Nevada woman disappears from Walmart, brother says video shows masked man forcing himself into her car

The brother of a missing Nevada woman, who disappeared Saturday from a Walmart parking lot, said chilling surveillance video shows a man force his way into her car before driving away.

Naomi Irion, 18, of Fernley in Northern Nevada, was last seen about 5 a.m. at the store’s parking lot, according to a Wednesday statement from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Irion’s four-door sedan was later found in an industrial area in Fernley, and a suspect believed to be driving a dark, newer model Chevrolet High Country pickup may know her whereabouts, police said.

Irion’s older brother, Casey Valley, 32, told NBC News on Thursday that surveillance footage from the Walmart shows a man wearing a face mask and a hoodie walk to the parking lot from the direction of a dirt lot, circle his sister’s car and then force his way in.

“He circled around the parking lot maybe to make sure there were no witnesses,” Valley said. “He came up behind the car and forced his way into the driver’s side of the car. Maybe her door was unlocked. He either said or did something to make her move to the passenger seat and then he drove her car away into an unknown direction.”

Representatives with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office could not be immediately reached Thursday to corroborate Valley’s account. Valley also told NBC affiliate KRNV in Reno about the video.

The sheriff’s office is expected to hold a press conference about the case later Thursday.

With all the festivities going on in my life lately, I missed that there had been an arrest in this case.

My aunt, when she was alive, lived in Fallon and I still have cousins there. Back in the day, Fallon used to boast about how if any criminals dared move into town, they would tar and feather them and throw them out. Times have certainly changed. Career criminals can live wherever they want.

I hope they find this young girl. What a sad sad case. Can’t even go shopping anymore.
Just FYI, she wasn't shopping. She was waiting for her transport to her job, parking in the same spot she always did every morning. I think she did go into the store, but I don't think that had much to do with this though.

I was referring to being in a shopping center parking lot. :)

Judge Lori Matheus set Driver's bail at $750,000. Should he make bail, he won't be released until after GPS monitoring bracelet is set, the judge said.

Driver, who is represented by attorney Mario Walther, is not to contact the family of Irion, and a stay-out-of-Fernley order will be made, the judge said.

He will be placed on enhanced supervision and it will require daily check-ins.

The "stay out of town" order is a bit unique. Stay away from her family and enhanced supervision. All good. It does make me wonder though if she or a family member knew this man. I haven't read anything that indicates that but I haven't been able to watch/read everything either.

It could also mean that the judge wasn't real thrilled about bail, but they didn't have enough to hold him on a no bail.

So it seems she was found based on a tip. Makes me wonder who... Another article/info"

I was hoping for a miracle as I always do, but I was pretty sure that he had killed her.

The tip may have come from the perp . That happens sometimes where the media says that it’s a tip and then later on we find out it was really a confession of sorts. Sometimes the perps even say they know where the body is because they know some other dude who did it.

A man wearing a hoodie - believed to be Driver - was filmed approaching her vehicle after circling the area.

It's unclear if she was in the store at the time he broke into the vehicle or if she was in the car, but footage shows the pair driving off with the suspect in the driver's seat.

The pair then drove out of the lot with the man behind the wheel. Her abandoned car was found on March 15 near a paint manufacturing facility in an industrial park along Interstate 80 less than a mile away from the Walmart store.

Valley said earlier his sister usually catches a bus from the Walmart lot to work at a Reno-area Panasonic facility. He contacted family members and authorities after she failed to arrive at work and didn't return home that weekend.

Irion's family claimed the teen went on a date with an unknown man the day before she vanished and had previously complained about being sexually harassed at work.

Panasonic knew about the harassment and had handled it 'internally,' according to her brother.

Before authorities announced that her body had been identified, Valley told reporters Wednesday that the family appreciated the support from the community and praised efforts by sheriff's deputies and federal agents to find his sister.

'Lyon County and the FBI are working very hard,' he said. 'I wish there was more and everybody does.'

But following the court hearing Wednesday night, investigators with the Churchill County and Lyon County sheriff's departments announced they had found Irion's body at a gravesite in an undisclosed area of Churchill County.

I had forgotten how close Fallon was to Fernley because I haven't gone that route in decades and the only reason I did drive that way would be an alternate route to Reno from Bishop (where Karlie Guse went missing) to avoid bad weather in the Sierras. They are only 27 miles from each other!

You know what? Highway 6 is the route to Fallon from Bishop. Could he have been involved with Karlie Guse's disappearance? I've often wondered if her walking around the highway could have been a perfect opportunity for a perp to happen to drive by..........

Per Google, the store doesn't open until 6 a.m. I looked it up awhile back and this all happened at 5:30 ish or thereabouts. Maybe 5:40...

It sounds like most likely the date was cleared as was anyone around the harassment complaint at work... From what I gather anyhow...

How long has he been out of prison? I figured it out a few days ago but forget... Should check if even possible he did Karlie... I think he did 12 of a 15 year sentence in prison if I recall...

It's hard to tell from this article: Troy Driver's lengthy criminal record, which includes jail time for murder, robbery, and violence, has been revealed in connection with the discovery of Naomi Irion's body. - Techno Trenz

But, if he was convicted in 1997 and got 12 years, he was out by 2009.
