Got my Masters degree from here. :(

Killer who stabbed 4 Idaho students to death still at large

The killer — or killers — who stabbed four University of Idaho students to death remained at large Tuesday, prompting many students to leave the campus in the idyllic small town despite police assurances that there was no imminent risk to the community.

So many students had left the scenic tree-lined campus in Moscow, Idaho, by Tuesday that university officials said a candlelight vigil scheduled for the next day would instead be held after the Thanksgiving break.

The students, all close friends, were found dead in an off-campus rental home around noon on Sunday, and officials said they likely were killed several hours earlier. Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt told the Spokane, Washington-based television station KXLY that her preliminary investigation showed the students were stabbed to death. There is no indication that substance use was involved in the deaths, Mabbutt said.

Background on suspect

In college, he was a student investigator for a survey that explored people’s actions, thoughts, and feelings when they committed crimes.

One question in the study, “Why did you choose that victim or target over others?” Another reads, “After committing the crime, what were you thinking and feeling?”

That was pretty creepy about some of the things that he was studying. Many retired detectives said they thought this was a serial killer, but the fact that he knew what he was doing may have just been from educating himself.

Now I have all sorts of “behavioral analysis” questions too. Did he do that study because he was having some intrusive thoughts and wanted to see if he was “normal”? Had he already committed other crimes? Because of his studies did he think he could get away with this and avoid detection?

Those are good questions and I’d like to see them answered, too!

Brian Entin said in a tweet that when he got arrested, he asked if anyone else was arrested. That’s interesting.
The (alleged) perp is so arrogant that he was probably just fking with LE. Laying the groundwork for a defense lawyer to claim that somebody else did it. Look at his mug shot. He can't believe he got caught. After all, no one in the world is as smart as he is./sarc
I have NO sympathy for him. When does the bs of "poor deprived childhood" start?

Idaho murders: Police serve search warrant at Bryan Christopher Kohberger's home in Pullman, WA

Police are serving a search warrant Friday morning at the Washington apartment of Bryan Christopher Kohberger, the man taken into custody earlier in Pennsylvania in connection with the stabbing deaths of four students at the University of Idaho.

The Idaho school is less than 10 miles from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, where Kohberger is listed as PhD student.

Kohberger, 28, was taken into custody by local police and the FBI at 3 a.m. near Scranton, Pennsylvania, a law enforcement source told Fox News Digital.

On the other side of the country, police were searching his apartment hours later.

A neighbor told Fox News Digital that investigators had already arrived by 7:30 a.m. There were at least two unmarked law enforcement vehicles at the scene as police from Washington State University; Moscow, Idaho; and other agencies were executing the warrant.

Bill Thompson, the Latah County prosecutor, was also seen outside the apartment alongside investigators, gearing up with protective booties before heading into the crime scene.

"There was the black pickup and the silver pickup and a couple of cops, and they were taking pictures and stuff, but didn't have any tape up," Randy Smith, a 58-year-old Moscow resident who works at WSU, told Fox News Digital.

He said he knew right away it had to do with the murders because the unmarked cars had Idaho license plates.

Moscow and Pullman are neighboring towns on the Idaho-Washington border, and each hosts a university in their respective states.

The second-story apartment police searched Friday is just 10 miles away from where the students were stabbed to death on Nov. 13.

  • The man arrested is Bryan Christopher Kohberger, 28, according to the criminal complaint. He was taken into custody Friday in Monroe County, the document states.
  • Authorities narrowed their focus to Kohberger after tracing his ownership of a white Hyundai Elantra seen in the area of the killings, according to two law enforcement sources briefed on the investigation.
  • Kohberger’s DNA has also been matched to genetic material recovered at the off-campus house where the students were stabbed to death, according to the sources.
  • Kohberger is a graduate student at a nearby college, studying at Washington State University’s Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, according a now-removed university graduate directory. The original link listing Kohberger’s name was seen by CNN earlier Friday. WSU has not responded to CNN’s request for comment.
  • A CNN team filmed law enforcement outside of a WSU graduate residence that Moscow police say is connected to Kohbergher. WSU police are searching the apartment at the request of Moscow police, Moscow police confirm to CNN.
  • Authorities learned the suspect had left the area and went to Pennsylvania, the sources said.
  • An FBI surveillance team from the Philadelphia field office has been tracking him for four days in the area where he was arrested, according to the sources.
  • While he was being watched, investigators from the Moscow Police Department, the Idaho State Police homicide bureau and the FBI worked with prosecutors to develop sufficient probable cause to obtain the warrant. Once the arrest warrant was issued, the Pennsylvania State Police and the FBI made the arrest.
  • Records show Kohberger was arraigned Friday morning in Pennsylvania and he has a court hearing on extradition Jan. 3.

Prosecutor speaking.
Pending case now in court. Have to live with restrictions surrounding pre-trial publicity. But we will share what we can.
Probable Cause Affidavit is sealed until he is back in Idaho. DO expect to release it at that time.
Had an initial appearance in PA. Held without bond. Tuesday will be his next appearance with public defender. He can either waive extradition or fight it, in which extradition processes will be initiated through governor's office. Might take some time depending on what happens.
Asking for people who know the suspect to come forward and continue to report tips and information.
