Family offering $20,000 reward for man who disappeared after ‘weird run-in’ with stranger

Katie Wells of Rigby tells EastIdahoNews.com her nephew, Dylan Rounds, was last seen Saturday in Lucin, Utah, on the farm where he is working. Rounds apparently called several family members last Wednesday after having a “weird run-in” with a guy on a gravel road.

“The man was walking down the gravel road barefoot. He flagged Dylan down, who was in his truck. He asked to use Dylan’s phone and was acting erratically. Dylan felt the man was dangerous and may have been high. When he asked Dylan for a ride, (Dylan) did not give him a ride,” Wells explains.

Wells says the man was spotted in Montello, Nevada several days later asking about Dylan and there are reports that the man got a ride to Dylan’s trailer on Saturday.

“We don’t believe anything was ransacked,” Wells explains. “Dylan is missing, his phone is missing and his wallet.”

Noting Dylan’s age, Wells says some people seem to think Dylan ran off, but she suspects foul play.

“He is an old soul, farm boy at heart. All he wants to do is get up and work all day every day. He isn’t interested in partying, he isn’t interested in travel. He never dated in high school. He’s not your typical 19-year-old,” Wells says.

Dylan’s mom, Candice Cooley, lives in Twin Falls and his dad, Justin Rounds, lives in Ucon. They are actively involved in the search and are offering a $20,000 reward to anyone who finds him or knows where he might be.

She can confirm the 26th as there is a credit card receipt for lunch in Montello. Can't confirm the 27th, doesn't know.

So this Kurt's story kept changing, it was all false (the abduction or place he claimed Dylan was being held) and it was him who gave conflicting stories of whether Dylan was in Montello on the 26th or 27th and she said they can't confirm yet which is true. She has no idea why he would do this or lie to them, etc.

It sounds like Elko (sp?) LE and Box Elder LE said two different things.

Also it sounds like this Kurt is why we have conflicting news reports of days in Montello and other things, I gather his stories change and he can't keep them straight...
Starting to get a feeling that this Kurt dude could be the one we feared Dylan gave an impression at least of having "something" worth taking.

Okay. I just hit the part where Duty Ron did name the case and mother/parents that don't react "right" I guess. And I agree, it is UNCALLED for and was not necessary. Not impressed by that.

Also, I'm a bit confused as to why he'd call the grandmother if it had already started raining...
I think grandma called him. They keep saying it the other way around but in one interview mom did say grandma called, and Dylan said he couldn't talk cause he had to get the truck in. Because you're right. It wouldn't make sense for him to call her only to say he couldn't talk.

I've still got some minutes left of it. I heard the remark about how missing parents are supposed to act like Dylan's mom and not like some others act, but did they actually name another mother? I didn't catch that if so or it comes in part I haven't seen yet.
He didn't outright say it, but yes, it was pretty easy to figure out. He said her first name.

He has a fair sized following and I'm not all for him or all against him, just kind of well, I'll watch when the show interests me or the guest and that's about it. I think @SheWhoMustNotBeNamed only posted his video as that is where Dylan's mom could be heard and who she talked to. That's why I took the time to watch this one. Going to try to finish it this morning.
Yes. I'm definitely not a fan of this guy, or vloggers in general. Just wanted to get the info about Dylan's case on here.

Btw, I wonder about the condition of the grain, I mean, whether it's ok to plant or ruined.
I think there was something in one of the videos but I can't remember for sure. I want to say that the grain was fine. But I'll have to find it in the video.

Dylan's phone is under his dad's Verizon account and Verizon will not give them the text transcripts without a subpoena! What is this world coming to? Why should Verizon have to worry about anything if they provide these to the actual account holder??
Possibly because the number belongs to an adult?

I'm sure they did but have to wonder if they checked the load of grain in looking for Dylan. I also wonder if they checked the pile of dirt his boots were found near. Seems a bit too obvious but just thoughts...
They've said that they did.

The owner of the bar Dylan was at is also one of the only people officially interviewed by LE. That we know of, at least.
Seems like transactions confirm he was there Thursday. But K's story is the only thing saying he was there Friday. So now they're not sure because of the other things that have transpired.
Why would you tell a story that he was being held? For shits and giggles? To try to get money? Because you're on drugs and you can't keep anything straight anyway?

or IF he did call Grandma, maybe he just needed to ask a quick question, but just didn't have time to chat.

Most carriers will not do that without a warrant for it. Can you imagine the requests they would have by everybody if they didn't? All the people wanting to just be plain nosey. That would be a never ending thing, using so many resources.
Regardless this is a documented missing person so I think in that case it clearly isn't nosiness and red tape shouldn't stop assistance when they have the very account holder's request/permission.

What I am saying is that they do not do it for the account holder at all. Not text transcripts. They do not know what is just nosiness vs real concern without LE intervention. LE is who has to request the warrant. Why the sheriffs dept hasn't done that is the real question.

From time to time, I tune-in to Gray Hughes- I really like his approach and his primary focus seems to be pin-pointing locations, which is the first thing I look at in any case. Anyway, he's come through again with this case, and so I've learned that Dylan's farm is essentially E/SE of the property where his grain truck/boots were found.
For orientation's sake, the boots were west of that building where the grain truck was parked, and according to the father, the 'last phone ping' radius covers the area of that same property.
Btw, I have a question. How is it that the phone hadn't pinged between the grandma call and that last ping?
Also, I'm a bit confused as to why he'd call the grandmother if it had already started raining...
I though she called him and he cut it short because he needed to move the truck? I don't remember where I got that impression, though.

TX Equusearch is getting right on it and sending much. Multiple drones, pilot already on board and more. First thing Twyla from TX EQ wants to do is run images thorugh "locate" program/app.

Dylan's mom mentioned the sheer number of mines and caves out there and also said the mines are almost "bottomless" some of them they run so deep.

I think we already knew this but I will add it here for the thread again--Dylan's pond was drained and searched.
I watch a LOT of YouTubers who investigate old mining caves. I wonder if there are any out there from that area? I'll have to search YouTube later when I have some time.

So everyone probably knows these things but I'm just going to put them here as I finish the video and for the thread.

I've seen this happen before in missing person's cases. It's part of their privacy policy.

Somewhere in some news here I saw it or read it that the grain was covered and okay and protected or so it sounded...

I'm sure they did but have to wonder if they checked the load of grain in looking for Dylan. I also wonder if they checked the pile of dirt his boots were found near. Seems a bit too obvious but just thoughts...
I thought I heard the mom say it was parked in the barn and covered?

So now a Kurt who I gather owns the Saddle Sore told the family Dylan was abducted and was being held. The same Kurt owned the backhoe that was out there. She also said Kurt worked for Dylan sometimes. So he is a bar owner that sometimes works for this young farmer? Not clear on all that but it would show he knows the bar owner I guess fairly well or at least had interaction with him not only at the bar but his equipment was at the farm or at Dylan's...
Watch out. Same kinds of rumors circulated in the Brittanee Drexel case and it was FALSE information. But, same in Holly Bobo's case and those rumors were true! Just keep ourselves in check, is all.

Holding him for what, exactly? These people don't seem to have much for a ransom or anything. Is he just blathering on, just to say something or what? This dude is bothering me.
Yeah I wonder if he was sought out or he "inserted" himself into the investigation and with the family... Why is he lying or confusing things or feeling the need to come up with such things?

Perception is everything and maybe Dylan appeared to have means or his family did. His mom talked like both parents are not in financial need and his dad it sounds like did finance much of Dylan's life (truck in his name, gun, phone, etc.). Maybe he represented that they had money as youth will sometimes do in that they own a lot of acres, he bought some more, etc., etc.

The mother said the tarp had holes in it but that regardless of any tarp, if it's raining, the grain should be indoors. She went on to say that part of the reason for backing in- which is how the grain truck was found- is to protect the load from any leaks from the roof and I imagine through the door. (These are all my words.)

Yes, they've looked through the load of grain and the sand pile.

Odd they'd keep saying he called her. Maybe she called him, he missed the call and called her right back quick saying he couldn't talk or something like that.

Yeah by the end of the video Duty Ron named the case and family. Not necessary I agree. These channels do though get these cases out there and keep attention on them so I will say that. Dylan's mom was probably happy to have the support and again they are partnering pretty heavy with Texas Eq, they are raising money for them and families all of the time on this channel.

I saw something about the grain being okay as well.

By the end of the video I did hear the grain was checked or read it somewhere and you confirm it too so good to know that.

I don't know, even if the phone belongs to an adult, it all is technically his dad's. There is a missing person here and they have the account holder, their customer, needing the info in a timely/quick fashion. Doesn't seem right and seems unnecessary.

Well, Dylan is missing. Maybe this story has parts of it that are true OR he is trying to throw things in another direction or suspicion onto others?

I thought it was said that Kurt's dad is the bar owner...
