Family offering $20,000 reward for man who disappeared after ‘weird run-in’ with stranger

Katie Wells of Rigby tells EastIdahoNews.com her nephew, Dylan Rounds, was last seen Saturday in Lucin, Utah, on the farm where he is working. Rounds apparently called several family members last Wednesday after having a “weird run-in” with a guy on a gravel road.

“The man was walking down the gravel road barefoot. He flagged Dylan down, who was in his truck. He asked to use Dylan’s phone and was acting erratically. Dylan felt the man was dangerous and may have been high. When he asked Dylan for a ride, (Dylan) did not give him a ride,” Wells explains.

Wells says the man was spotted in Montello, Nevada several days later asking about Dylan and there are reports that the man got a ride to Dylan’s trailer on Saturday.

“We don’t believe anything was ransacked,” Wells explains. “Dylan is missing, his phone is missing and his wallet.”

Noting Dylan’s age, Wells says some people seem to think Dylan ran off, but she suspects foul play.

“He is an old soul, farm boy at heart. All he wants to do is get up and work all day every day. He isn’t interested in partying, he isn’t interested in travel. He never dated in high school. He’s not your typical 19-year-old,” Wells says.

Dylan’s mom, Candice Cooley, lives in Twin Falls and his dad, Justin Rounds, lives in Ucon. They are actively involved in the search and are offering a $20,000 reward to anyone who finds him or knows where he might be.

Equ. rep. says been crazy, crazy case. Apparently LE called her during the live Duty Ron video I gather etc. They are going to be helping and had to have LE on board.
It rubbed me the wrong way (to put it mildly) that Duty Ron couldn't praise Dylan's mother without bad-mouthing another mother of missing child.
Seriously, never heard of/from the man before watching that video, nor do I have any interest to do so again.

I’ve never watched him that I remember. That doesn’t sound good.

From time to time, I tune-in to Gray Hughes- I really like his approach and his primary focus seems to be pin-pointing locations, which is the first thing I look at in any case. Anyway, he's come through again with this case, and so I've learned that Dylan's farm is essentially E/SE of the property where his grain truck/boots were found.
For orientation's sake, the boots were west of that building where the grain truck was parked, and according to the father, the 'last phone ping' radius covers the area of that same property.
Btw, I have a question. How is it that the phone hadn't pinged between the grandma call and that last ping?
Also, I'm a bit confused as to why he'd call the grandmother if it had already started raining...

Yes I haven’t heard that clarified but that’s how I’ve taken it, that there are two trucks. I don’t know about his farm but the farm where I’m at you do need a different kind of a truck to be your grain truck. And you would not use that as a daily truck.
that's what i am thinking. A heavy duty one ton or larger for hauling and a regular half ton or 3/4 ton for everyday driving.

I don't watch him much. I find his shows a bit dry and while I applaud he mostly stays away from speculation and gossip, sometimes he just doesn't have much to discuss either because of just sticking to news and press conferences, etc. or he sticks to getting professionals on to talk generally of autopsies, profiling, etc.

I hadn't watched him in awhile BUT Dylan's mom was on it and so I did. He does get some guests that I suppose trust him because he is former LE and he also backs Texas Equusearch and now has a close relationship with them, etc.

I've still got some minutes left of it. I heard the remark about how missing parents are supposed to act like Dylan's mom and not like some others act, but did they actually name another mother? I didn't catch that if so or it comes in part I haven't seen yet.

He has a fair sized following and I'm not all for him or all against him, just kind of well, I'll watch when the show interests me or the guest and that's about it. I think @SheWhoMustNotBeNamed only posted his video as that is where Dylan's mom could be heard and who she talked to. That's why I took the time to watch this one. Going to try to finish it this morning.

Not our current sheriff, but I’ve had a sheriff in the past tell me things that would probably surprise you. They may be in a large county with a large population, but it doesn’t mean it’s not still with a rural mindset.
and it's also relative to others near on their definition of "large". It looks like probably 90% of their county is on the eastern edge. Dylan is on the very western edge and it's definitely rural out there.

Now I can go either way on him. He is definitely an acquired taste and he often jumps on his viewers sometimes not even understanding their comments first. He is definitely one of a kind. All that said though, I recognize he puts a lot of work in, does a professional job and I also appreciate his mapping and tech skills in cases. I don't watch him much but just like Duty Ron if a show, subject or guest interested me I might then.

Realizing there were two trucks cleared some things up for me that didn't make much sense before.

One thing I will say Duty Ron does is pull together key pictures or videos in his shows. In one picture in news coverage he shared, there was a big truck with a chute in back that I felt was a grain truck with a grain chute although no way to know if it was Dylan's or if that one is the one for a fact. Far bigger than a pickup truck.

I heard her say in an earlier interview that he might have walked the 5 miles and that wasn’t unusual for him. I think that was in the Heavy D video. I wonder if the stories keep changing because for some reason they confirm things along the way.
She said when they first went to find him their thought was not foul play but that he injured himself walking home or was bit by a snake or something happened on that five mile walk. Yeah, probably as things are found out or they discover things, talk to people, etc. it changes what they think/know.

She made it sound as if LE just lets that edge/corner/area go and practices no law enforcement out there. She gave example of clearly stolen vehicles and things sitting out there, etc. She also said the Jim guy had a warrant and LE talked to him etc. in this case but never arrested him until how long after they finally came out and acted on an existing warrant. Then I guess they let the guy out and never told the family he was out, etc. She has a lot of criticism of the county LE. I get her points but some of what she is pointing out would be typical probably most places but then other things she has shared are inexcusable by LE I'd agree, but probably not all that unusual. The sheriff's wife talking for him though and to her, now that is really not wise imo, nor common.

TX Equusearch is getting right on it and sending much. Multiple drones, pilot already on board and more. First thing Twyla from TX EQ wants to do is run images thorugh "locate" program/app.

Dylan's mom mentioned the sheer number of mines and caves out there and also said the mines are almost "bottomless" some of them they run so deep.

I think we already knew this but I will add it here for the thread again--Dylan's pond was drained and searched.

I think @SheWhoMustNotBeNamed only posted his video as that is where Dylan's mom could be heard and who she talked to. That's why I took the time to watch this one.
Oh, yes, I took it that she shared it for the same reason we found it worthy of our time!

Indeed!
Yes, Dylan's personal truck was at his farm, while the grain truck is a 10-wheeler found parked at a property 5 miles away from his farm.
Btw, I wonder about the condition of the grain, I mean, whether it's ok to plant or ruined.

So everyone probably knows these things but I'm just going to put them here as I finish the video and for the thread.

Dylan's phone is under his dad's Verizon account and Verizon will not give them the text transcripts without a subpoena! What is this world coming to? Why should Verizon have to worry about anything if they provide these to the actual account holder??

Somewhere in some news here I saw it or read it that the grain was covered and okay and protected or so it sounded...

I'm sure they did but have to wonder if they checked the load of grain in looking for Dylan. I also wonder if they checked the pile of dirt his boots were found near. Seems a bit too obvious but just thoughts...

So now a Kurt who I gather owns the Saddle Sore told the family Dylan was abducted and was being held. The same Kurt owned the backhoe that was out there. She also said Kurt worked for Dylan sometimes. So he is a bar owner that sometimes works for this young farmer? Not clear on all that but it would show he knows the bar owner I guess fairly well or at least had interaction with him not only at the bar but his equipment was at the farm or at Dylan's...

Just looking at a map, I would have to agree that this is probably exactly what happens out there, especially with the high gas prices. Nearly everybody in that county are on the eastern edge, and when I say "edge', I mean nearly any city of any size there are on the very edge.

Most carriers will not do that without a warrant for it. Can you imagine the requests they would have by everybody if they didn't? All the people wanting to just be plain nosey. That would be a never ending thing, using so many resources.

Holding him for what, exactly? These people don't seem to have much for a ransom or anything. Is he just blathering on, just to say something or what? This dude is bothering me.

So this Kurt's story kept changing, it was all false (the abduction or place he claimed Dylan was being held) and it was him who gave conflicting stories of whether Dylan was in Montello on the 26th or 27th and she said they can't confirm yet which is true. She has no idea why he would do this or lie to them, etc.

It sounds like Elko (sp?) LE and Box Elder LE said two different things.

Also it sounds like this Kurt is why we have conflicting news reports of days in Montello and other things, I gather his stories change and he can't keep them straight...
