Authorities seeking help finding Windsor couple missing since July 1

Avillage of Windsor couple has been missing since July 1 and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office is seeking public help in finding them.

On Wednesday, a family member reported that Bart and Krista Halderson were last seen on July 1 at their home and that they had planned a trip to Langlade County for the weekend and the family has been unable to confirm if they arrived safely, Lt. Brenda Reinen said in a report.

Their personal vehicles are accounted for, so there is no known vehicle to associate with the couple, the Sheriff's Office said.

‘We’ll find them:’ Son of missing Windsor couple says parents were going to lake cabin, but no sign of them

The son of a missing Windsor couple said his parents planned to go with friends to the family's cabin by Sawyer Lake more than three hours away, but says there's no sign of them there and there's been no contact with them for days.

"We'll find them," Chandler Halderson said of his parents, Bart Halderson, 50, and Krista Halderson, 53. "It's better to not listen to the negative theories," he says.

The younger Halderson said his parents planned to travel to their property in the community of Hollister in Langlade County Friday to do some minor repairs on their cabin and carry out general maintenance. He says friends were going with them and driving the group, but says he does not know who their traveling companions were.

Halderson said he received a text from his mother after his parents had apparently left on the trip.

"She got back to me on Sunday, said they made it safely," Halderson said.

Halderson said he contacted authorities after his parents did not return as planned Tuesday, and after a relative went to Hollister and did not find them. Halderson said authorities in Langlade County also checked the property, but found the cabin locked. "The sheriff said it looked like there wasn't anyone home," Halderson said.

Chandler Halderson holds out hope the inability to locate or contact his parents is benign.

"They're maybe at a casino, their phones off, no reception. Maybe they're on a boat, having some fun with their friends," Halderson said.

No evidence so far in the search of the pond. On another note, I'm confused has the mother been found or is she still missing? I read one article that said 2 bodies had been recovered but everything else makes it seem that she has not been found.

Additional, still unidentified remains have been found. Probably Krista, but unconfirmed.
Though, it was only confirmed that Bart's torso was located, IIRC, so theoretically it could be additional remains from him as well.
Ugh, this case is horrible. :(

Chandler Halderson, the Windsor man charged with killing his father, has been bound over for trial.

Dane County court officials during a Wednesday afternoon hearing accepted Halderson’s waiver of a preliminary hearing and ruled there’s enough evidence for the case to move forward. Halderson is facing four charges, including first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, hiding a corpse and providing false information about a missing persons investigation.

A judge has scheduled arraignment for next month for the 23-year-old Dane County man accused of killing his father.

Chandler Halderson waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday while making an in-person appearance in Dane County Circuit Court.

Halderson faces a charge of first-degree intentional homicide in his father’s death.

His mother, Krista Halderson, is still missing.

The son is scheduled to return to court Friday, August 13th.

That is when he will formally enter a plea to the charges.

What to expect in the trial of Chandler Halderson as additional charges loom

What started as a disappearance case of a Windsor couple, Bart and Krista Halderson, has turned into a double homicide case. With more evidence being discovered and possible new charges, a UW-Madison criminal law expert weighs in on how charges could affect how things unfold in the court of law.

From allegedly reporting his parents missing to the police to telling us his version of where they went, 23-year-old Chandler Halderson is being held for the charges of his father’s homicide and could soon be charged with his mother’s too.

“The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Dane County District Attorney’s Office to add a second count of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide, Mutilating a Corpse and Hiding a Corpse to charges against Chandler Halderson,” announced Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett.

What did you do with your mother sicko?. And Wisconsin you can't hold the death penalty over his head.

Wisconsin man charged in parents' killing and dismemberment

A Wisconsin man accused of killing and dismembering his father was charged Wednesday with committing the same crimes against his mother.

Chandler Halderson, 23, now faces two counts each of first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, hiding a corpse, and providing false information on kidnapped or missing persons in the deaths of his parents, Bart and Krista Halderson.

According to prosecutors, the defendant spun a "web of lies" after reporting his parents missing on July 7.

In an amended criminal complaint, prosecutors don't provide a theory as to why Halderson might have killed his parents. But the complaint does include details about the investigation, including statements the Windsor man allegedly made to detectives.

At one point during questioning, a sheriff's detective told Halderson that investigators had new information about the case and asked him if he was feeling suicidal, to which Halderson said he "didn't feel bad about what I did," according to the complaint.

Detectives reviewed Chandler Halderson's Google queries from June 30 through July 8 and found that he had searched for multiple phrases, including "Wisconsin dismembered body found," "Woman's body found in Wisconsin," and "Body found Wisconsin," the complaint states.

At that point, authorities hadn't yet found either of his parents' remains.

Halderson remains in the Dane County Jail on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 1. Crystal Vera, his attorney, declined to comment on the case Wednesday.

Not guilty pleas entered in for new Halderson charges

A 23-year-old Dane County man accused of killing his mother and father stood mute during his latest arraignment Wednesday morning, leading the judge to enter not guilty pleas on his behalf.

He withdrew his demand for a speedy trial Monday, according to court documents.

Officials have still not released the identity of a third portion of remains found on the Halderson couple’s property.

Can we assume there aren't any other people who are reported missing in the area?

Accoring to NamUs, there are 11 people missing in Dane County, Wisconsin, which does include the capital city of Madison. Most recently from 4 years ago. None specifically in Windsor. I imagine they're just waiting on DNA to confirm this is additional remains from one of the two parents.

Ohhhh, I thought the remains were ruled out from being the parents for some reason.

Three search warrants unsealed in Halderson couple’s homicide case

Three search warrants totaling 64 pages in the Halderson homicide case were unsealed late Tuesday.

They are requests for more information that detectives believe could help in their investigation into how and why Bart and Krista Halderson were killed and dismembered in July.

Two search warrants requested information from the company that owns Cash App, a mobile payment service, and cell phone records.

Authorities say Chandler Halderson reported his parents missing from the home they shared in Windsor on July 7.

The 23-year-old was arrested the following day for providing false information on a kidnapping. That same day, authorities found some of Bart’s remains wrapped in a tarp in the town of Cottage Grove. According to these search warrants, Chandler did not use traditional banking methods and used Venmo, another mobile payment service, to purchase a tarp and ice on July 1.

The tarp purchased was similar to the tarp found with Bart’s remains, according to a Dane County detective.

The warrant was issued for Cash App records because detectives said there may be more purchases made that are “likely associated with his parents’ disappearance, death, and disposal.”

The third warrant allowed detectives to get a DNA sample as well as photos of any injuries from Chandler.
