Missing Endangered Alert Issued for 13-Year-Old Wisconsin Boy Who Took Family Van and Gun

Wisconsin authorities have issued a Missing Endangered Person Alert for a 13-year-old boy who has now been missing for more than 48 hours.

James Yoblonski took the family fan early Monday morning and drove away from his Reedsburg home, as CrimeOnline reported. The van was later found on US 12 near Devil’s Lake State Park, and search crews found his cell phone and a campsite with some of his belongings nearby.

But they’ve not found the boy.

“It’s a very wooded terrain. The woods [are] very thick, there’s rock ledges, there’s cliffs,” Sauk Sheriff Chip Meister told WKOW. “You could be six, eight feet from another deputy and you can’t see that deputy — so that’s how thick it is.”

Meister said more than 40 officials are participating in the search along with both a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft from the Department of Natural Resources.

William Yoblonski, the boy’s father, told WKOW that his son “is not someone who would run away” and called the situation “dire.” He said he’s not concerned that the teen took the van — or, apparently, a gun that is missing from the home.

Rainy weather hampered ground crews searching for the boy on Tuesday, and the search ended at dark but was set to resume Wednesday morning.

I don't understand it. Maybe they think they know what happened and don't need the public to help? He is only thirteen... I really hope they do know more, and that they only APPEAR to be pretty clueless.
You worded it so aptly, better than me, and that's exactly it. He is 13. I don't care even if some kids are older than their years nowadays they still don't have a fully developed brain or life experience.
This all seems so nonchalant and unworried about by LE.

Of course in many a case it seems that way and then here it comes that they have been on it the whole time but I get NO sense of that here. But there have been others I've felt that way about and they were on it all along but I think there needs to be a balance not just to the public of advising you are still on it or maybe sharing what you are doing AT LEAST or some of it but my God for families, I can't even imagine.

That's assuming of course family is not responsible, in many cases they are.

He is a child who has been missing for months o end now.

I can't imagine being a loved one worried about it and the lack of answers. Is a 13 year old so hard to find, track down, left no trace with today's tech, cameras and all which he was on PRIOR to disappearing....He can't drive legally, work, earn a paycheck, rent an apartment, etc. SO where is he....??

Been into the link trying like three times and I've yet to see the video of him leaving or find it. I'm exhausted so it could be just my missing something right in front of my face but I don't think so.

This one is so troubling and hard to try to come to a solid thought on.

This CHILD only completed 7th grade and hadn't even started 8th yet??! He is a kid. Not even a high schooler or even close.

I don't suspect the dad or those at home in this one but I guess to point things out it should be noted if I saw it all and picked up on all, we see him leaving the home but we do not see nor know anyone else is not in the van that he isn't or couldn't be joining.

I'm not sure I knew he hit his father's business TWICE, I knew he went there once for sure.

He took a lot from dad/family, father's cell phone, gun, van. Why the cell? Was it so dad couldn't call for help or did he use it to calll someone or such in which case cops having it would tell them what he used it for, said on it, who he called...

Was he getting at his father? Taking all of his things...? It just doesn't make sense, none of it does.

So the confirm again the campsite found in the beginning had stuff of his including dad's phone...

For the cop to say they see no signs of criminal activity or foul play I guess I can understand but this is a 7th grader who outsmarted cops and agencies?? COME ON.

I don't care if he is the smartest kid on the planet, there would be a trace, a trail, an electronic trail even if it was BEFORE he went missing by meeting someone on a webiste, having communications, texts, emails, something over various apps.

No one can convince me this child is alive on his own and living off the grid in the woods without help or with someone else. It is winter in Wisconsin. And while my parts have had a mild one it was still winter and only until now. Now we are in deep freeze.

Not sure what the answer is here. I guess it could even end up suicide but seems a bit odd he'd take dad's phone for that. The gun and van, maybe, yes.

I think there has to be something tech here and communication with someone and I think this case hasn't had near the attention it needs and his face out there on national news and someone taking it up as a pet case, etc.

What I do know is this is a missing SEVENTH grader and he needs to be found. I cannot even imagine the despair I'd go through as a parent in something like this.

Gathering held in Wis. Dells to bring attention to Vue and Yoblonski

It’s been over two weeks since Two Rivers boy Elijah Vue was last seen, and more than nine months since James Yoblonski went missing near Devil’s Lake State Park.

Saturday evening, a gathering was held to honor both of the missing boys.

Many of the attendees at Saturday’s event say they will be searching the Baraboo area for the two boys on Sunday.

Nine months later, James Yoblonski is still missing

Nine months after Baraboo teen James Yoblonski went missing near Devil’s Lake State Park, investigators hope their billboard leads to more tips.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department and Crime Stoppers put up a large sign near the North Shore Road entrance to Devil’s Lake in Baraboo this fall on County DL and West 136 across the street from Tumbled Rock Brewery.

The billboard has the words “Have you seen me?” written on them next to a picture of James.

This week marked nine months since the 14-year-old disappeared.

James’ father William Yoblonski is frustrated with investigators and said they are not looking hard enough. He also said he’s upset because they have not returned his phone or other personal belongings they obtained during the investigation.

It sure does seem like they are and have searched a whole lot harder for Eli than they ever did for this boy. Maybe there's a reason for that, I don't know. Maybe they know something and keep it close to the vest but it's been crickets from LE in this boy's case and that just creates its own problems with what the public thinks. Maybe they think dad is involved so they are on a one path route. Maybe they think he was snatched by or met someone they don't want to tip off. Who knows. MAYBE they don't care and are doing little. That's the problem with total silence.

Father holds onto hope as missing Sauk County boy's search hits 10th month

In a small community in Sauk County, Wis., a father’s anguish deepens as the search for his missing 14-year-old son enters its 10th month.

Bill Yoblanski’s heartache is palpable as he continues to seek answers about the whereabouts of his beloved James.

Bill Yoblanski, whose sleepless nights are filled with worry, expressed his pain, saying, “It’s 2 to 3 hours of sleep. There’s not enough.”

Sauk County investigators are actively pursuing leads, although they do not suspect any criminal activity in James Yoblanski’s disappearance. Nonetheless, Bill Yoblanski’s concerns grew when investigators found some of his son’s belongings near a campsite in the area, prompting fears about his safety.

“You can actually see the highway from where that camp was,” he said, contemplating the possibilities.

Despite the challenges, Bill Yoblanski said he refuses to give up hope. He has consulted psychics and registered James Yoblanski on the National Missing and Exploited Children’s Registry, determined to leave no stone unturned in the search for his son.

With 40 children in Wisconsin going missing since James Yoblanski’s disappearance, Bill Yoblanski laments the lack of attention given to such cases.

“James, we want you home. Just come home please,” Bill Yoblanski pleaded, his voice breaking with emotion. “It’s harder and harder every day. Not having you home with your sister and brothers. And we, we miss you so much.”

Bill Yoblanski is offering a $10,000 reward for any information about his son’s whereabouts and urges the public to remain vigilant, particularly in the area between Rio and Sparta, Wisconsin, along Route 71, where a psychic believes his son may potentially be found.

I see absolutely NO reason the amount of searching that goes on for Eli shouldn't be going on for this boy. I am NOT sayng it shouldn't for Eli, I AM saying where IS IT for this one.

13 does that sound old to people these days or something? A 13 year old off on his own is still likely if not initially in the clutches of someone or will end up there. Think about your kids or self at that age I don't care how much more adult they may think they are these days or we do, and that kid not being home with no idea where someone so young and vulnerable is.

I THINK THIS STINKS. Cops suspect no foul play well then you can't find a 13 year OLD if there IS NONE and are not searching nor are any orgs or others?? I guess it is POSSIBLE they know or think something we don't know or that they suspect dad or some relative in some other town or city or state but then by now you would have surveilled etc. and WENT AND GOT HIM. LE I mean! I don't know that I believe they are doing sh*t!!

I think anyone knows how commonly I go towards a parent as the culprit. Well I don't know here but have no leaning or reason to whatsoever to his father. HE's the only one giving a **** and if the culprit you'd kind of just pretend to give up because cops can't find any leads and so people forget but he has NOT DONE that. He WANTS HELP.

The differences in the two cases are astounding for attention or lack of it.

And if someone would say no idea where to look well there isn't in Eli either. Searchers have been in cities and hour or hours away and other places, none making a bit of sense to me. I'd almos wonder if some search org isn't part of it that sure brings in the donations when they do that. No idea. I just KNOW I see a stark difference in the help and support in both cases and for that matter, LE. Pizzas me off royally.

Three families continue search for answers after their loved ones went missing

Three southern Wisconsin families are still searching for answers after their loved ones went missing.

James Yoblonski June 2023

Roughly 100 miles away in Sauk County, then 13-year-old James Yoblonski can be seen on home security cameras leaving his family's home in Reedsburg in the middle of the night.

The short clips are from the family's home security system and the timestamp on the video reads June 12, 2023 at about one in the morning.

In the first clip shared with 27 News, the door can be heard closing before James appears in frame.

His dad Bill Yoblonski said James was wearing a backpack and carrying two bags.

The next video shows James getting into the family's van and pulling out of the driveway.

The van was found a few hours later on the side of highway 12 near Baraboo.

Investigators believe James left it there before going into the woods.

A makeshift campsite was found roughly 100 yards to the west of Highway 12.

Clothing, bags, hygiene items and a cell phone, James had taken with him, were all found at the campsite.

"At first we were still thinking he was in the woods, but then after the dogs didn't hit on any scents, I literally told the sheriff he's not in there," Bill Yoblonski told 27 News.

Bill said he's frustrated with the Sauk County Sheriff's Department and with where he feels the investigation is at.

"Push them to start doing their job, open the case fully again and start doing a better job," he added.

Bill said he just wants his son home.

"No matter what I do, he's on my mind all the time," he added.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sauk County Sheriff's Office at 608-355-4495 or Sauk County Crime Stoppers @ 1-888-TIP-SAUK (1-888-847-7285).

Bill said people can also reach out to him via email. His email is williamyoblonski@yahoo.com

YES where ARE they on these cases yet ELI has tons of searches for months on end everywhere that doesn't even make sense (NOT that he shouldn't, they all SHOULD). Where is the focus, where is the attention and WTF if anything are they DOING? LE I MEAN!! I've seen NO EFFORT ON THIS ONE and I hardly know the names of the other two mentioned here, not sure I do in fact! Am I the only one who will yell about this here???

One year later, still no sign of missing Reedsburg teen James Yoblonski

Wednesday marks one year since 13-year-old James Yoblonski went missing.

The boy was last seen at his Sauk County home the day before investigators believe he drove the family’s vehicle to Baraboo and left it abandoned by the Bluffs. One year later, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office and Yoblonski’s father, Bill, said they have no substantial leads.

Bill Yoblonski has not always seen eye to eye with Sauk County Sheriff’s Office investigators, claiming they spent too much time looking in the Baraboo Bluffs when he thinks someone kidnapped his son and made it look like he was still in the woods. Now, Bill said he has a better relationship with detectives who say they’re casting a wider net and still have people trying to find James.

Bill believes his son is still alive and out there somewhere. He had a message to share with his son.

“We miss you so much and it’s so hard not having you around,” Bill Yoblonski said.

Bill Yoblonski and the community will hold a gathering for James on Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. at Badger Ammunition. This is the parking lot on Highway 12 near where the search party’s headquarters were last year. Anyone is welcome and attendees are asked to wear green clothing, because it is James’ favorite color.

Bill is offering a $10,000 reward for anyone who provides information that helps deputies locate and bring James home. He also created a GoFundMe to raise more reward money.

Not impressed with LE here. Who knows though maybe they have a ton of info from investigation and are working had on it. Contrast it to the 12 year old missing from Georgia though with the feds, the state GBI, and more involved. This is a KID here too, where is it all? BOTH may be runaways. Both MAY have been meeting someone. BOTH may have been a part of something bigger or ignorant of something bigger. We have one said to be interested in the survivalist thing. The look at Maddie Soto, turning 13 she says when she does she is going to go live in the woods. Not saying there are any similarities in the cases or connections but there IS an age thing and stark differences in how each was handled...And I could go find more, those are just off the top of my head.

James Yoblonski's family praises new Missing Child Alert that could have helped their son

As Wisconsin’s new Missing Child Alert system expands the criteria for sending mass alerts for missing children, a Sauk County father expressed his wish that the system had been available when his own son, James Yoblonski, went missing more than a year ago.

James Yoblonski did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert at the time of his disappearance. Yet his dad remains hopeful that the new alert system will save other children who would not meet the Amber Alert criteria.

“I’m sure it’ll help, but they should have done something different when James went missing,” Bill Yoblonski said.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the investigation into James Yoblonski’s disappearance is ongoing. While detectives do not believe there is any criminal activity involved, they have not ruled out the possibility.

The Missing Child Alert system is seen as a potential game changer for families whose missing children do not qualify for an Amber Alert.

The system offers new “person at risk” classifications, designed to increase the chances of finding missing children like James Yoblonski.

I reread a few posts, not from the beginning but last page or two. I rewatched the video of him leaving.

I don't see how LE can think they know what happened to quit searching or DOING anything.

Only if they have some trace of him after that campsite somewhere else can they assume anything in my opinion.

To me his dad is clear. I don't often say that but he is on video, he went to his dad's workplace twice (why?), and I just; have no suspicions about this dad, siblings or anyone at least at THAT home.

A campsite was found with his things, all pretty obvious he left, the van found, etc.

I don't recall if he took his dad's phone or dad had it in the van, but if he took it I guess the reason would be so his dad could not call for help too fast if he realized he left right away and before he did what he was planning to do (got to the business, wait for a ride or whatever happened here).

I entertain suicide and they just haven't found him but he PACKED clothing and things. It was also said he took food stuffs from the home at one point, not SURE if we know that to be true, can't recall.

Why the gun though? If not suicide. Was he meeting someone, having trouble with someone HE intended to kill and it did not go as planned?

He was said to have been interested in survivalist stuff but there is no way a 13 year old survived in that woods over the winter with no further sign of him imo.

You also don't generally do survivalist stuff with other people, isn't it more of a loner activity with most?

I don't think these cops have ANY theory or know a thing. I can't help it. They can't be looking at the dad or anyone at home imo. They can't know he did not suicide unless they have further trace of him and somehow know he was seen somewhere else getting in a vehicle with someone or something. No further sightings have even been HINTED at.

And IF they thought they knew who he was with they would HAVE HIM BY NOW.

Back in a May post of the few I reread, I think the dad said they need to be urged to reopen this case fully. It darned well should still be opened fully and the same searches going on as do for Eli and others.

He would not have used his dad's phone to call anyone because they found the phone at the campsite I believe I just saw. I also rewatched the video. He'd know they'd be able to find out who he talked to if he did.

So something was arranged imo and I think the dad is right. It still COULD be suicide but he went packed and such...

SOMEONE picked him up imo, nothing really makes sense but I agree with the dad on that as most likely. And whoever has him or killed him could be as well is a criminal.

ANd LE sure seems like they are just sitting on their butts on it, looking at him as most used to look at any runaway. I have given the benefit of the doubt even saying in other cases I have often felt o wondered if work was going on only to find out later it was all along.

I don't see that here, I don't feel it and I don't see how they could possibly think they have the answer and aren't sharing it but just haven't went and got him!

This maddens me!! I can't even imagine his dad and siblings and what they feel.

They don't know sh*t and aren't doing sh*t imo. Probably having a meeting every now and again abtout this and other cases. Anything new? No. Okay. We'll ask again next time.

So anyone recall or k now why two visits to dad's workplace? I know he took a gun, what was the other reason? Were we even told. I'm not sure I even knew of two until later on in the last page or two.

WHY a gun? Suicide of course but doesn't seem to fit. Would you even care if you had more clothes even if you wanted to see one more day before doing such? I don't think so most likely.

Meeting someone he suspected could be bad or knew was and he intended to use it on the person but the person took him, killed him and he could be anywhere and/or his body could.

For doing survivalist, to shoot animals and eat, etc. and protect oneself. But not a scent or a further sign of him in the woods AND they quit searching.

What other reason could their possibly be? To pawn it and get money? Doubtful imo.

A 13 year old cannot get a job, they cannot rent a hotel room, etc. He clearly can steal a car and maybe stole another but then there would be a report of one and maybe there is but it was further away and they haven't connected it. But then what? Again there's nothing he can do to survive on his own imo easily.

I kind of am thinking this out as I type it. And so I come to again someone has or had him. There was a planned meeting at this spot, planned pick up, but he took a gun to it...

He alternatively could have had a phone his dad did not know about, it is FAR from uncommon with teens, I'd go so far as to say very common. THAT they can buy and maybe should not be able to. They can, can't they? Pretty positive.

So has LE even looked for tower dump or whatever they do in this area. I mean it's woods, maybe traffic on the highway but what ARE they doing?

I think though it was most likely something arranged. But that gun bothers me. Was someone harassing him, threatening him and he went to meet and planned on taking care of the problem. Or was he just 13 and thought he might need it for the hours he was at this campsite waiting, to protect himself?

Many cases get little attention so certainly not saying this is the only one but this one has so LITTLE attention, that also maddens me. By the media, by the public, but then what new is there to report, but it also never did.

THAT LE needs to at least do the frustrating thing of coming out regularly and saying at least generally what they are doing if not giving specifics and that they are still working on it hard! They need to do that with the family REGULARLY at minimum. Ours did. It is a very NECESSARY thing. And if dad IS solidly CLEAR then even give a bit or two to him, ours also did that.

Yeah, they can't even do that much. I don't think they are doing anything! I generally try to give the benefit of the doubt. And I do't think they know sh*t.

It says in something above on this page 40 kids have went missing in WI since James. So? They were not all in THAT COUNTY.

This isn't new. I am always outraged when I see this one and SADLY I go a long time without seeing such myself because I only keep up these days by following new posts each day or try to.

I don't see a single possibility that they know what happened here and that's why searches stopped and all else.

I just also reread the van was near Baraboo... How close I wonder. It may be in the thread somewhere but I just skimmed some of the last couple of pages.

One may as well call Baraboo part of the Wisconsin Dells. Imo. A well known tourist trap but all the other things come along with it that most don't realize, crime, prostitution, etc. So many people NEVER see such goes on in any tourist area, they only see the cover. Tons of people in and out and this was June and definitely there would be. I've not been to Baraboo itself but I've been to the Dells more than once. So has Mel.

The Dells itself has several exits. I'd have to look, I don't think its population is overly large but it is total touristville. Water parks galore, mini golf, go karts, restaurants, overboard every inch tourist trappings. Yet there is also Lake Delton and the river and the Wisconsin Ducks, that's boats I believe on the river that give rides. Never did that so might not have that 100 percent accurate. I think there are even acrobats or skier shows on the water. Even in the winter when the water parks can't be open several hotels boast indoor slides and lazy rivers and more. We went in the winter once on a FULL total family trip. My mom and dad, each of us kids, all of our kids. One was missing, all the rest were present. A huge group.

And then I've been twice at least in the summer when my kids were younger on the way back from my brotther's (passed now) who lived in southern Wisconsin with a couple of my sisters and their kids to one of the outdoor parks.

In a way it is a shame because it like I said has lakes, the river, beautiful countryside but it's all been descended on or most only see all the tourist crap. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun time.

And I'm sidetracking. Just trying to give a sense of where James was near.

Baraboo I think is known for some attractions and a circus show I am pretty sure is one.

Okay. I googled. Baraboo is 13 miles from the Dells. They may tag along pulling tourists but there is even a back way as there always is so for locals, like James, easy enough and welll aware of probably. And again it would be BUSY in June. So that's a thought is all. If he hiked in to either city and connected with someone or met some fate.

I dont' know about anyone else and thank God there was no internet when I grew up and at least MOST of the years my kids did, but I was bored in summer at 13. We lived rurally, you can't drive yet but you're at that age you don't want to be home doing nothing day after day. As a child you love the rural but at that age it changes quite a bit. You want to be at the movies, you want to be in town, you want "something".

Yeah, I guess it is my long post of the night.

Now I don't think he took a gun because he planned to go to a water park or anything. I'm just trying to talk and come up with things and describe the area. MOST know of the Dells but maybe not everyone in every state.

He 1) went off and suicided but they haven't found him yet quit searching.
2) met someone in a vehicle either friend or foe and ended up with that person.
3) walked into town, one of them, he's a survivalist maybe he went to the Dells but Baraboo, either, the entire area is kind of touristy gathering business from the Dells. Met with foul play or was meeting someone there, and again it would be BUSY.
4) He also could have stolen another car but I find that unlikely.

The cops repeatedly say when they do say something which is almost never, no reason to suspect foul play. But will add haven't ruled anything out. Typical.

But they say more often no reason to suspect foul play.

I disagree. Even if he went willingly, whoever he is with is a criminal if that's the case and he's still alive.

Rant over. I was really just trying to think it through with the LITTLE known.

I wonder if ego would do it. Does LE know how it looks that a 13 year old can outsmart them? IF he even knew what he was doing or went willingly, either way, come on SOLVE THIS.

Prayers to the dad and family.

And I hope they have thoroughly vented and checked the other side, all relatives and even are watching such.

Sorry for the lengthy. Know I have said it before and will again. Ones that need the attention that I do start following well, this one needs some, not that it's national news or anything but I'll give it when reminded of it.
