is charged in the disturbing death of 4-year-old Athena Brownfield. After Tuesday’s time in court, charges have been modified for both.

It’s been nearly a year since Brownfield was reported missing after her big sister was found wandering outside their Cyril home. Her remains found a week later near Rush Springs.

A judge was supposed to hear evidence Tuesday in the case against her two caregivers, Ivon and Alysia Adams, but the preliminary hearing was waived, after prosecutors amended the charges against the couple.

The day started with an hour of suspenseful waiting and whispering between District Attorney Jason Hicks, attorneys for Ivon Adams, and other people through a door in the back of the courtroom.

Multiple people continuously walked in and out of the courtroom during that hour before Judge David Stephens even made an appearance in the room.

Ivon sat with an emotionless face, handcuffed.

At 10 a.m., Judge Stephens and Ivon’s wife, Alysia Adams, finally entered the courtroom.

Shortly after that, the courtroom learned Ivon’s charges were reduced from 1st to 2nd degree murder in the death of 4-year old Athena Brownfield.

Previous court documents show Alysia claimed her husband beat Athena to death on Christmas Day last year.

However, the DA said a medical examiner’s report found Athena died from “acute pneumonia complicating malnutrition.”

Ivon also faces charges of child neglect for Athena’s sister and unlawful removal of a dead body.

Alysia then stood up, and now, for the first time faces 1st degree murder charges for allegedly “putting Athena Brownfield in a closet and depriving the child of proper nutrition.”

The court paperwork also shows Alysia could face a 2nd degree murder charge instead as evidence is found.

In addition to the murder charge, she faces charges for obstruction of an officer, because she allegedly “provided false information” claiming her husband beat Athena to death.

The DA referenced the medical examiner’s report and said, “that is incorrect….there was no fatal trauma found on the child.”

He also said the report showed Athena did not have any broken bones.

Ivon and Alysia Adams are expected to be formally arraigned in February.

Athena Brownfield’s biological mother, who was also arrested earlier this year for child neglect, has a preliminary hearing January 3.

So now it is who killed her, what she died from and more.

Smh. Both deserve life.

Remembering Athena Brownfield, looking back at one of the biggest homicides of the year

January 10, Cyril police were notified of a 5 year old girl wandering outside of her home by a postal worker. When officers arrived to investigate they discovered the child’s younger sister, Athena, was not at the home.

Both are set to arrive back in court February 21.

And though it’s almost been a full year, there are many who say it’s important Athena Brownfield’s memory is kept alive

I don't understand the downgrade to 2nd degree. If she was being starved. That is a crime. Any death that occurs during a crime is supposed to be automatic 1st degree.

States differ but I'd think at minimum they'd have both as options. That's what happened in ours. It was first degree and the proof was there imo and detective's opinion but toward trial time they added second degree as an option. I think we'd have had first without it and it WAS FIRST DEGREE. But I guess a risk as well.

It's a crap shoot. You know you have it but do have to worry about the jury, what the other side will do or pull, etc. Such b.s. but tis the way it is. We were NOT happy when they added second. On the other hand the defense did NOT LIKE it either. Far more chance of a conviction.

So yeah, why just downgrade and not keep both. Maybe the state doesn't allow that. Ours did/does, at any time, upgrade downgrade, add a choice.

Wow. He'd better be careful if he's dipping his wick, the idiot, she'll have his child next and this woman needs no children. What's wrong with him for starters? it may well be a different kind of relationship than intercourse, again to put it nicely, but enough crudeness, I'm sure all can see the same possibilities. He's an idiot and dam*ed well should have been canned but her? Oh she's real prize. Gag. Baby killer and who knows maybe the guard is a real dumbarse and she'd have had him breaking her out shortly...

I'm getting a picture of absolutely no remorse and clearly no shame of any kind.

Another child who was failed by absolutely everyone.

They'd better be doing something about her, she doesn't need to be having any babies, she already killed someone else's. Allegedly.

A "romantic" relationship lol. Where there goes her Valentine's Day. Poor nasty ALYSIA ADAMS.

RIP Athena. It must have been he77 with yoru other.

You know, I see no reason the jailer's name should be protected. If they had enough to fire him, then it should be outed. He should be charged as well but I doubt there will be such. Scumbag.

Caddo County DA seeks death penalty for caretaker in Athena Brownfield case
The District Attorney in Caddo County, Jason Hicks, seeks the death penalty for Alysia Adams, one of the caretakers charged in 4-year-old Athena Brownfield's death.

Court documents said Alysia confessed that Brownfield was beaten and killed in Cyril on Christmas in 2022 by her husband, Ivon Adams, who had his charge downgraded from first-degree murder to second-degree murder.

Alysia's charges were upgraded from child neglect to first-degree murder at the end of 2023.

A new court document released on Wednesday by District Attorney Hicks said that based on the circumstances that Alysia "knowingly created a great risk of death to more than one person" and "that the death of Athena Brownfield was especially heinous", Alysia should be punished by death.
