LIBBY GERMAN & ABBY WILLIAMS: Indiana vs. Richard Allen for 2017 murder of two Delphi girls *GUILTY*

On February 14, 2017, the bodies of Abigail Williams and Liberty German were discovered near the Monon High Bridge Trail, which is part of the Delphi Historic Trails in Delphi, Indiana, United States, after the young girls had disappeared from the same trail the previous day. The murders have received significant media coverage because a photo and audio recording of an individual believed to be the girls' murderer was found on German's smartphone. Despite the audio and video recordings of the suspect that have been circulated and the more than 26,000 tips that police have received, no arrest in the case has been made.[1][2][3]

Police have not publicly stated nor released details of how the girls were murdered.[6] As early as February 15, 2017, Indiana State Police began circulating a still image of an individual reportedly seen on the Monon High Bridge Trail near where the two friends were slain; the grainy photograph appearing to capture a Caucasian male, with hands in pockets, walking on the rail bridge, head down, toward the girls.[4] A few days later, the person in the photograph was named the prime suspect in the double-homicide.[5]

On February 22, law enforcement released an audio recording where the voice of the assailant,[7] though in some degree muffled, is heard to say, "Down the hill." It was at this news conference that officials credited the source of the audio and imagery to German's smartphone, and, further, regarded her as a hero for having had the uncanny foresight and fortitude to record the exchange in secret. Police indicated that additional evidence from the phone had been secured, but that they did not release it so as not to "compromise any future trial." By this time, the reward offered in the case was set at $41,000.[5]

Allen, who will most certainly appeal, will be back in court for sentencing at 9 a.m. on Dec. 20. Allen faces 90 to 130 years in prison. If he loses his appeal, he's likely to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
So where will he be in prison from now on? Back to Wabash in gen pop? Or will he still need to be in solitary for his protection?

I hate to be the one to make the grand proclamation, but he's no worse than half the general population in any prison. He is NOW a convicted criminal and I'm fairly certain he will be in gen pop with everyone else.

Since the safekeeping order was vacated, he will probably remain in Cass County until his December 20 sentencing.

Allen left the courthouse in handcuffs. The safekeeping order that led to Allen being held at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility has not been lifted, so Allen may still be held there until his sentencing hearing on Dec. 20, 2024.

Allen faces a sentence between 45 and 130 years. He was convicted on four counts, but he will be sentenced on only one per girl because he cannot be sentenced twice for the same act. The sentence for murder is between 45 and 65 years. If Allen's sentences run consecutively, that could mean a sentence of up to 130 years. If the sentences run concurrently, that could be as low as 45 years.

The advisory sentencing for judges to consider for murder starts at 55 years, and then the judge can lower the sentence or raise it, depending on mitigating and aggravating factors.

Since shortly after Richard Allen was charged, almost everyone involved in the case has been under a gag order. They have not been able to speak to the media. That gag order will lift after Allen is sentenced.

Well my firstii post is going to be that I know the verdict of course. Someone was nice enough to tell me and contact me plus I tried to time it right and not too soon after 3 IN time and headed for a bathroom break and checked in the stall lol.

Watched some of Lauren at "my" lunch hour which was I think 5 p.m. here. She got into the courtroom of course and saw it all and was sharing some of the details. Haven't finished it yet. I see Tom did a show but I know he wasn't there, will probably watch anyhow.

I am SO HAPPY for the girls' family this is over finally and WITH the RIGHT result imo. It was said this was a good jury and they were!

It's going to be really strange, I doubt I'll be seeing much Tom on Delphi before too long other than probably a few things and then sentencing. It will quiet here I'd imagine, probably already has. I am going to go back up and read but since I left before verdict was in, I wanted to say I know of it so if responses to older posts land here, I DO already know.

A few details--The girl's families were crying and so was Kathy Allen and seated between his mom and sister, they had to try to console her but wasn't working, had to help her stand when they jury was allowed to leave first as all rise for the jury.

RA's family was allowed to go next after the jurors will well clear and away.

Then the girl's families if they wished to and Anna and Becky shared a huge very long hug with tears.

She could not see RA except from the back which was probably true of almost everyone I'd imagine but she coudn't anyhow. Saw no sign of serious emotion and when Gull told him what comes next and such he was responding to her

I feel I felt this one but of course it could have ended up any which way but ever since they did what they did Saturday, that was one huge part. But it also has all always been there if one just looks and clears the b.s. away. And of course, a big part too is the voice. And more. All there. He placed himself there and impossible to remove himself. Lots more that doesn't need to be reiterated.

Kudos to this jury for an outstanding job. I also did not think that was a long time deliberating at all. It's about part for the course even less perhaps.

Jmo of course. It's a GOOD DAY! Nothing of course will bring these girls back but there's been justice.

I suppose Gull won't camera the sentencing either...

The one I saw had RA coming down the courtroom steps on the right and BG on the left. RA hands in pockets and legs bent the same, height, knees and hips at the same point. Looked like twins.
Okay. One day I hope I run into it. Gray had one where he took a pic of RA, I believe the one we've (most of us anyhow) seen from some hike with Kathy at some point and put it next to BG walking on the bridge and while I wouldn't say twins with his one, it was startling. The ways, the height, the features, the body...

I wonder if it was just one single part that they were hung up on.
I differe re all these remarks of it taking a long time. That's not a long time, jmo, and there was not a single indication they were ever hung up on anything. I don't think they were but were confirming things after discussing, but who knows. That's not a long time deliberating though. It was a long trial and 61 witnesses. One day of "deliberations" was not even deliberations, it was watching videos, etc. so actual deliberation time is even lower than 18 hours.

Anyhow, I just differ and jmo.

I guess we are used to in some cases same day verdicts, and it does happen but I never expected that in this case myself.

I'm sure we will likely find out.

Much should be lifted now, the gag order, and the jury members should be able to talk if they do wish and so on. And perhaps one day before too many months we will be able to hear the confessions, and other things, etc. I suppose it may wait until after sentencing but I wouldn't count on it necessarily. There's no risk any longer of it affecting the trial, etc.

Anyhow, I just did not think that was a long deliberation time at all. Many expect instant these days I guess as there are some that are pretty close to that quick, three to seven hours maybe. I thought about it as they were able to discuss before being handed the case IF all were together but they didn't have a ton of down time either, heading to court six days a week...

I suspect we will hear some things. We weren't in the courtroom and I haven't heard from anyone yet but I would imagine Gull told them before they left they were free to talk to media or anyone they wished now and if they did not desire, they did not have to, and so on. That's the norm anyhow.

Just to kind of catch up with more than one thing at once here, this was to address some who thinks it was a long time, I didn't, but of course if you're waiting, it sure seems like it and for the families I bet it sure did. I also never saw a single hint that they were hung or any reason to think it. Just my opinion though.

So to make it a kind of combined post, on a couple of subjects, Lauren said something today, and let's put it more as I woulnd't say rumor because she knows what it involves, but there are a few people who knew RA that have stayed quiet and I gather when things settle, and no gag order, and this is all over, there may be a story or two from people who knew him coming out, that's the best I could make of it. The person was glad he was convicted even though she knew him (or he) personally, and she mentioned I believe there are a few like that...

I was at lunch, not a lot of time but thought it a bit interesting as to they have asked it not to be shared throughout and are not ready yet but have I guess some things to say.

And who knows, could be a coworker, a family member, a close gf of Kathy's. No idea. The person was there but not on camera and don't talking on camera. Anyhow, I'm not saying it isn't even just a nothing burger but one does have to keep in mind everyone in this case including those that didn't have to, have pretty much played it safe and stayed silent. Except of course the D and their client more or less.

Did think it an interesting little tidbit.

Anyhow again, just responding to one post where some thought deliberations took a long time rather than to all. And jumping off from it a bit.

Should catch me up fairly quickly. Doesn't look like there's a ton of posts since this now has ended. I can see why too, it's over and we couldn't even watch the verdict given nor hear any of it.

It's truly and really over after so many years. Wow. Hasn't really hit me yet. Was aware earlier today but no time for it to really hit.

Of course there will be appeals, there always are.

Anyhow, going to catch up reading the rest and then go watch something or even do a bit of both before catching up with all.

I think that looking at all the videos again took nearly a day. So glad it is over for the families. If there is an appeal, what could it possibly be on, seeing as he confessed?
He'll appeal anything he can, like they all do. It doesn't mean each appeal will have "legs" or even be looked at. He's not a DR inmate or on he automatic appeal thing if he had received the DP.

And while he may try it, he's up sh*t creek trying for inadequate counsel because he was very fully informed when he CHOSE them himself, late in the game after they were taken off. Imo.

They will probably appeal all decisions, not being allowed a third party defense and you name it.

You know I had the thought today, instead of appealing, maybe he will now confess and do it in a proper forum? I mean his fear allegedly was losing his family and not seeing them again say in heaven and that couldn't happen if he did not confess, etc. Well he's now lost them at least in the sense of if they think contact was hard before and hard to go "in" and see him well, he's going off to prison for the rest of his life. So he isn't going to change much on how much he can see them for real, but if he wants to see them in heaven, now maybe that they won't be able to try to tell him he didn't do this and quit saying that, maybe they will quit that, and he needs to do a formal confession, to be clear with God AND to make them realize for once and for all that he did. He tried more than once and many think his break was over the fact they rejected his confession and and wouldn't hear him. I'm not putting it all correctly but we will see what happens I guess... If he's not a liar in his head he can't see them again in heaven without being clean and true, etc...

Or are they going to still keep saying, no dear, you are wrong, you'd didn't, even after a jury says he did and he is BG.

Just a thought...

He wanted to apologize to the families, said it more than once. Does he want to put the families through years of appeals? I guess again it depends if he is a manipulator or meant that...

So where will he be in prison from now on? Back to Wabash in gen pop? Or will he still need to be in solitary for his protection?
They go to I forget what it's called, at least in most states, a part of the DOC where they stay for a bit, all gets looked at, and they determine where he belongs based on a number of facts. It's murder and heinous murder so I'd think he'd be in a max security prison. They also do NOT always get taken from jail right away. We were warned about this in ours and thank goodness or we'd have I guarantee you been upset to find this out. Even after sentencing they don't go right off generally, it all has to be arranged.

It happened in the Daybells too, again forget what it's called. Someone else hear probablly knows, I will know it when I hear it, just can't think of it.

They are evaluated, and more and then the place eventually chosen. It's a given imo like with Chad in ID and RA in IN, the crimes and convictions will definitely be max security. Well Chad is even DP.

As far as solitary, not for his protection imo, he will go in the area with other child peds and murderers most probably. They keep them separated allegedly not in solitary but with others of the same ilk because yes, they can be a type others go after. Child murderers, pedos, etc.

All just an educated guess but that's how it generally works. It's like a central processing unit but that's not right lol. I wish I could think of it.

So no one knows where he will be sent to. Imo. If there was only one max security, it'd be pretty easy to guess maybe but most states have more than one. Also where there is room can play in I believe...

Jmo. I may get further down the page and see someone already answered this stuff. If so, sorry, just catching up.
