Nevada woman disappears from Walmart, brother says video shows masked man forcing himself into her car

The brother of a missing Nevada woman, who disappeared Saturday from a Walmart parking lot, said chilling surveillance video shows a man force his way into her car before driving away.

Naomi Irion, 18, of Fernley in Northern Nevada, was last seen about 5 a.m. at the store’s parking lot, according to a Wednesday statement from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Irion’s four-door sedan was later found in an industrial area in Fernley, and a suspect believed to be driving a dark, newer model Chevrolet High Country pickup may know her whereabouts, police said.

Irion’s older brother, Casey Valley, 32, told NBC News on Thursday that surveillance footage from the Walmart shows a man wearing a face mask and a hoodie walk to the parking lot from the direction of a dirt lot, circle his sister’s car and then force his way in.

“He circled around the parking lot maybe to make sure there were no witnesses,” Valley said. “He came up behind the car and forced his way into the driver’s side of the car. Maybe her door was unlocked. He either said or did something to make her move to the passenger seat and then he drove her car away into an unknown direction.”

Representatives with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office could not be immediately reached Thursday to corroborate Valley’s account. Valley also told NBC affiliate KRNV in Reno about the video.

The sheriff’s office is expected to hold a press conference about the case later Thursday.

Authorities renew plea for help to find missing Nevada woman

Family members and sheriff’s officials in Nevada renewed pleas Tuesday for help finding an 18-year-old woman last seen before a man wearing a mask and hooded sweatshirt was shown on surveillance video getting into her car outside a Walmart store 10 days ago.

Lyon County sheriff’s Detective Erik Kusmerz told reporters in Fernley that Naomi Christine Irion’s car was found, but sheriff’s officials and the FBI haven’t detected any signal from her cellphone since shortly after they believe she was abducted in the small town east of Reno before dawn March 12.

Kusmerz said Irion was active on social media and her cellphone until 5:23 a.m., a minute before the man entered her car. The phone has not been found and is no longer active, the investigator said.

“We believe there’s some information out there that hasn’t reached us yet,” Lyon County Sheriff Frank Hunewill said.

Kusmerz did not disclose what investigators found in Irion’s car, but said authorities are looking for a man he called a suspect, along with a distinctively large vehicle — a dark late-model half-ton Chevrolet 2500 High Country pickup truck.

“If you know somebody who drives this vehicle or had access to this vehicle during this (predawn March 12) timeframe … we’re asking you to come forward and speak with us,” the detective said. He did not immediately say how investigators believe the pickup is connected with the case.

Family members including Irion’s mother, Diana Irion, said a candlelight vigil was planned Tuesday evening.

“Please save my daughter and bring her home,” Diana Irion said. “We need this word to be spread nationwide."
I still say this truck would not be hard for them to obtain more info on so something is up with it. It is distinctive as they say, large and a late model. There can't be too many of them I wouldn't think, at least in that general area or did a perp WANT the truck noticed...

I have to think they have a plate number.

I have to think they have a plate number.
If they do, why wouldn't they release the number so people can be on the lookout for it? Unless they believe it was removed.

That's the thing. I don't get it. Either the plate was wrong or removed or they don't know who was driving it, it was stolen or something. Otherwise I don't know what the heck to think. Could it be it went straight into a garage and they have an idea but they can't get a warrant as it had a wrong plate so just not enough to go for the person or truck? I don't know. Just saying something is missing. And something doesn't sit right in this one. And video is talked about as more there than we have seen yet...

This case reminds me of at least two others in not every single way but a few ways but it is a combo of a feeling/instinct along with that they have a lot of video AND a truck and yet no arrest, etc. nor release of all info they may have on this vehicle and video if the goal is to find her as quickly as possible...

Not wording it right because I don't want to go there until knowing more...

So I'm guessing it was that pickup. The second vehicle or it sounds like a second one with witnesses is interesting, especially coming right before an arrest...

I pray they find her. At least there is movement and a "who" is now in custody.

New Photos Released as The Search For Naomi Irion Continues

Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the search and investigation into the suspicious disappearance of 18 year old Naomi Irion of Fernley. Naomi was last seen in the parking lot of WalMart in Fernley March 12th at about 5am. The investigation now indicates that the suspect may be driving a dark pickup truck.

That’s Lyon County Undersheriff’s Ed Kilgore who says, forensic evidence continues to lead Lyon County Investigators to believe Naomi’s disappearance is suspicious in nature and that the driver of the that truck has a direct connection to her disappearance and her current whereabouts.

Fallon man arrested on kidnapping charges in Naomi Irion case
A 41-year-old Fallon man was taken into custody Friday evening for the kidnapping of 18-year-old Naomi Irion.

Troy Driver was taken into custody at a home off Alcorn Road by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office just before 5 p.m. on March 25, 13 days after Irion disappeared from the Walmart parking lot in Fernley.

Police also impounded a pickup truck they believed to be involved in the case. The truck is being searched for evidence.

As of Friday night, authorities continue to search for Irion. A second community search is still on for Saturday morning in Fernley, according to Irion’s family members.

Driver is being held on kidnapping charges. Police have not released any information about whether Driver knew Irion prior to the incident but her family members believe her kidnapping was planned.

Where is she Troy?! I hate to say, But her body. I get enraged when these killers won't give up the information of where their victims are. Their last bit of control of a childish game of "I know something you don't know". By any means necessary to get the information from them should be allowed. It's all about their rights. Not the victims or the families.

WM is notorious for having either cameras that don't work, never worked or such low quality, they are of no good, especially the ones in the parking lot.
That may be so but there are tons of Walmarts with tons of cameras and I've seen more cases solved or the first leads provided by Walmart cameras than any. It does make sense they are more concerned with indoor cameras or shoplifting purposes. I'd also put it down to each one's management, etc. I can believe the one near me doesn't take care of theirs as they take care of little but I'd bet the one by my daughter is just the opposite and all works beautifully. I'd lay a wager on it.

Troy Driver, Naomi Irion Kidnapping Suspect: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Troy Driver is the Nevada construction supervisor accused in the kidnapping of Naomi Irion, an 18-year-old woman who disappeared from a parking lot in Fernley.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office announced that it had arrested Driver, 41, from Fallon, Nevada, in a March 25, 2022, press release.

He is being held on charges of kidnapping. “We have located the truck in question and it has been impounded and taken into evidence,” sheriff’s officials said in a news release.

1. Irion Is Still Missing; Troy Edward Driver Has a Violent Criminal History in California

The old newspaper articles, accessed through Newspapers.com, say that the victim in Ukiah, California, was a “reputed Willits drug dealer” named Paul Rodriguez. He was shot to death in the driveway of the Driver family home by his 18 year old girlfriend, according to a 1998 article in the Ukiah Daily Journal. Troy Edward Driver and another teen “stuffed Rodrigeuz’s body into the trunk of his car and dumped it off a highway. The article says that Driver’s sister, Sharla Renee Driver Cassidy, also referred to as Sharla Driver, was also convicted in connection with the slaying.

His sister was accused of overhearing “the trio planning to kill Rodriguez” and drove the car used to lure him to his death. She also admitted to driving a getaway car in a series of convenience store robberies that Troy Driver said he committed to try to get money to pay his sister’s airfare to Italy, the newspaper article reports.

A 1997 article in the Ukiah Daily Journal says that Rodriguez was a methamphetamine dealer, and that Troy Edward Driver also pleaded guilty to three charges of second-degree robbery of a Ukiah Circle K convenience store and Chevron service stations, as well as a break-in of a Willits Coast-to-Coast hardware store. He admitted using a firearm, and was to be sentenced to 15 years for those crimes and his involvement in Rodriguez’s death.

Mendocino County court records show he was sentenced to 15 years for three robbery with a firearm charges and a burglary charge.

2. Officials Previously Released Surveillance Video of the Suspect

The Sheriff’s Department debunked social media posts that Irion was found in an abandoned home in Reno, Nevada, saying they are false.

3. Driver Has Worked in Construction

A LinkedIn page shows that Driver has worked in construction and for a mining company as a safety coordinator and project supervisor. He’s also lived in Elko, Nevada.

NyNews4 reported that Driver was taken into custody at a home off Alcorn Road in Fernley, Nevada, and officials impounded his truck.

4. A Break in the Case Came When Authorities Shared Photos of a Suspect Vehicle

A break in the case came when authorities shared photos of a suspect vehicle.

On March 24, sheriff’s officials wrote that they had identified the vehicle and occupant(s) that appear in a Walmart video minutes before Naomi was abducted.

5. Naomi’s Mother Says There Was ‘Suspicious Activity or Violence’ in Her Car

Diane Irion said that there was evidence of “suspicious activity or violence inside the car.” She added: “Hopefully law enforcement can find something, anything, that will distinguish this person, this monster, from other people. What kind of person does that? Takes an 18-year-old girl. Someone’s daughter, sister, from their family, hurts them. What kind of monster does that? It’s evil. It’s wrong.”

Not that there always has to be a motive, but I'm failing to see a motive here. We have no indication they knew each other and while we don't know a lot, it sounds as if she would live a mostly low risk lifestyle. Sounded like she was dependable, family and friend oriented and other than she was 18, female and in a parked car at a Walmart, I don't see the reason for this and even that isn't necessarily so risky. She did it daily, it was a public lot in a smaller city/town, she was in contact with friends while sitting there. The shuttle was even due imminently.

Why her and for what reason? Elsewhere at the start of this, people elsewhere leaned towards trafficking but I don't know. It doesn't seem like the most likely spot or way to do it. I mean look how fast with cameras and all he was caught.

Of course he is an ex-con so who knows and maybe not the brightest.

I pray they find her alive but it doesn't seem likely as they have evidence of a crime in the vehicle.

With all the festivities going on in my life lately, I missed that there had been an arrest in this case.

My aunt, when she was alive, lived in Fallon and I still have cousins there. Back in the day, Fallon used to boast about how if any criminals dared move into town, they would tar and feather them and throw them out. Times have certainly changed. Career criminals can live wherever they want.

I hope they find this young girl. What a sad sad case. Can’t even go shopping anymore.
