Madeline Soto missing: Florida mom begs for daughter's safe return home

A mother in Orange County is begging for help locating her missing daughter.

Madeline ‘Maddie’ Soto was last seen on Monday, one day after she and her family celebrated her 13th birthday. Maddie’s mother, Jenn Soto, said surveillance video shows Maddie hanging out in a church parking lot on February 26 after being dropped off for school, but she never made it inside.

"I’m trying to hope for the best, but I’m scared for her," said Jenn Soto. "I want her to be okay; I want her to be safe… I don’t want her to come back harmed. I just want her back – whatever that means, I just want her back."

Jenn Soto said sheriff’s deputies are using K9s and a piece of Maddie’s clothing to try to track her scent near Town Loop Boulevard.

According to Jenn Soto, Maddie had never run away before. She said the teen had forgotten her cell phone at home that morning, but that was normal.

As of Wednesday morning, a variety of search teams are out searching for Maddie.

"(Jennifer Soto) stated while they were together they… (Jennifer, Stephen and Madeline)… would either all sleep in the same bed or (Madeline) would sleep with her when Stephan was not there," one statement reads.

When asked if it was normal that Stephan and Madeline would sleep together without her being there, she said yes, statements say.

"(Jennifer Soto) stated if she needed a good night sleep due to her anxiety, she would ask them (Stephan and Madeline) to sleep in a different bedroom."

Another statement reads, "Stephan stated (Madeline) always needed human contact when going to sleep. Stephan referred to it as "snuggling."

‘Abnormal’ security video, Google Drive led to Stephan Sterns’ arrest in Madeline Soto case, documents show

Newly released discovery documents give insight into how law enforcement officers came to arrest Stephan Sterns as part of the investigation into the disappearance and death of 13-year-old Madeline Soto in February.

The state attorney’s office on Thursday released several redacted reports, as well as new audio from an interview detectives conducted with Sterns on Feb. 27, the day Orange County sheriff’s detectives began their investigation.

According to a case supplemental report, a detective interviewed Sterns at the residence he shared with Soto and Soto’s mother. Corresponding audio from the interview shows Sterns was asked exactly where he dropped Soto off, and where he went afterward. Over the course of the conversation, detectives question some details, which appears to lead to Sterns changing his story. You can listen to the interview below.

After the interview, the detective checked out video from the complex’s security gate. The report says the detective saw Sterns’ vehicle leaving with a female wearing a green sweater in the front passenger seat.

“The female was slumped over to her left, which is an abnormal way for a person to be seated in a vehicle,” the report said.

That led detectives to secure the home so they could get a search warrant, the report states.

While that search warrant was executed, detectives also executed a search warrant on Sterns’ phone. Sterns had told the detectives that he had accidentally done a factory reset on the device, but detectives did find images saved to a Google Drive. Once they got access to the drive, the report says they found over 1,700 photo and video files depicting graphic images of a naked child, and also of the child performing sex acts.

The report said the Google Drive had files going back to at least 2019.

The report also details an interview with a redacted witness, who talked to the detectives about the relationship between Sterns, Soto and Soto’s mother, where detectives showed the witness one of the pictures from the Google Drive. The witness became “visibly upset.”

Never did finish what I was watching. Heck of a lot to do yet and back to work tomorrow. But I heard not this kind of detail but that he would sleep with mom or her or something like that it just touched on before I had to quit watching.

THIS is NOT OKAY and I can see NO excuse here for MOM.

Is there not a COUCH in the place???????????? Even then does not mean she'd be safe BUT IN THE SAME BED WITHOUT MOM? Hey even the three together is WEIRD.

1700 and mom is CLUELESS? This child lived a nightmare!!

I lit on this this morning but never got to finish watching.

IF she was killed at home in the morning which is pretty much what is being said and then was PUT in his car slumped over in the passenger seat, we have real problems here with mom. Short of saying she was sleeping BUT she said she saw daughter getting dressed. Oh REALLY? So she got dressed, you went back to bed and then he killed her that morning, carried her out, etc.? That's a stretch to say the least.

If she is helping them (LE) that is one thing but if she knew or knew for years or hid anything here, get all you can out of her and then ARREST HER ALREADY!!

I have kept my mind open re mom but it is really getting to be a stretch and bad enough if you are stupid and let a man sleep with an 8 year old but once becoming a teen, etc. what the heck are you THINKING?!! NO one is THAT STUPID. This was not her FATHER. And even if it was, that wouldn't be normal EITHER.

I don't think it has been posted here but yesterday at lunch I ran into his full interview by LE. I was on Grizzly who isn't my fave these days but nothing so wrong that I won't ever watch her but by the time I listened to her reading and lead up to it, break was over. But that video of his interview is out there. I saw none of it, got home, ended up on REad, long day, tired and back to work shortly here. This would be the interview early in that has never been seen until now by LE and him. Not murder at that point but his changing stories as to taking her to school, etc. and then what they found on his phone So if anyone can find the interview by itself and not Grizzly (otherwise I can share that later though) I think it should be here.

I think she even linked it below her video so that one maybe can be linked?

I am going to watch it just did not get the time.

This poor girl.

And on the other hand the lead in by Grizzly had things too that were of interest. Some is in various articles I'm sure, not sure what all is here and don't know all myself, haven't had time to look at all here or out there.

No time right now to keep up with about any case but this one has a LOT out there right now. I can about pick and choose. There is his full LE interview, and more including what mom said to being asked a few things. I mostly do YT as most know but a ton on there are "news". I have still not hear the complete LE questioning interview but this has plenty of it. I am NOT always a Law and Crime or Angenette fan but with this one I will give it. If there are cases right now I'd like to see more in here on, this is certainly one. Even those of us who disagree or agree case to case. There eis SOO much to tear apart and discuss here and almost how many have a show about this out there right now and have heard the full LE interview. This one has a ton of it and honestly I don't always like them but it was very well put together, Anyone else has time or gets a chance, a LOT out there right now even for LE full interview and more.

And they never lied to him by the way just were good cop and good cop.

WORTH watching? @Guess Who do not think you have followed. interested in another? We don't always agree but interested on your take. If you have time.

And if anyone else does, there is a lot new out there but I dn't have the time to catch up with all, wanted to see the entire interview but I do think this has a ton and it was good. I started watching a few at work on short breaks but no time to finish but did finish this one tonight. Man are there things that could be discussed. Aside from the sick POS this child was dealing with from the age of six. His lies for one when they already knew better. MOM for another. And LE never baited him with lies whatsoever. They were just nicely nice and needing info and let him provide it... And HE LIED.

I'll give Angenette and L & C a nod on this one. Not my usual.

I can't keep up but just saying his full interview with LE is out there and quite a bit more.

Madeline Soto: Bodycam videos show Stephan Sterns’ 1st interactions with deputies

Channel 9 on Monday obtained body-worn camera videos of Orange County deputies’ first interaction with Stephan Sterns after Madeline Soto’s disappearance.

The videos -- from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office -- were recorded the evening when Sterns and Madeline Soto’s mother, Jenn Soto, reported the 13-year-old missing.

Video shows the pair in the lobby of the tax office where Jenn Soto worked as they described to detectives what the girl was last seen wearing.

Jennifer Soto appears worried in the videos.

Sterns is seen standing, not making much eye contact with detectives.

He is seen crossing his arms and providing investigators with details when asked.

Sterns told them that he dropped Madeline Soto off at a church near her school because she was embarrassed by the condition of his car.

Detectives later described that story as false.

“She was walking in that direction,” Sterns could be heard saying. “She was looking through her backpack. I thought she was looking for headphones. She went in that direction. Looked the same as any other morning.”

Other video shows dogs searching for her scent in the church parking lot without any luck.

The Docket got all this body cam. Started watching it this morn but had no time to finish. Have it on now. He gets TONS of documents in all cases and lets everyone to my knowledge use and access them. I guess the news may have obtained on their own but I wouldn't count on it.

So mom worked in tax office and not at Disney...? New to me. I mean tax season is busy and this was February but that job meant she had to miss her daughter's birthday party on a SUNDAY? and work late into the evening? Or does she hold two jobs?

I think that's the office where Jennifer's mother worked.

Yeah it was shortly after I said that that such was confirmed for me. I started watching The Docket and he said it was grandma's office which I suspected but wasn't sure. The news article above STATES it was Jenn Soto's office/work place. Docket had it right, news did not and put out false and confusing info. No big surprise there.

I have a few things to say re what the bodycams showed but no time this morning. Nothing huge but a few observations and thoughts. Hoped to get to it last night or this morning but not going to happen. Hope to get back to it later tonight.

What were any of your takeaways?

Not much really, except that I heard one of the officers say that Madeline was last seen at 7am and I'm wondering where that came from.

He swaying which actually looked like dancing I found interesting. People say it is a self soothing thing but she wasn't doing it until she said the school Chromebook wasn't trackable and her family said it was and that's when the swaying started. Not saying it means anything about that but the timing was interesting.

Then there was the different descriptions of clothing. He said, I can recall exactly but black and blue pants or some such, I took to mean maybe leggings if two colors and she came in with it was black shorts. I don't care what one thinks, this is odd. HE is the one that took her to school and didn't Jen never see her that morning? Or DID she? I know you think or thought the officers got it wrong about her claiming to have seen her at 8 getting dressed. No way to be sure about whether she said that or not so that's just opinion on any of our parts but I tend to believe officers. However, we also heard she was seen in the car not alive on video coming BACK to the apartment and recent news seems to make it clear it was on LEAVING so there has been incorrect info unless it was both.

There's nothing huge but there are these tiny things that can be huge in it such as the difference in clothing claimed. Her swaying and the timing. Also WHERE did grandma go??? And it was her office. She was there in the very beginning of these body cam things but never did I see her again, just all the rest of the family.

And then there is the redacted blacked out video just with the voice. My guess would be that is grandma...

Oh there's tidbits of interest for sure.

I did not pay a lot of attention to the dogs and cops part of the body cam stuff because we know she was never taken to the church area or to school, I focused more on the parts with them in it and the cop talking to them and then going in and out and back to talk to them, etc.

It would be interesting to know what she was found in per pants or shorts. And with saying that my heart sinks as I am talking like that about a child that suffered and had no childhood and now no life and was since little at the mercy of this evil.

Mom sure isn't overly worried or so it seems yet she even says no she isn't with friend and wouldn't be and she checked, etc. but she's calm and Madelin's not home. A minor thing is mom spelled her name and there is no E at the end. And every news source AND this thread title has an E at the end. It was news to me as well. The Docket replayed all the body cams several times and t was a long watch for me and I really wasn't interested in a lot of it, like the dogs and that stuff as again we know she was never there but more was noticed each time I saw it. The clips of them were brief but unless mom messed up her own name and spelling of the daughter she named, she was Madelin. And so I am going to use that from now on.

Who did I watch that pointed out the swaying kind of thing in a few other cases and all were found guilty or to be involved... The adopted mom did it in the West boys in a oft watched news talk... And now that I think of that, adopted dad did the arms crossed and various things just like Stephan did here. Let mom talk but then came in many a time... Trying to lead. Etc. I think Watts was also mentioned but I didn't watch that one from its start, however, I saw something where these comparisons were made and it may well have been Docket man himself talking of these things and comparisons.

Jenn said Madelin had nothing trackable on her, left the phone at home, had no Apple watch etc. on her and the only tech thing she would have had was her school laptop or Chromebook. Interesting that all her seated family spoke up at that time that that well could be trackable and then she started swaying. I mean that would be a GOOD things no? To a mom?

Now if an officer said I hate to say this but I think your daughter may have been abducted and prepare yourself for the worst ma'am, I don't know how to break this to you, THAT would be where self soothing comes in.

I still have objectivity in this one as to mom. HOWEVER it is very difficult to buy into the more we learn. The admissions alone that daughter and he slept together when she needed to be alone or was not home is over the top not naive and in denial, it is ENABLING and allowing. No one is that freaking stupid. This child was 13 at the end of he life and this had been going on for YEARS.

I didn't have time the other night or morning (can't recall which) to touch on some thoughts from watching these body cams which don't show much many would pick up on who haven't followed but they do. And then there is the part of watching him and how she lets him speak about her daughter and her spot on her face or whatever and come in and answer instead of her... She almost never looks at him nor do they interact in these brief snippets of body cam stuff. Very unlike later with news where it is a comforting arm on or around him, etc.

I don't know. Just some observations and thoughts. I have felt grandma from the start knows or has an opinion of him and could not understand why here daughter had him back around Madelin or had him taking her to school, etc. I still feel that way. I think her family may feel the same or suspect same... Or some of them.

Interesting that they mention the laptop probably being trackable and she brought it up and was the ONLY one who said it wasn't and that item was FOUND in the complex dumpster and at that point she started swaying....

Not much really, except that I heard one of the officers say that Madeline was last seen at 7am and I'm wondering where that came from.
I don't think I caught that but I focused more on the family. Maybe that's last independent sighting or sec cam? The one they were talking with, some was really hard to hear, that they blacked out or redacted, they were very focused on what I could catch on school times or normal times to go to school and when they would have went, etc...We know when he CLAIMED, I can't recall do we know what TIME is shown by the camera we now know caught him leaving with a dead Madelin...?

You're mistaken about Jen spelling Madeline's name without an e at the end...

At the beginning of the second video in post #369, the officer asks another officer why the call wasn't a code 3 when it first came out. Interesting...
Anyway, he then informs the other officer that Madeline was last seen that morning at about 7. (I think he's the same officer who spoke with Jen in the first video.)

You're mistaken about Jen spelling Madeline's name without an e at the end...
Well it doesn't really matter as to facts of her murder or I'd go back and find it but I listened to that body cam part several times and she spells it with no E. It isn't important enough to go back and find. You watched the same thing no? If you want to link it and have time I will relisten. I'm not going back over the one I watched which was a two hour show of talk and playing such several times versus the news article above who said the office they were in was where Jenn worked which was totally wrong.

Again, what difference does it make? BUT I think mom or press should get it right. OR I heard it wrong in listening several times.

It isn't important enough for me to go find again. SPent a ton of time on LISK yesterday and get few days off.

So she is Madelin or Madeline and either way she was murdered by mom's bf and had a mom who at minimum failed her and put her into bed with him.
